This Love... Is Definitely Something

Song: Something Big/Shawn Mendes

"Jay. Psssst. Jay, wake up. JAY!!"

I opened an eye in annoyance. "You are a terrible whisperer you know that?"

"Okay so? Get up, I don't wanna miss breakfast. Most important meal of the day."

I hate that dork. Ever since he came to this stupid private school and got put in my dorm, I've had to deal with his annoyance.

He's always happy, always smiling. And he's so freaking loud.

But then again, I can't not love the way his hair bounces when he jumps or how he always has energy no matter what. Or the fact that he's covered in freckles.

And that smile. Oh Jesus that smile. To die for.

"Okay so obviously your not gonna get up so when you do, meet me in the library after breakfast."

"Alright, whatever you say Matt."

I smiled once i heard the door to the door close, meaning the over enthusiastic curly haired boy had left.

My dorm is quiet once again. I love the mornings when he's gone. Or when he's sleeping.

When he's sleeping its my favorite. Cause he looks peaceful and... I can't help but feel my chest flood with some... emotion.

What emotion even is that? What is it?

Possibly relief. That he isn't awake talking my ear off.

Yeah thats it. Relief.

I groaned as i lifted myself out of bed, changing out if my pajamas into the school uniform.

My blazer, shirt, and tie neatly done and my glasses placed on my face. The suddenness of the clear sight was weird adjustment, but i got there.

I made my bed and closed the door. The dorm was small. A living room, a mini kitchen, and two rooms.

Until Matthias came around, that room was always closed. And now it's... yellow.

Yellow and flowery and there's paint everywhere. I have no idea where he came from, but did he have to bring so much happy and sunshine with him?

I grabbed my key and grabbed the back up key with a succulent keychain. "Of course the flower kid forgot his keys."

Locking up my dorm, i debated actually doing what the dork said and meeting at the library after breakfast.

Or since its a Saturday i can go do whatever i want.

Nope. I want to be in the library and he's going to be there so there's no way i can avoid him.

Sneaky little bastard. That was a smart move...

The library was crowded that morning. I forgot how many other nerds were in this hell hole.

I mixed the tie of my uniform and headed to the farthest section of the library. The classics section.

I loved reading old books. Older writers have such a more meaningful and deep way of writing.

"I knew you'd be here."

That voice. That stupidly annoying yet... cute voice.

I turned to look at him, leaning against a bookshelf. This kid is a mess.

His black curls were just everywhere, but it didn't look messy and his uniform was all over the place.

His tie wasn't even done it was just hanging around his neck and his blazer wide open.

How disorganized is he? Actually no, don't answer that. I don't wanna know.

He stood next to me, looking at the rows of books. He's short. "Oh nice classics. I recommend A Tale Of Two Cities if you haven't read it yet."

"You read?" I asked him rather surprised. And such complex books too.

"Of course i read, idiot. I wouldn't be here if I didn't." He responded without even glancing at me.

"Right..." I looked back at the shelf and indeed saw A Tale Of Two Cities.

"So why did you want me to meet you here?" I asked, breaking the silence when he reached for a copy of The Scarlett Letter.

He had a little mischievous smirk on his face. "I want your help to prank the teachers."

"I'm sorry what?"

"Help me. Prank the teachers. It's a sort of initiation thing i do when i get moved to a new school."

I looked at this kid shocked. "How many schools have you been moved to?"

"Thats not important. So whatcha say?" He asked with a bright happy smile on his face.

Do not cave. Do not. Cave.

I caved.

"Alright fine." I answered with a sigh. He did some kind of little cheer which was kinda cute.

"Okay, I've already got it planned. You free next Saturday?"

I nodded. I don't even know why I'm doing this. He's only been here around three months and now I'm helping him get kicked out?

"Awesome. You better be ready. Something big is happening." He said, smirking as he walked off.

What have i gotten myself into?

Next Saturday rolls around faster than I expected and I'm not ready.

I'm laying in my grey toned room debating if its too late to back out of this prank. But i guess it is.

Or maybe i just don't want to back out. The past week we've bonded more than we had in the three months he's been here.

And i still don't know what this feeling is but every time he laughs... It's like a choir of angels. And when he's laughing cause of something i said, it makes me feel... I don't know.

Happy.

"Hey, Evans! Ready for our little prank?" Matthias asked, peaking his head into my very gloomy room.

He is a literal ray of sunshine. He just popped into my room and suddenly it doesn't feel so gloomy anymore.

"What's with the last name?" I mumbled in annoyance as I got up and fixed my tie.

"Felt it was a cool touch to our little mission." He chimed, sitting on my chair and spinning around.

"Alright so what are we doing, Campbell?" I questioned, using his last name.

"Thats a surprise." He said, winking and running out of the room.

"Okay, careful careful. There! Okay, slowly put me down."

It's almost past curfew now and I'm holding up the rather light boy as he places a bucket of something over the door to one of the conference rooms.

How he knew the teachers would all be there i have no clue. But I'm actually really excited about this.

"Okay when i knock. You run. Got it?" He said, obviously trying to contain the excitement in his voice.

"Wait, We're running? Where to?" I asked, frankly a little scared.

"Just run." He said, forcing back a laugh.

I tried to calm my tense nerves as he watched the pale boy knock aggressively on the door.

It was so strange. It all happened so fast.

The minute he knocked, a teacher opened the door and the bucket of paint came crashing down a couple teachers.

Man it was a disaster. But it was hilarious.

The second the teachers recovered from the shock, we ran.

We could just hear the teachers chasing after us screaming and Matthias just kept running.

At some point we got separated, but i just kept running.

I was worried about him getting caught, but currently i was more focused on saving my ass.

I was starting to get tired, but i could still hear them behind me.

I was at a safe enough distance to stop and breathe.

How am i supposed fo get out of this?

As i was about to start running, i got dragged by my sleeve into a broom closet.

"Hey!-"

"Shush."

I froze. He had his finger against my lips, making me quiet.

We heard the angry group of teachers walk by the broom closet we were currently hiding in.

All i could do was keep my eyes on the short boy in front of me. His face was faced towards the door as he was push against me in the small room.

His cerulean blue eyes were filled with mischief as he stared at the door.

Did he always have freckles on his lip...? Its like he was a painting and the used all the paint around his nose and his cheeks and they ran out around the rest of his face...

Matthias smiled when the angry shouts of the teachers started to fade away. His smile is uneven... "Coast is clear."

He turned into look at me and raised a brow in confusion, moving his finger away from my mouth. "You good, Jay?"

I so wanted to let my instincts take over and smash my lips on his soft, freckled ones.

But i couldn't.

I lost track of time for how long we've been in that broom closet before we decide to break the silence.

This emotion... Its been there since he first came to stay at my dorm.

And somehow i still don't know what it is...

"We should... probably head back to the dorm... Before we get caught.." He mumbled, not being to speak louder.

"Yeah.. Yeah we should." I said, not taking my eyes of his lips.

Mattie smiled and took my hand, leading us out back to our dorm.

Feeling his soft, small hand in mine was strange... but warm.

This feeling... It's love. Right?

Right. Yeah, thats it. It has to be it.

Mattie was talking nonsense about how great that prank was and stuff as he struggled with his keys to open the door to our dorm.

"And at the end when i saved you from getting caught, that was great." He said, finally getting the door open.

I so want him to shut up. But his voice is so nice to listen to.

"Anyway, Im exhausted. But that was really fun." He said, smiling. "We should hang out again sometime..."

"Y-Yeah... Maybe... Meet up at the Library and you can give me some more book suggestions?" I asked, bitting my lip.

He smiled that beautiful uneven smile of his and nodded. "Yeah, yeah of course."

We just stared at each other for a while...

"Okay well um... Good night." Mattie said, opening the door to his room and waving.

"Night." I said, a little rushed and waved awkwardly as he closed his door.

Something big is about to happen... And i need to make sure it happens in the right way.
