Legacy Day {3/3}
With a content sigh, you stir the drink in your hand. You never felt so lazy after running ALL DAY, or... Half? Barely even noon-ish?
"This drink is amazing Lambert!" You take another sip, the (sour/sweet/bitter) taste welcomed on your tongue.
"I-I'm glad you like it, I'm surprised you've never been to Hocus Latte before. Almost everyone in school goes here.." He sips his drink quietly as his sheep sleep on the comfy rugs.
The fluffballs must of been tuckered out from running around all day..
"Hah... I needed this, honestly. I feel like I've been-" You pause, a frown on your face. Becoming silent as you gaze down at the liquid in your cup. Taking a deep breath, you take a big gulp of liquid.
"Well, whatever! But yeah, I'm.. I just.. Moved? Here." You peice together your sentance.
"Oh? Where-?"
"FAR- long and FAR-" You say between sips.
"Right. Um, I'm sorry you had to buy that fabric, all because of my sheep too.."
"It's fine, but... It'd be nice to do something with it. And that was half of my money too..." You mumble, taking a sip of your drink once again.
"Oh! There's a place I know that could help you if you'd like."
"Hm? Where?" You ask, leaning closer to his. Cheek pressed up against his shoulder as you gaze at his... Phone-Mirror? Weird, like that tablet Blondie hand. Lambert voicew becomes more quieter, rosy cheeks becoming a darker shade.
"Fairy Seamstress should be able to help, she has a shop in the middle of Book-End. Maybe she can buy them off of you?" He mumbles.
"Yeah.. That seems like the best bet, sides' I was supposed to find some outfit for tonight." You sip- "Wha-? Damn, all gone? Seriously? Augh.." You grumble.
" "Tonight"?"
"Oh.. Yeah. I got a letter from the school about that... Destiny.. Thing?"
"You mean Legacy Day?"
"Heheh... That." You try to tilt your lips up, voice wavering.
"B-But.. You're supposed to inherit that outfit, from your parents. Not buy one? Right..?" He asks, mainly to himself.
Noticing your fuck up, you try to play it off.
"Oh-! Uh.. Yeah-! So, where is that shop again?" You lean closer to the phone-thing, nervous. "Middle of Book-End? Yeah, cool-beans." You talk fast, crushing the paper cup as you stand. "Oh- wait-"
Patting down your clothes you find a pen, writing down your number on the smushed side. Handing him the thin cup. "Thanks again Lambert! See you tonight~!" Exaggeratingly blowing a kiss at him, "Good night, everybody!"
You rush out the door.
"Bah...?" One of his sheep's grunt in confusion, glancing at his owner. The young mans face frozen in a confused, bashful expression as he toys with his pink crook.
-
"Oh! You're quite an interesting character!" Mrs. Goodfairy giggled, typing down the total amount into the register. A bright smile on her face as her blue glittery wings twitching slightly, other fairies of different sizes fly about in the background.
"Thanks! And sorry for the super short notice..." "Oh it's quite alright! I've handled my fair shares of quick orders." She winked, small bits of blue glitter fluttering around after the action. You tell yourself it's not snowflakes, no... You can't eat glitter!
"You remind me of someone, with all that energy!" The older woman giggles as she watches your face morph into curiosity.
"My son is always fluttering around the shop, though he's getting ready for Legacy Day. Ah, how time flies..."
"Me too! ...Uh... My outfit is... At my house." You lie through your teeth as the Mrs. Goodfairy nods. "I think I have a photo somewhere of us! Just in case you see him, dearie."
Pulling out a small wand from under the counter. Pointing to a specific framed photo hanging on a wall as it levitates to her.
Gaping at the action, you watch the frame fall into your hands. "See? That's my little boy, oh he looked so sweet with his wittle' glasses. Now he wears contacts, still makes him look dashing." She smiled, winking at you.
Eyeing the photo, the two stood together, shopping bags in hand. The two looked quite similar to one another, same smile too! Even if his wings were more a silver blue than hers.
Outfit placed in a dark duffle-bag, you pay for the order. Thankful that she didn't pry too much on what the outfit was for.
Glancing at the clock, you realized you still needed a few things. Beaming, you wave goodbye, bags hanging of your arms as you run out the door.
"Familiar indeed." She chuckled.
After a quick run to the apartment, then back on the road to Book End, you made it back to the school grounds.
It was finally nightfall, bits of your jewelry clink together as you adjust your hair.
The school felt a bit creepy at night...
Distant murmurs lead you to the open area. People seated away from another as they gaze at the stage our chat with their friends. It felt... Suffocating, tense even.
Sucking in a deep breath, you release it out into the warm air. Hoping to find one of your friends in the sea of students.
"(Y/N)!"
A voice shouts out your name, causing you to turn around.
Turning around you see Apple and Briar heading your way. Walking over to close the distance, Briar throws an arm around you, the faint smell of roses lingering on him as he pulls you close in a side hug. "Once upon a hi, Rosebud!" "Sup' Camellia." You tease back, he laughs happily at your quip, letting go.
"Hello again, (Y/N)." Apple greets sweetly, his tinted red lips turning into a smile. "You look lovely."
"Oh? This old thing?" You pose, lifting an arm sassily, earning giggles from them. "Thanks, thought I'd represent."
A choker decorating your neck, a small car key placed in the middle. Letting your hand lower, charms of different items rested on a silver chain on your wrist. An apple charm placed with a raven feather charm, a tea-cup, a rose, a bear, a frog, little sheep and much more charms. All different yet stood out against your skin.
"Spelltastic!" Apple grins, straightening up, "I.. Mean, wonderful."
"Don't mind him, he's just as excited." Briar explains, "He's trying to be, "royally-ready" for today." You nodded, watching Apple adjust his crown, soon dusting off his cape. "You can't blame me, it's a big night. I'll finally sign the Book of Destiny, then my happily ever after will be secured!"
"Yeah, I know... You've been saying that since we got here." Briar mumbled, rolling his eyes with a smile.
"Well... Good on you, King of Apples." You nodded as Apple's face flushed at your poor attempt at your "royal bow".
"Anway, you wanna sit with us?"
"Well..."
"Yes (Y/N), please sit with us." Apple chimed in, leaning close.
Before you can answer, the Headmaster walks onto the stage. Tapping the microphone as he clears his throat. Alerting the students to quiet down as he starts his speech.
"I got a spot, I'll see you up there!" You reply quickly, leaving their sides. Without your knowledge, Apple tried to reach you. But sighs, heading to his seat as Briar glances at your fleeing figure. Following his friend to find their seats.
-
Leaning back and forth, you stand in line as you try to peek glances around your line-mate. Seeing the long strands of raven black hair placed into a long braid, your eyes widen. "Raven! Psst!" You lightly tug at his feathery robe, the gasps, flinching as he turns around. His milky white skin looked paler than before.
"O-Oh.. (Y/N), h.. Hi." The male rubs his arm, glancing away. He wore a sullen look on his face as he bites his purple painted lips. "Nervous?" You blurt out, reaching out a hand to where his rested on his arm.
"Y...Y-yeah.. More than that." His voice wavers, sounding squeaky, back hunching over slightly as if he appeared sick to his stomach.
"I..I- I don't think I can do this (Y/N)...Please, I.. I don't WANT to do this.." He mumbles, closing his eyes as he try to take deep breaths.
Stepping forward, you grab both his hands, holding them delicately.
"Raven! Raven.. Breath for me. Breath.." You tell him urgently, tone trying to be soothing.
"I.. I don't- I-I... O..Ok.." He takes in small gulps of air, his shaky hands grasping yours tightly.
Following his lead, you do the same. Choosing to puff up your cheeks like a pufferfish. Mid breath, a quivering laugh leaves him. "Ha.. heh..."
"I..It's fine. I.. I'm fine." He states, loosening his grip, turning around to face forward. You frown. "Raven... We can talk, I want to listen. Please, Raven, I'm not a mind reader, I can't help if you won't even let me try.
His breath hitches when hearing your words, gazing down at your arms wrapped around his own, he sees the small raven charm on you. A soft smile decorates his face, thoughts clearing up in his mind as he takes a couple breaths.
Headmaster Grim walks up to the platform, "Next we have... Apple White."
Students start cheering for Apple as he walks across the stage. Doves fly onto his shoulders, perched politely until he raises his arms as they fly away.
"I.... Am Apple White! Son of Snow White. I am ready to pledge my destiny!"
A key appears before Apple's hand, and he takes it and unlocks the book with it. Immediately the book springs open with lifelike images of his and Raven's story. A mirror appears in front of him and Apple views his future self: a perfect king ruling over Ever After. He eagerly signs the book, and the students cheer for him, the rebels on the other hand frown and don't bother to cheer.. Before he departs, Apple gives the crowd kisses
"And next... Raven Queen."
Hearing the Headmaster call him next, something inside you told you to NOT let him go.
"(Y/N)..." He whispers, reluctantly trying to pull away.
"... Right, sorry." You let go, bracelet jingling to your movement.
Raven steps away, giving a small wave to you.
Lightning flashes nearby and students start whispering as Raven steps to the podium.
"I am Raven Queen, son of the Evil Queen, and I pledge...um...I..."
Fiddling with the charms anxiously, one falls and bounces onto the upper stage.
"Wait no no no-!" You rush over to grab it, picking it up without a thought as you raise your head. Seeing the audiences gaze back at you in confusion or Raven. Apple is waiting behind Raven excitedly. "Come on! Do it!"
Raven looks back to the headmaster, who is in the background groaning in annoyance at your sudden entrance.
Raven holds out his hand and a key appears. He takes it and unlocks the book and finds his own story unravel, with each illustration worse than the next. Finally, his mirror of his future self appears, and it is him in chains. Raven gasps in shock at, the mirror transforms into a pen and Raven is hesitant to take
'W... What..? T-that's what the book of density is...!' You feel anger rise into your bones. You look at Raven, charm clutched into your palm, you run over to where he stood. Headmaster Grim, seeing this, grabs your arm quickly. "Just what in Ever After are you doing!?" He hollers, pulling you back, you snarl at him, using your free hand to shove him away. The ruckus on stage alerted Apple as he yelped in fright.
"I am Raven Queen, and I am.."
With another rough shove, you managed to escape him. Stumbling over to Raven, you almost reached him-!
Until Apple pulls you away, his once kindly expression turned into disappointment at your brazen actions. Fear takes over your gut as he puts pressure on your wrist, you wince as he gazes at you a with sneer. Hissing at the pain, you raise your fist-!
"..I'm going to write my own destiny!"
He takes the book, "My Happily Ever After starts now!" He shuts it as mirrors shatter around him.
"Oh my... " Blondie gasps, mirror-tablet recording everything.
Maddison starts to cheer, "Yaayyy!" "Raven did it!" The rebels cheer for him happily!
Raven looks at himself in awe and disbelief "Oh I...I'm still here!" He turns to the Headmaster angrily. "I didn't disappear!"
Apple let's go of your hand, taking a step back, fire burning in his eyes as he points to you and Raven. "How could you be so...So selfish?" Despair and hurt replaces his wrath, voice wobbly.
In support of Apple the Royals boo at Raven. In support of Raven the Rebels kept their cheering. The sounds becoming so loud that Raven couldn't even think! His voice rasing, " I'm sorry Apple, but I...ugh. Hold EVERYTHING!"
A purple beam flairs out of his palms, casts a freezing spell over the entire audience." Oh...I didn't know I could do that!" He stares at his hands in horror.
"Raven!" You yell out, unfrozen.
"Y.. You're not frozen?" He questions.
"I... Guess not?" Surprised at this turn of events.
Walking over to him, cradling your wrist you let a relieved laugh. Raven returns it, eyes filled with joy.
The two of you glance at Apple, he hurriedly unfreezes him. "I'm sorry Apple, but I don't want anyone to tell me who to be. I wanna figure that out on my own! Don't you understand?"
"I'm not the only one who gets to choose their own destiny now. We all do! Even you..."
Apple scoffed. "But, I don't want to choose a new destiny. I liked the one I had! And because of you-" He points to Raven. "-It might not happen". Raven smiles optimistically. "But it might?"
Apple sniffles, eyes watery with tears. "I don't know." He hides his face in his hands and walks away. " I...I just don't know."
Watching the blonde run off, you glance at the bruise decorating your skin. "Damn, I gotta find ice. Worst lick, ever."
Raven shakes his head but finds that at least half the students are supportive of his choice, gaze falling onto the crowd. Raven unfreezes Maddison, when seeing his friend's ecstatic frozen expression Hatter.
"Wow!" He comically falls down. "You're still here. No poof, poof, POOF! Yay!"
"I know, it feels good!"
Maddison hugs Raven, bringing you into the group hug. The three of you let go, smiling with towards the future.
....
"Listen, Narrators! We are trying to have a nice moment here!"
The three of your laugh.
Finally looking at which charm that fell, you scoff when seeing it was actually the car key that was on your choker.
