Nine

The break was over, and Charlie was back at University. He sat at his desk with a sigh, not that happy to be back.

Don't get me wrong—
He adored University but missed his friends like crazy after spending so much time with them during the break.

Especially Nick. It felt like a weight had been lifted off of Charlie's shoulders. Brushing the past away and starting over is the best feeling in the world. Now, Charlie didn't know what to do with himself.

How pathetic did that sound?

Charlie was about to start coursework when his roommate, Max, entered his room. "Oh, you're back from break! I've been so bored! You need to tell me EVERYTHING."

Charlie chuckled softly at Max's enthusiasm. He always admired how energetic he was. "Alright, alright, just chill."

"How do you expect me to chill? You've been gone for two weeks!" Max said dramatically.

Charlie playfully rolled his eyes. "Okay. I guess you should first know I broke up with Josh," he said casually.

Max stared at Charlie in shock, "You broke up with Josh? Why!? And how can you say that so casually!?"

"Well, he cheated on me with Jax..."

Max's face fell at the new information; he shook his head, "Oh my god, That motherfucker."

Charlie couldn't help but chuckle in amusement, "But...That was the bad news. Something good happened as well." Max raised an eyebrow, waiting impatiently for Charlie to tell him.

"Remember Nick?" Charlie started.

"You mean, your ex that you've been pining over? Yeah, I remember him." Max snorted. "Hey!" Charlie huffed. "But what? What about him? Tell me!" Max whined.

"We worked everything out...We're friends again." Charlie smiled softly.

Max was surprised, but as he saw Charlie's smile, he knew this was good for his roommate. He leaned against the wall and hummed, "Well, good for you, mate! As long as this makes you happy."

Charlie smiled at what Max said and nodded, "It does. If that makes sense, it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, you know?"

Max nodded, "It does." He assured, "Just let me know if Josh gives you any trouble, alright? I know how he can be." Charlie felt his heart warm at his roommate's concern. "Thanks, Max."

"Anytime, Charlie. Want to order pizza for dinner?" Max asked with a hum.

Charlie chuckled, "I swear all you think about is food."

"Hey! I'm offering to buy us pizza here!" Max protested. "Okay, okay, pizza sounds great," Charlie assured with a laugh.

"Awesome sauce. I'll go order it!"
Max rushed out.

Charlie shook his head in amusement and began to work on his coursework again. It felt nice to talk to Max again. He definitely missed his roommate when he was away.
