The Walk
Elridge Cemetery is only a few blocks from our favorite bars and music venues so it is only right for us to walk there after our meet up. Well, that and the fact that it was the best way to embarrass the person wearing the Big Pink Ballerina Bunny Princess Costume that year. After stuffing everything into the trunk of Cassie's car we started our trek down the same path we've taken every year since we were fifteen.
"So Jarrod, who is the band that you decided we are going to see this year since you've insisted on keeping it a secret?" I question as we stepped onto the sidewalk.
A devilish smirk spread across his face as he threw his arms over the shoulders of Laurel and myself. "Do you remember that guy that Heather had the biggest crush on in high school but swore he was only a friend?"
There was only one guy that Heather ever gushed about. With his wavy black hair, perfectly toned body, and straight pearly white teeth he was the knight in shining armor any and every teenage girl dreamed about. It wasn't really a secret that he liked her too but neither one of them made a move for obvious reasons. If there was one person in the world that Heather wanted to live for besides her family and friends it was, "Brandon Shephard?" I asked with a puzzled look on my face.
"Yeah, that guy!" Jarrod confirmed. "Do you remember how he had a cousin that was the drummer of that awful band Heather always wanted us to go see?"
Cole hopped in front of us, walking backwards, "yeah, yeah!" He bubbled, "she was always going on and on about how amazing they were, that people just didn't ubderstand their sophisticated sound, and how Sunnie would be totally into Brandon's cousin."
"Exactly!" Jarrod grinned. "Well, I ran into Brandon at the coffee shop the other day and he mentioned that his cousin is the lead singer of some up and coming band. The best part though is that they're playing tonight! I mean, how lucky is that?" He beamed as he held out all of the tickets including Heather's.
"You do realize that Heather's one true pairing will be in the same. Exact. Room. Tonight!" Cassie squealed, "and one of them will be dressed in a Big Pink Ballerina Bunny Princess costume!"
All five of my so called best friends were in absolute hysterics at this point and my heart was beating faster than a jack hammer being controlked by a drunk guy. "You're bullshitting me, right?" I gasped as I push the hood of the costume out of my face.
"Nope," Jarrod laughs. "They're called No Bad Days and they go on in thirty minutes."
"I could kill you right now." I grumble as we walked up to Slim's.
The night was barely starting and as much as I loved Heather I wanted it to be over. This day was always rough for me but now I was having to worry about completely embarrassing my self in front of some random guy I barely remember hearing about on top of dealing with all of the memories I have of Heather.
