Chapter Twenty Six
Ratchet sat in the silence with him for a while before reaching through the bars and grabbing the soup on the tray, giving it to him. "Here, you need to eat." He spoke firmly, giving him a look. Bumblebee glanced at him and sighed forcefully. He sat up and quietly took it then started to eat. He looked at him and gave him a questioning expression. Wondering if he had eaten.
The doctor shook his head. "I ate at the hospital." He said calmly then frowned seeing him suddenly act strangely. "Bumblebee?" He asked with pure concern. The scout suddenly jumped in surprise and cried out. The young man shook his head as he looked at him then set the soup aside. He furrowed his brow and glanced at his hands, trying to figure out what had happened. It was strange and his eyes widened suddenly. His alternate mode. He cried out again and looked around quickly.
The older man frowned deeply and looked at him with worry. He looked to a soldier and got up, grunting at his weak knees. He began asking him frantically to let Bumblebee go but the man wouldn't let him.
"That man is dangerous and attacked one of our own." He said seriously. "We can't just let him go." He huffed. Bumblebee watched him and bit his lip as he rubbed his midsection. He glanced around wondering what was going on.
Ratchet frowned. "He is family and I can keep an eye on him. Please listen to me." He spoke firmly, glaring at the soldier.
The man narrowed his eyes as he watched him then glared at Bumblebee. "I'll see what I can do." He said seriously and left.
Ratchet nodded then watched him go. He went to Bumblebee in front of the bars and gripped them. "Are you in pain?" He frowned.
He shook his head then furrowed his brow as he shuddered. They were doing something to his alternate mode. He looked at Ratchet with fear in his eyes then wondered if he even remembered. How could he explain things to him? Yes he was in pain but it came and went. His eyes widened in pain and he cried out as he curled up and lay on the floor. He felt strange as if he was being torn in two different directions. He felt his alternate mode coming back online but he had been a Holoform for far too long. Blood dripped from his nose as the strain became worse.
Ratchet's eyes widened seeing him holler. He knelt down and wished he could scan him like he usually could, but he couldn't and it frustrated him. He got up, running to find the soldier with the keys. Bumblebee screamed in his broken voice as the pain continued. They were rushing it and he was struggling to focus on the two forms. He wasn't used to this. He curled up more and shook as he gripped his head.
The doctor grabbed the keys as the soldier was asking his boss then ran back to the cells, quickly unlocking them. He swung the door open and ran to him, crouching by his side, scared he may go into a seizure. Bumblebee started shaking more and cried out as the blood dripped from his nose. He seemed to be in danger of going into one.
The old medic sat behind him and put the young man's head on his lap, holding his head to the side a bit and trying to make him comfortable. He pushed his hair back a bit, frowning deeply. "Easy, Bumblebee..." he muttered. The scout grit his teeth and seethed through them as he tried to calm himself. He gripped the man's arm and looked at him with fear. He didn't know what to do and he couldn't do anything to stop this. The soldiers with the keys rushed over.
Ratchet began helping the man stand to his feet. He gripped his shoulder and began helping him leave the cell. "He needs medical attention." He told the soldiers sternly.
"He isn't leaving. Plus he got the bloody nose from when we fought him." He said seriously and they stood in his way. Bumblebee gripped his friend's arm and smiled a little, trying to reassure him it would be okay.
"Go... to Jack..." he rasped weakly as he looked at him. "Thank... you..." he whispered as his voice faded more.
The doctors eyes widened then narrowed. "I'm not going anywhere. You are close to having a seizure." He told him seriously, his tone telling him to stay out of it, since clearly he couldn't make decisions. He looked at the soldiers with a look. "Listen to me, I'm a doctor and I know what I'm talking about. He needs help."
"We have to get approval from our superiors." He said seriously as he looked at them. "Work on him in the cell for now." He mumbled. Ratchet glared at them before going into the cell and having the young man sit on the bench, grumbling under his breath in annoyed rambles. There wasn't much he could do in this form for him.
Bumblebee sat there and lay down for a moment. He closed his eyes as he winced and tried to focus. He furrowed his brow as he heard a faint ringing. He let himself tune everything else out as he focused. Ratchet watched over him worriedly. He frowned deeply, making sure he was alright. The old doctor reached into his shirt pocket and took out a small napkin, cleaning the blood off his lip just below his nose.
The scout heard a voice and realized he had attempted to talk to her in his other form. He felt himself drifting in the darkness. He couldn't figure out where he was or when he was. He was just floating between nothingness. He heard the call end and moved towards where it came from. Trying to figure out where it had been or who it was. The scout suddenly went into a seizure and tensed up.
The doctor frowned and then suddenly helped put him on the side so his airway was clear. He began shushing him gently even though he knew it wouldn't help any. Bumblebee squeezed his eyes shut as he shook with the seizure. He tensed more and convulsed as he grit his teeth. Making his alternate mode communicate and move was too much. He couldn't do it and was suffering from the consequences.
Ratchet held him tight, glancing at his watch every now and then as he timed his seizure. He waited, holding his head so he didn't hurt himself further. He glared at the soldiers outside of the cell. "Do you believe me now?" he growled.
The men glared darkly and looked to Fowler as he walked in. They stepped back as he approached the cell and looked at them. Bumblebee struggled to stop and didn't know what to do to stop. He continued to have convulsions and squeezed his eyes shut again. He was scared and that didn't help his situation.
The doctor looked to Agent Fowler and frowned. "I need to move him to your medical bay! Will someone listen to me!?" He snapped, glaring at all of them. Fowler glared at the soldiers and yelled at them to help. They ran off and came back with a gurney. They then carefully put the young man on it and worked on strapping him down. They then rushed him to the medical area as he passed out.
Ratchet got up weakly and followed them, gripping the gurney as he rushed with them. He looked at Bumblebee worriedly. He began demanding orders, worried out of his mind. As they rushed to the medical area, they passed Riley and a soldier leading her to see her uncle. They seemed to be in deep conversation. The said soldier nodded slowly as they spoke and walked with her towards the cells. They stopped suddenly as they got close and saw them rushing out. Fowler didn't look at them as he told them to do as Ratchet asked. Bumblebee wasn't responding much except for twitching on occasion.
The young woman watched them go pass before she hurried after them, spotting her uncle on the gurney. Her uncle didn't move as they worked and Ratchet shouted orders. The doctor had them put an IV into Bumblebee's arm and keep the man still. They soon got him to the medical area and took him to a room to start working.
"What happened?" Fowler demanded as he looked at the soldiers then at Ratchet, but didn't get an answer as they went into the room. The door shut behind them for them to work without interruptions, at Ratchet's request.
The young woman frowned when she realized they couldn't go in. She wanted to check on the scout. "I don't know, I've been in the lab area."
Fowler sighed forcefully and rubbed his face then looked at one of the soldiers from the cell. "Well?" He growled and the man told him what he knew.
She looked at them with wide eyes. Bumblebee had a seizure? Her breath hitched. "That...was because of us. Oh my gosh." She covered her mouth, her heart feeling very heavy all of a sudden. She began rushing down the hall and to the lab.
"Riley!" Fowler shouted after her as he furrowed his brow. "Riley what happened?!" He yelled and huffed as he rubbed his face. He didn't know what to do. He wasn't sure what she meant either.
She glanced over her shoulder, unsure what to tell him. "I'll explain later!" She shouted back, feeling a terrible shiver go down her spine. She went to the lab and began unplugging things from the car, her hands shaking. She couldn't let this happen again.
The car wasn't responding in any way and seemed to be completely dead again. The soldiers had tried to run programs through him when she left. Riley frowned deeply as she grabbed two computers and managed to stuff them into her bag. She tried hiding most of the wires and tubing into the ceiling, standing on the desks. She was rushing herself to not get caught. She jumped down and grabbed the keys before hurrying out, locking the car. She took out her phone and began calling her father. She knew she'd get in trouble if she got caught. After a few minutes her father answered the phone.
"Riley? Is everything okay?" He asked as he furrowed his brow. They were cleaning up dinner and settling for the night.
His daughter ran down the hall and to a supply closet to try and calm down. She ran in and was relieved to hear her father's voice. She sat down on an upside bucket. "Dad, Dad, Bumblebee had a seizure... the tests... I was there and... and I think we did damage to him." She spoke worriedly, her voice shaking.
His eyes widened in surprise and horror as he listened. "Oh no..." he mumbled. "Riley take deep breaths and try to calm down. What do you need me to do?" He asked gently.
She gripped the phone tightly, trying to remain calm. "I-I need help. I don't know how to proceed in this. I'm trying to protect him the best I can but you know they can just kick me out whenever they want if I don't let them do what they want to. I'm scared for him... I-I.... is Skye back? What about Miko and the others?" She asked, rambling a bit as her eyebrows furrowed.
"Riley.... Riley..." he whispered calmly as she spoke quickly. "I need you to calm down sweetie. No they aren't back yet... and I know Ratchet will worry about that. Let me see what I can do for you. I need you to breathe calmly so you don't pass out." He whispered gently. Knowing her anxiety could do that.
She closed her eyes tightly and began taking a few deep shaky breaths, trying to calm down more. She really didn't want to pass out. She needed to be focused. After a moment of silence, she opened her eyes and her grip on the phone slackened. "Okay, okay... I'll just be with Bumblebee and Ratchet until I know he's alright. I think I slowed down any tests on his alternative mode... but it's just a delay." She then frowned. "Please tell me when Skye comes back or if the others do." She added and began to stand, holding onto the shelf next to her, the smell of cleaning supplies strong around her.
"Okay sweetie... okay... I'll help you the best I can and let you know when they get here." He said gently. He smiled a little as he sat down on the couch. "For now be with them and I'll see what I can do here." He whispered.
Riley nodded a bit as she listened. "Okay, alright Dad... thank you..." she whispered. "Love you." She murmured and began pulling the phone away then put it into her pocket. She left the closet, going to where Bumblebee was last seen, the door now open.
Fowler looked at her and furrowed his brow a little. "Everything alright?" He asked as the soldiers left to work on something else. She could see Bumblebee in the bed, hooked up to machines as he slept.
She looked at the scout, seeing Ratchet leave the room in a hurry. The old doctor wanted to go check on his stepson. "I... yes. Everything is fine. How is he?" She asked quietly, looking to her Uncle worriedly.
"He'll be fine... according to the good doctor." Fowler chuckled softly and looked at her then to the medic. 'The good doctor.' Ratchet had heard those words before and his mind flashed to a mech with sharp teeth and blood red optics. Megatron.
Riley relaxed a bit and looked to the older man. "That's good... Mr. Fowler... is there anyway you can get the soldiers to quit running tests on Bumblebees real form? It caused this to happen to him." Riley frowned a bit, hoping the man could do something.
Ratchet suddenly slammed into the wall, gripping onto his coat jacket, his eyes widening. He gasped for air, shocked as fear went through him quickly, the hairs on his arms standing up and a shiver going down his spine. "Megatron..."
Fowler frowned deeply then nodded a little as he thought. He wasn't happy that this had happened to the young man. "I'll see what I can do." He said seriously. Fowler looked over to where Ratchet went and blinked in surprise. He then rushed over to the man and gently gripped his shoulder. "You alright?" He asked.
The doctor gasped for air, his eyes wide. He looked to Fowler, trying to calm down quickly. "I... I'm fine." He whispered, frowning at him as Riley came over to check on him as well. "I'm alright.." he whispered, leaving them silently, holding the wall a bit for support. His mind was stuck on the image he had seen.
