Chapter Twenty Seven
Fowler furrowed his brow as he watched him go then looked at her. "Stay with Bumblebee... and I'll work on getting a few things passed so they won't work on the car unless you're there." He whispered quietly and gripped his shoulder before leaving.
Riley nodded, watching the man go worriedly. She saw him hold his arm and frowned before going to stay with Bumblebee. The young bot was still out and was hooked up to a few machines. He looked fine other than he was sleeping. She sat by him, frowning at seeing him rest like this, hooked up. Her leg bounced up and down anxiously and she gently took his hand, looking down to the tile floor. Bumblebee didn't respond as he lay there. It was getting late and everyone was tired from the events. Riley stayed with him silently, keeping her phone on ringer to the side. She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep in the chair.

Ratchet entered the room and went to his stepson, shaken up a bit. He looked him over, going to the chair by the bedside and sat. He took his hand and side softly. Jack watched him then furrowed his brow as he gripped his hand a little. "You... okay? You... look upset... disturbed." He whispered with worry.
The doctor looked to him and squeezed his hand a little. "I'm fine. Don't worry about me." He told him firmly.
The young man furrowed his brow as he watched him then looked around. "Did... they... make it back?" He asked.
The medic hesitated then his eyebrows knitted together as well. "I don't know. I assumed someone would tell them... then somehow tell me." He admitted.
Jack looked at him sadly and closed his eyes. "Skye... she's still on the surface... she has to sleep up there... Miko and the boys too... I don't like this....." he whispered.
"I don't like it either. But...I cannot stop Skye from being who she wants to be. I'm not her father." Ratchet chuckled a little, looking at him. "I'm sure Miko and the others will be fine. Miko is... Miko. I'm only worried for Skye... she is still such a pure little girl." He sighed softly.
"Yes... she is... I fear for the boys.... Hunter is like Miko... but..." he trailed off a little as he stared blankly and thought about his family. He didn't want any of them on the surface.
Ratchet paused, frowning. He wished he remembered more of the boys, it made him want to see them even more. He looked down, hoping they would be quick. He didn't like them on the surface either. It wasn't safe. "Miko will keep them safe. They have Bulkhead and Wheeljack too."
The young man smiled a little at the thought and nodded slowly. "I know they will..." he rasped quietly and closed his eyes for a moment. He was tired and it was getting late. He looked at him again then looked to the window. "They haven't... told me why I'm here...." he whispered.
The doctor sighed heavily and looked around then looked back to his stepson. "Well... we haven't really asked either." He grumbled, crossing his arms. "I'm sure they will tell us soon enough."
"Hopefully..." Jack whispered and looked at him then closed his eyes. "We should probably rest for now..." he muttered and sighed, though knew he'd struggle. Especially with his daughter out there. Ratchet nodded and began yawning, laying against the seat. He closed his eyes and began to rest for a long moment in the seat, exhausted.
Jack watched him then smiled a little before closing his eyes again. Hoping the night would be restful. Though unfortunately it wasn't for either. Ratchet had horrible memories of Megatron while Jack struggled to sleep altogether. Worried about his family and having nightmares about his mother. He gripped the sheets and panted heavily as his nightmares took hold of him. The young father grit his teeth and yelled as tears fell down his face while he sobbed.
Ratchet woke quickly after halfway through his nightmare. He panted a bit, shuddering as he felt sweaty and clammy. He looked to Jack hearing his scream and stood, jittering as he pushed back his hair from his forehead. He began shushing him gently, trying to wake him. The old doctor frowned deeply as he wiped away his tears worriedly.
The young man sobbed silently as he panted and struggled to breathe. He gasped as he woke up and looked at him, panting. He closed his eyes and sobbed, then shook his head. "I'm sorry..." he choked. "I'm sorry..."
The doctor took a seat on the edge of the bed and took his face gently in his old wrinkly hands. "Don't be sorry, Jack." He muttered, looking at him seriously and with concern. "You're safe here. Everyone is fine. It was only a nightmare." He began trying to reassure.
He nodded slowly and looked to the window then at him. "I... I know... I just... I need to... know they are safe... my mother too..." he rasped quietly.
He frowned deeply at hearing his words, his heart dropping. He couldn't provide assurance that June was alright knowing the possibility of her being held at Darkmount. "You couldn't do much about anything right now anyway Jack, it's best not to dwell on if they are safe or not. Miko said she is coming and you know how determined and stubborn your wife is." Ratchet then let himself snort and removed his hands from his face. "They are coming. You just need to trust it."
He nodded and smiled a little as he sighed forcefully. "I know..." he whispered quietly. "I can't wait to see her... it's been too long... and my boys..." he trailed off as he thought of his daughter. She wasn't with anyone.
Ratchet frowned as he listened to him. He looked away. "Jack... will you be alright if I leave you for a few hours? I'm sure Miko won't know to go there. I should go check the house... the hospital..." he murmured to him, thinking of Skye as well. He hoped she was back and not panicking.
Jack stared at him and knew what he was hoping to accomplish. He nodded slowly as he gripped his hand. He was silently afraid to be alone but didn't say anything. "Go... I'll be alright..." he whispered quietly. "She'll need you..."
The doctor studied him silently, unsure now. "Are... you certain? I can stay if you need me to." he said quietly, frowning as he gently curled his fingers around the hand that gripped his own.
"No... it's okay... I'll be fine..." he whispered quietly as he watched him. "Skye will need you if she's home..." he trailed off and an image of her dead on the surface entered his mind.
Ratchet nodded a bit and began standing as his joints popped. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Try to relax, alright?" The doctor suggested. He began leaving quickly, rushing down the halls to go to his apartment. Jack watched him go and closed his eyes. He sighed shakily as he thought and listened to the man leave. Hoping his daughter was okay.
The old man ran up the stairs, gripping the railing as his knees ached with each step. He opened the door and began searching around, calling for Skye. He didn't hear anything from the young woman. He searched the house and Raf looked at him. "Ratchet?" He said as he looked at him and followed.
The doctor frowned deeply. "No time, I need to find Skye." He spoke seriously, rushing out of the apartment and running to the hospital, a bit out of breath. The old man was getting very worried very fast.
Rafael frowned deeply and looked at him then at his wife. "I have to help him." He whispered quietly. "I'm afraid he might hurt himself..."
Sari looked at him tiredly. "Go ahead sweetheart... we will be fine here." She said calmly and she looked to her daughter by her side then back to her husband.
"I'll be back..." he whispered quietly and gently kissed her forehead. He then ran off after the old man as he worried about him.
Ratchet was hurrying down the street and threw open doors as he entered the hospital. The soldiers were gone and it gave Ratchet more room to run around, looking down halls and into room frantically. He still couldn't find her though, or the others. They weren't there. Rafael followed him as best he could and narrowed his eyes a little. The old man began to panic a bit. It was the next day and he wasn't sure why they weren't here. He began leaving the hospital then, running to the train tracks, soon just jogging as he grew tired and sore.
The young scientist followed him and made him stop at the train station. He had him sit down and calm down. "Ratchet... it's okay." He whispered
The doctor grunted as he sat, staring at the tracks. "It isn't." He whispered, trembling a little. He looked down slowly. "I need my family Rafael... I need them to come back." He whispered, pain in his voice. The doctor looked tired and drained, his expression down as he stared at his shoes. "I... I need my wife. I need my grandchildren..."
"And they need you to be here for them." He said seriously as he gently gripped his shoulder. "You need to keep yourself strong for them... they'll be here soon." He whispered quietly. "I know you need them... and I want to help you get them." He said seriously.
The old man shook his head. "No, you need to stay here with your family. You need to be with your wife and children. I need to take care of this." Ratchet told him seriously as he began standing, looking at the tracks silently, thinking of which way to go. He had to get to the surface and find them. "I need to go get my family..."
"Ratchet, listen to me." Rafael said as he stood and gripped his shoulders. "Don't you dare leave while your family is trying to come back. You could miss them by a few seconds. You have to be patient and wait for them to come back... what about Jack?" he asked.
The doctor tensed, impatient. He didn't want to wait. He was tired of waiting. He stared at the man, anger rising in him. He then thought about Jack, thinking over his words. "Jack is at the military base... Bumblebee and Riley are there. Jack will be fine... he has medical staff there that checks in."
"Ratchet... listen to yourself... please just stay here with us." he said seriously as his eyes became pleading. "Don't. Go." he said gently as he watched him with worry, trying to also calm his anger.
The Autobot went silent, looking at him. He was feeling so desperate to find his family. He hated waiting. He shook his head. "I-I... how can I be sure they don't need me? How can I be sure they are coming? How can I be sure of it, Rafael?" He asked seriously, his eyes watering a bit.
"Because... they do need you... last time you left... you didn't come back and Skye had a hard time trying to cope with that. She was alone without anyone... please don't leave again." He whispered.
Ratchet released a heavy sigh and nodded. Skye had been scared terribly when she couldn't find him. He began calming down, although he was a bit angry. "Alright."
Rafael watched him and knew he was upset. He wanted to help but wasn't sure how. "Trust me... please." He muttered.
The doctor let out a heavy sigh, nodding a little. "A-Alright... I'll go to the apartment. I should leave a note or something... so she knows I'm with Jack at the military base."
"She'll come straight home. You guys have more family now that you're with me and my family." He said as he smiled slightly and gently gripped his shoulder. He was glad to have them in his home.
The old doctor stared at him, exhaustion filling his eyes and body. He began slouching a little, sighing softly. "I hope so... thank you Rafael. That means a lot to me." He smiled a bit.
"You're welcome... now... I've lost one friend today... I'm not losing another so let's get you home and get you to bed." He whispered quietly as he smiled slightly.
Ratchet sighed heavily, glancing at the tracks once more before nodding a little. He began walking to the home once more, rubbing his knee a bit. He felt so tired as he walked back like he had several weights in his shoes. Rafael walked over and carefully held on to his arm. He didn't say anything as he helped his friend head back to the house. He thought about what the man needed to do and what he wanted to do. He sighed shakily as they got home and he led him to his bedroom.
The doctor was completely silent as they walked. When they reached the hall he then jerked a bit. "I should make my family something to eat for when they get back... I'm sure they could be starving."
"Ratchet... it's alright... it's almost midnight, we can make them breakfast in the morning." He said gently and smiled a little. "Let's get some rest." He whispered, trying to reason with him.
The old man blinked and nodded a bit, silently agreeing with the man but his legs didn't move. He stood still, distant for a long moment before finally walking back to his room. He was restless. He wanted to make sure they came in alright. "And... what are you doing? Are you staying?" The old man asked as he began sitting down on his comfortable bed.
Raf furrowed his brow and sat on the side of the bed. "Ratchet... this is my home." He reminded him gently, beingpatient with him. "You, Skye and Bee came over to stay after Airachnid was found here." He whispered and carefully got up. He was concerned for his friend and gently removed the doctors shoes.
The medic paused, blinking. He looked around as Rafael did so, frowning. "Oh... I... suppose I was so in thought I had not noticed..." he muttered and looked down at his feet. Frustrated with himself for not remembering. Once his shoes were off he scooted back a bit, tucking his sock covered feet under blankets. He sat up still and furrowed his eyebrows.
"Do you think we woke your child and wife? I hope we haven't..." he spoke, worried. He didn't want to bother the people letting them stay in their home. He knew they were all family still but it was still their home.
"No, we didn't wake them." He said as he smiled and sat by his side again. "I'll wait up for Riley... she... hasn't come home yet." He said slightly worried and shook his head a little. "But it's okay." He mumbled.
The old man nodded his head, glad they weren't woken. "Do... would you like company?" He asked worriedly for the man. He seemed a bit stressed.
"No... it's alright." He said as he smiled slightly and took his glasses off. He sighed shakily and rubbed his face then put them back on. "I'll be fine. I have a few things to get done anyway. Goodnight..." He said as he looked at him. He smiled again and left the room then closed the door.
Ratchet watched the man then sighed as he was left in the darkness. He began scooting down, grunting a bit as he lifted the covers and brought them to his chin, settling onto his side. He hugged a pillow as he began thinking with a deep frown. He silently laid there, pondering over something. He wasn't sure if he wanted to sleep but soon found himself overtaken by it.
