CHAPTER TWENTY || NEW MOON

"I can smell it" Jacobs Jaw Clenched as soon as Violet opened the passenger side door of the truck outside Bella's house. She could see Matteo stood in-front of Bella at the door of the house refusing to Let her inside until he knew the extent of the situation.

"Matt! What's going on?" Violet questioned as she got out the truck, Matteo's eyes met hers laced with Urgency as Jacob Followed Violet up to the door.

"That's Carlisle's car! They're here" Bella argued desperation in her eyes as she Turned to Violet and Jacob Begging them to let her venture further into possible danger. Violet looked up at Jacob noticing the way his nostrils flared at the Vampire stench that lingered in the air.

"It could be a trick" Jacob urged not willing to take the chance. Violet could tell he was itching to get both Bella and Violet away from whatever blood sucker was near.

"They won't hurt me." Bella countered as her eyes darted between Violet, Matteo and Jacob. Yet Jacob shook his head, He knew what was at risk.

"If a Cullen is back here. This is their territory. The treaty says we can only defend in our own lands. I can't protect you two here." Jacobs eyes flickered to Violet Worry lacing his voice as Bella scoffed.

"That's okay. You don't have to." Bella spoke Matteo's wide eyes meeting Jacob's as if Confused as to what he was talking about as Bella pushed past him entering the house.

"yeah well i do." Matteo Scoffed squaring off his shoulders as he followed Bella into the house. No treaty bound him to protecting his Family. Nothing was stopping him from killing a Vampire. Violet did a double take as she watched Jacob stand still before she made a split second decision. Following her Brother and Cousin into the house.

Matteo followed Bella into the house, Violet following a few steps behind him as they entered the darkness that was the Swan residence. Violet's anxiety rocked her body as the light in the hallway switched on without someone touching it. A gasp escaping Bella's lips Causing The twins head to jerk toward Bella. Their eyes falling on another woman they'd seen before, Alice.

"Alice!" Bella gushed a surreal amount of relief escaping her lips as she frantically Pulled Alice into her arms leaving both Violet and Matteo shocked.

"I'm sorry- I- I- Just can't believe you're here.. Is-" Bella's voice was frantic as she broke the hug pulling away to look at Alice yet her words where quickly interrupted by Alice's anger laced voice.

"Would you like to explain to me how you're alive?!" Alice accused her orange eyes Wide as she avoided even looking at the twins who stood protectively behind Bella.

"I saw a vision of you- Both of you. Jumping off a cliff! Why in the hell would you try and kill yourself?! I mean what about Charlie? What about-" Alice's voice was stern and Cold as she lectured Bella, Matteo fighting the urge to flash his golden Yellow eyes before Bella cut Alice off.

"I didn't try to kill myself! I was Cliff jumping- Recreationally... It was fun." Bella excused her behaviour earning an audible scoff from Both twins and Alice.

Alice had ordered Bella to the couch, And Matteo out of the house yet he'd refused. Bella and Alice sat Opposite each-other on the couch while Violet sat in the arm chair across from them, The jacket Jacob had given her wrapped tightly around her. Her still still cold to the touch due to the jump in the ocean earlier on.

"I have never met anyone more prone to life threatening idiocy." Alice said as she sat beside Bella. Matteo stood by the window listening still unsure as to what was fully going on.

"did you tell him?" Bella asked her heart and thoughts lying with Edward causing Matteo to Clench his jaw. In his mind, Bella had almost killed herself because of The blood sucker. And it was the truth.

"No... he only calls in once every few months— he said he wants to be alone." Alice revealed and Violet could feel Bella's heart breaking further from across the room. Silence lingered for a moment as Bella looked down before Alice's face contorted with disgust.

"Bella what is that God awful wet dog smell?" Alice asked her nose twitching at the smell that caused Alice nausea.

"Uh- Probably all three of us.." Bella's glance followed Violet before her eyes laid on Matteo. The disgust on Alice's face growing.

"It's me." Matteo huffed Turning from the window to look at Alice, His golden yellow eyes flashing at Alice causing a gasp to slip past the lips of the vampire.

"And Jacob." Violet added, The jacket she had wrapped around her Smelt like Jake, Yet what Violet was smelling was so far from what Alice had described. To Violet the smell that enveloped her when she was in Jacobs arms was comforting, Forest pine, with hints of ocean breeze. that only aided the comfort she felt around Jake.

"Jacob?" Alice questioned unsure as she stared at Matteo with disgust, Her opinions on werewolves going as far as to say she was disgusted. Disgusted with all types of werewolves even the ones that didn't care such a putrid stench — matteo.

"He's kinda a werewolf" Bella nodded her eyes flickering between Alice and Matteo as Alice let a disgusted scoff escape her lips.

"Urgh- Bella. Werewolves are not good company to Keep." Alice warned Ignoring Matteo's existence causing the boy to step forward his eyes Flashing a Golden yellow again. Violet quickly warning her brother— "Matt. watch it"

"Speak for yourself." a familiar Voice echoed from the doorway behind the couch. Violet's eyes instantly falling on Jacob While Alice jumped from her seat— she was out numbered by wolves.

"I had to see you both were safe" Jacob said as his eyes flickered between Violet and Bella his best friend and his— well he wasn't sure...

"I thought you couldn't protect us here" Violet asked as she stood up from the arm chair, Her arms crossed over her chest as a shiver fell down her spine.

"Guess i don't care." Jacob sighed his words revealed more than what it seemed as A weak smile tugged at Violet's lips while Bella stared up at him in shock from the couch.

"Well I'm not gonna hurt her" Alice defended causing a scoff to echo from Matteo, The vampires head snapping in his direction sending him a glare.

"I don't know that." Matteo scoffed, his protective natural over his family showing greatly. Just as Alice went to speak Jacob cut her off.

"No you're just a harmless Cullen. I'm talking about the other blood sucker. who tried to kill Bella and Violet because of you" Alice's expression dropped to one of worry as her head snapped back to bella; "Victoria??"

"Yeah Victoria's been around." Bella nodded Avoiding everyone's eye-contact as Violet slowly walked around the couch approaching Jacob.

"I didn't see you get pulled out the water either. I can't see past you and your pack of Mutts." Alice Accused her eyes darting between both Matteo and Jacob despite the two wolves differing abilities her comment struck a nerve between both of them. Matteo taking a step forward as his jaw clenched while Jacob warned; "Don't Get me upset."

"Hey-" Violet rushed toward Jake while Bella rushed toward Matteo while Jacob Continued his warning despite Both Violet and Bella's attempted to get him to shut up: "or things are gonna get very ugly"

"stop- stop-" Violet shushed as she stepped in-front of Jacob her hand falling on his Chest to Calm him while Alice spoke to Bella before stepping away to 'give everyone a moment'

"You're not actually going anywhere right? You're gonna come back?" Bella questioned almost tripping over her words as Alice headed for the front door.

"As soon as you put the dogs out." Alice offered a sarcastic smile before leaving through the front door her words pissing Matteo off even more.

"Who does that short ass think she is?" He scoffed seething in anger. He couldn't understand why his control had been so all over the place. Back in Beacon hills it was fine. But around forks. around any Vampires he felt as if he could lose it any second.

"How many Cullens are here? and how long are they staying?" Jacob asked as Violet ushered him into the next room away from her Brother and cousin.

"It's just her. and I don't know. As long as Bella wants her to" Violet answered Leading Jake into the kitchen, Her words didn't seem to be good enough answers for him as he scoffed.

"Well are the others coming back?" He questioned as Violet leant against the Cabinet's running a hand through her hair. Her other hand securely wrapped around her midsection preserving her warmth.

"Not that i know of." Violet sighed Shaking her head, She just wanted everything to be normal. She wanted Bella to be okay, Be out of Danger. Yet that just didn't seem plausible. At least for a while.

"Well If that's all you better go run back to Sam" Violet shrugged the memory of The kiss replaying in her mind filling her with Anxiety as she avoided Jacobs eye-contact.

"I keep doing this. I keep breaking my promises. I said i wouldn't leave you and i did- Twice." Jacob sighed, Violets lips tightening into a straight line— first when he turned and left without a trace, then leaving because he couldn't protect her there.

"We don't have to do this to each other Jake. What i said at the Movie theatre, The timing-" Jacob shook his head as he took a step toward Violet.

"Yes we do." His voice softened as his hand gently came up to Cup Violet's Cheek. His warm hand gently tilting her face upwards to look at him. An instant sense of electricity rushing through Violet'a veins as she met his eyes. The dull light illuminating the room accenting his beautiful features.

"Violet- Kwop Kilawtley." Jacob whispered, His voice sending a shiver down Violets spine as butterflies erupted deep within her stomach. Her hand falling on his firm Chest as he leant forward. Agonising tension between them as Jacob's lips brushed hers, His Lips soft and inviting as she fought every urge screaming at her to collide with him and fully close the gap.

Violet was drowning in the close proximity of Jacob black, His warmth, His smell everything about him drew her in. And just as she was about to close the gap between them and ease the burning desire they both felt the phone rang. again.

A soft huffed slipped past Jacobs lips as he begrudgingly stepped back reaching for the landline phone attached to the wall beside them and answering it.

"Swan residence" Jacob answered holding the old wired landline up to his ear as Violet watched the interaction while Bella walked into the Kitchen having her heard the phone ring. Jacob's expression changing as he heard the voice on the other side of the phone. His jaw clenching tightly.

"He's not here right now. He's arranging a funeral." Jacob answered his soft tone switching to one of distress as he ended the phone slamming it back on the wall. Both Bella and Violet's eyes growing wide as the waited for an explanation from Jake.

"Who was that??" Bella questioned taking a frantic step toward Jacob a sense of urgency and panic in her voice. Jacob shook his head, Teeth grinding against each-other as he looked over at Bella.

Jacob's chest pounding with emotion as he took a step back from Bella and Violet, Violet's brows furrowing as she stepped forward and asked; "Who was that?"

"Violet step back." Jake took a breath. Matteo and Alice rushing around the corner Alice's expression laced with Panic as she called out for Bella.

"Bella it's Edward. He thinks you're dead. Rosalie told him why i came here." Alice explained leaving both girls in shock, Bella instantly turning toward Jake in shock.

"why would you- Why didn't you let me speak to him?!" Bella exclaimed taking a frantic step toward Jacob Betrayal rushing through her veins.

"He didn't ask for you!" Jake countered Making Violet take a step back from the two arguing in shock, Her mind exploding with thoughts.

"Bella! Bella! He's going to the volturi. He wants to die too." Alice exclaimed pulling Bella away from Jacob Further causing panic ridden tension throughout the room.

"Bella. Violet- You can't go after him. He left." Jacob shook his head Following Violet out to Alice's Car. Matteo Opening the back door of the Car for Violet to get in. There's no way he was letting Bella go anywhere alone.

"I'm not letting him Kill himself out of Guilt" Bella panicked walking around the car to the passenger side ignoring the rest of Jakes words as she got in. Just as Violet was about to get in the Cat Jake grabbed her wrist stopping her.

"Please Vi- Just stay here... For me—" Desperation Consumed Jacob's eyes, Worry for the girl in front of him drowning his heart. Matteo stood watching the interaction scrutinising Jacob's behaviour as Violet stared up and Jacob her heart clenching.

"I'm Begging you. Please." Jacobs voice was soft, Desperate as he begged for Violet to stay- He couldn't have her in danger. She couldn't have her surrounded by all those Bloodsuckers.

"Stay." Matteo Voiced— Violet's head jerking toward her brother in shock having never imagined those words to escape his lips. Violet's eyes widened, Her lips slightly parted in shock as Matteo turned to Jake.

"She stays. She's under your protection. Anything happens to her and so help me god i will kill you." Matteo threatened, His protective nature never seemed to fall no matter what the consequences. Jacob nodded, his expression completely serious.

"And you. You call Scott. I don't care who, Scott, Stiles, Isaac. get Someone down here. I might not know everything about this Victoria chick but i know enough" Matteo ordered his stern exterior almost frightening as Violet nodded. she hated being the one who had to be protected.

Matteo glanced between Jacob and Violet one last time before getting in the back of Alice's car, much to her distaste.
