Ten
Charlie didn't know how he found himself here, but Max somehow convinced him to go to a party—more like dragging him there. He had been a bit homesick since he returned from break, and Max knew he needed to get out and have fun.
"Oh, come on, Charlie, don't be such a party pooper; it's going to be fun. You look hot, and that's a straight guy taking." Max convinced as they entered the crowded room that smelled like beer and cigarettes. Charlie just looked at him in amusement and rolled his eyes playfully.
"Haha. Thanks, Max. I'm just going to get some punch," Charlie said with a chuckle as he walked to the snack table. He made a face at how dirty and gross it already was when the party had just started.
"Ugh," the curly-headed teen mumbled as he poured himself a glass of punch, not hearing someone walk up behind him.
"Charlie?"
Charlie jumped, startled by the sudden voice, which caused him to spill the cup of punch he had just poured. He cursed in embarrassment and turned to see who stood before him. "Josh?..."
"Can we talk?" Josh asked, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"I have nothing to say to you," Charlie told Josh. Charlie tried to walk away, but Josh grabbed his wrist, stopping him. "Charlie, please," he begged desperately.
"No, Josh! The moment you cheated on me with Jax, you lost my respect. I don't have shit to say to you." Charlie snapped, losing his patience as Josh grabbed his wrist tightly, keeping him in place.
"Well, I saw how close you were getting with your ex, and I got jealous! Can you blame me?" Josh quizzed, tightening his grip on Charlie's wrist.
"Do not bring Nick into this." Charlie yanked his arm back, staring at Josh with hurt in his eyes. "You're only trying to make up excuses for your actions when you're in the wrong." He sassed, getting frustrated. Josh shook his head in annoyance, "Jesus, Charlie, you are always so goddamn sensitive. I'm glad I'm with Jax now and not you." He seethed.
Charlie stared at Josh, tears whelmed at the harsh words. "And you have always been such a dick!" He shouted, causing a few heads to turn their way.
"You can't be mature for once, can you?" Josh said, "I shouldn't have even come over here."
"Yeah. You shouldn't have." Charlie agreed in frustration. He watched as Josh stormed off into the crowded room.
Charlie stood there, his brain crowded with thoughts like the crowded party he was at. He began to feel overwhelmed as if he was going to spiral downward.
He knew what he had to do: He knew he had to call the only person who could cheer him up at this moment.
Nick.
