A/N: Title's going to be shortened to Immortals. Yes I know they're both Fall Out Boy songs, but I'm FOB trash and on a mission. This is an alternate universe type story, where the Doctor actually did take the Cyberarmy off Missy. - L x
During the Death in Heaven graveyard scene
"Oh, stop looking all cross-pants. I'm here to give you a gift. Could you at least try and be excited?" Missy smiled with her usual smirk tattooed across her face.
"What gift?" The Doctor responded in a tone as poisonous as a cobra.
"Cyberdears!" she called into her baying audience of silver.
As if pulled by a thread they all turned to face her, like soldiers.
"Look at Mummy! Raise your arms. Lower your arms. Raise your right. Lower your right. Turn on the spot. There are exits at the front and rear of the aircraft. Please follow the lights up the aisle". They all followed her every command, while The Doctor watched intensively, thoughts rushing through his head, most of all trying to figure out the craziness that the day had produced. "You see, Doctor? The power to slaughter whole worlds at a time, then make them do a safety briefing. Everyone who ever lived, man, woman and child, is now at my command. An indestructible army to rage across the universe. The more they kill, the more they recruit". Her impression changed suddenly from murderer to friend in a blink of an eye. She shifted her heavy purple skirt from side to side and hopped towards him slightly. "Happy birthday. Oh! You didn't know, did you? It's lucky one of us remembers these things. Happy birthday Mister President", she lulled like a lark and gently placed her bracelet on the Doctor's wrist, curtseying to the new king of her cyberarmy.
"Doctor", all of the Cybermen said in their monotone way, bowing their heads in submission.
"Tiny bit pleased? Oh, go on, crack a smile. I want to see if your eyebrows drop off", she playfully joked, reminding him of their olden days on Gallifrey.
"All of this. All of it, just to give me an army?" he breathed in realisation. He thought it was to take over the world, over the galaxy, but it was for him, all for him.
"Well, I don't need one, do I? Armies are for people who think they're right. And nobody thinks they're righter than you. Give a good man firepower, and he'll never run out of people to kill".
"I don't want an army!"
"Well, that's the trouble! Yes, you do! You've always wanted one! All those people suffering in the Dalek camps? Now you can save them. All those bad guys winning all the wars? Go and get the good guys back".
"Nobody can have that power".
"You will, because you don't have a choice. There's only way you can stop these clouds from opening up and killing all your little pets down here. Conquer the universe, Mister President. Show a bad girl how it's done". Missy dropped into a low curtsey, waiting for any reaction to the bloody long time she took out of her life to get it done.
"Why are you doing this?"
"I need you to know we're not so different. I need my friend back. Every battle, every war, every invasion. From now on, you decide the outcome". Seeing the concern written into his frowning eyebrows, she read him like a magazine. "What's the matter, Mister President? Don't you trust yourself?"
His face twisted into memories of the overhanging question of his morality. Then, it just stopped. They stopped being pessimistic (for once). He looked towards Missy, her huge green eyes like emeralds set into her skull and looked deep into them, seeing actual love. For once in his life his heart and head knew where to go, no longing for answers or the right path. Because what if he didn't do the right thing. Just for one day, not doing the right thing. A story crept to the front of his mind, one from his early years on Gallifrey. He remembered going to see Missy and listening to her mother tell her a story of a boy. A boy who spent his life being good, trying to do the right thing, but then one day everything was taken from him. So, she used to ask Missy, what was the point of being good?
"Thank you". He said, picking the bracelet off the ground and gently holding her hand. "Thank you so much".
