Double Vision

Multiple Personality Disorder. A known term in mental health and science. An extreme case of bipolar disorder. But what if it wasn't. If instead of just being very bipolar, imagine if you really were 2 different people, in one body. What would it be like, for you?

It is said everyone has something special about them. Some people can manipulate fire, or make ice. Some can see in pitch darkness. Some have titanium bones. Some are just straight up weird. But they all have something special about them.

But not everyone is a one trick pony...

Riley woke up and stretched. He scratched his head and looked into a mirror in his room. A tired, round face looked back. He had thoughtful gold eyes, reflecting his power of Hyper Intelligence. He also had gold hair, and thin, feminine eyelashes.

"It's too early to be smart..." He groaned. "School isn't for another 2 hours... And my homework has been done since I got it... I'm bored..."

Most powers manifest at the age of 6. Some powers, however, you are born with. Riley and his Hyper Intelligence is one example of the latter.

Riley tensed his eyes. He focused for a moment, and something changed.

He opened his eyes. They were still gold, but his hair was far longer. A pair of cat ears wiggled on his head. Riley was now female.

Riley's power changed as a female. She could still change gender at will, a power that appeared at the normal time, but at 4 months later her other power emerged. Being a Neko. Riley had uncanny balance and grace, extremely sharp claws and teeth, and a much better reaction time.

"This is better..." she yawned cheerfully. "Cats are much more of a morning person... Why does that make sense...?" She shrugged, and got changed into her specially made school uniform. Rather than being devote male or female, Riley's outfit was more unisex, as changing genders would not change what she was wearing. And highschool is brutal enough as it is.

Riley meandered downstairs to find her father benching the refrigerator.

"Dammit dad! Again? Seriously?" Riley complained, irritated.

"What? I gotta stay in shape you know." Riley's father said, nonchalant.

"People need to eat in the morning!" Riley said loudly.

"That's a suggestion." Her father replied.

"Every day I swear..." Riley sighed before jumping up and doing a flip to land on top of the refrigerator, to pull out something to have for breakfast. Her father was unfazed.

After eating an entire carton of ice cream, Riley got off the refrigerator. She gathered up her things and changed back into a boy.

"Alright!" Riley said, stretching his legs. "Time for school. I'm pretty sure there's a quiz today. Not that that poses any issue." He walked out the door.

"Be safe hun! And wait 17 seconds before crossing Second Street today!" The mom called.

"Can do. Have a good day. And plug the fridge back in Dad, geez. Bench the truck for once." Riley replied.

On the way to school, Riley ran into one of his two friends, Randell.

"Yo! Randy! Dude! What are you doing?" Riley called.

Randell looked up. "Oh hey! I found another bunch of cigarettes. I'm making new throwing knives. Shame they're so burnt down though... To bad growing pot isn't legal here.

"Your dad still won't buy you any?" Riley asked. "And what happened to the old knives this time?"

"I broke em. You know how hard I train." Randell said.

"That's a lie and we both know it." Riley replied smugly.

"Ok fine. You're too smart dude. I dropped them into the sewers when someone bumped into me." Randell confessed.

"Well, we should get to school. Don't want to be late, do we?" Riley said.

"Maybe you don't..." Randell said, but he followed anyways.
