Phebie

Day 5

It was a great day to be at the mall, everyone rushing to buy their various items… or even do a little Christmas shopping. For those who can afford it, Phebie though.  Phebie and Nancy were at the mall today, while Nancy pointed out various object she’d like to purchase, Phebie was cogitating about the events that happened the precious evening.

It was unfair, Phebie knew, not be tell her best friend about her engagement to Andrew, but if she did Nancy would surly suspect her fiancé and that would be unfair to Andrew, who Phebie knew had nothing to do with Nancy’s father’s disappearance.  Phebie had been planning to break the new to Nancy when she came over the previous evening, but was surprised to find out about Nancy’s father’s disappearance and the fact that Andrew could be involved. Which he isn’t, Phebie told herself firmly.  Andrews’ already filthy rich, so he doesn’t need Mr. Parker’s money…or does he?  NO!  He doesn’t!

Phebie momentarily glared at her best friend, as if I don’t have enough problems already, and then you come and tell me this! Sometimes, it’s hard for Phebie to be around Nancy, to see someone she loved and cared about have everything she herself has always wanted but could never have, have more than once come close to destroying their friendship.

“There it is!” Nancy pointed out, pointing at a pet store “it’s just 3 shops ahead.” Then Nancy unconsciously held Phebie’s hand in the loving gesture they often did and let go.

Phebie’s anger immediately subsided.  It wasn’t Nancy’s fault that Andrew’s company was somehow involved in Mr. Parker’s disappearance, she should be supportive. I have to tell Nancy, or she’ll never forgive me, Phebie thought. Phebie loved her friend and her carefree nature, Nancy doesn’t really care what you think of her.  She only do things that pleases herself, and when it comes to fashion, Nancy either dresses; corporate chic or homely comfort.

Most people would be embarrassed to be seen with Nancy right now, she’s dressed in a white T-shirt with a yellow-orange cardigan worn over and beach coloured cargo pants and a bright orange coloured moccasins. Well, Phebie thought skeptically at least something matches, remembering the argument they had over the beanie hat Nancy had wanted to wear. But a least your things have quality, Phebie added silently.  She looked down at the clothes she wore and a little smile came across her lips, Phebie prided herself for her sense of fashion.  Phebie wore a pink short-sleeved blouse with black detail outlines, a navy (blue-black) knee-length skirt and a denim jacket with stiletto high heeled pumps.  Phebie did a layered hair style and wore a hat that was a cross between a panama and a boater, with a pink band with black lining strapped cross the middle.

Even without being told, Phebie knew all eyes were on her. And for once, didn’t envy Nancy for something. Wishing her friend could have a better attitude towards public appearance. And as Nancy pushed open the pet shop store door, Phebie push all her worries out of her mind, and vowed to enjoy the time she still had with her friend for she hoped it would not be her last.
