Chapter 11

The next morning, I was awoken by a knock at the door. I stumbled over and blearily opened the door, "hello?" I yawned, closed my eyes and stretched.
"Wish I could remember what it felt like to be tired" I heard a fairly familiar chuckle sound from the doorway. My eyes popped open and Brian stood in front of me. His ghost, sure, but still. I stared at him with wide eyes and he dissipated in a little puff of white wispy stuff, kind of like clouds. It happened almost instantly and then the real Brian stood in front of me, smiling. "Good morning Marie! How are you this fine morning? I'm glad you're up, I was just about to come get you, our flight leaves in ooh.." he looked over my shoulder at the clock on the wall, "twenty minutes?"
I felt my jaw go slack, "what the heck?"
His smile dimmed and then disappeared, he looked down at me with concern and pity in his eyes. "You'll get breakfast on the plane, I promise, ok?"
I shook my head, nodding, "fine fine, give me five minutes" then I backed up and closed the door on his handsome face. "Ok see you on the plane, Marie!" came the muffled response a couple seconds later, I smiled.
"Oh I was a flirt, back in the day"
I looked over at the ghost of Brian, a bit pale in the morning sunlight. He was sitting on the dresser, looking amused. I padded past him out onto the balcony and opened my face to the sun.
"Does it feel nice?"
I turned to face him, noticing that he'd come out to join me fully visible. I nodded. Then felt something soft encircling my shoulders. He was putting a blanket over me, so I decided to do something in return. I wasn't sure if it was going to work or not but I decided to try. In a second, I'd wrapped my hand around his and was thinking about the sun. Warmth, heat, a summer day shining at its best. And then I smiled as I heard him inhale sharply.
"Thank you" I could hear the smile in his voice. You know, now that I can think back on it, his hand was warm then, held some sign of life.
"So it worked then?" I asked while sliding my eyes to his. He hesitated only a second before nodding, "I'm..my hand feels..." He looked down at his fingers intertwined with mine, "warm".
He said the word like it was something foreign, then he turned his face toward the sun, like he could actually feel the heat on his face. So I turned around and started back toward my room to get going. I guess it was because I'd let go of his hand but as soon as we lost contact he stumbled backwards and his features dimmed a little. I moved back into the hotel room and stopped, there was a suitcase lying on the bed. It was a simple thing that was a deep red color. I walked over and unclasped the latches, opened it slowly. Inside were clothes. The funny thing was they weren't mine. "Uh, Brian?" I called out, which was answered with silence. "Brian?" nothing, my smile faded. Then I turned around and discovered I was by myself.

Ten minutes later found me in a car, squished in between Mick and Keith. I wonder if they remember anything about the kiss? I decided to find out.
"Hey Mick?" I turned away from the window, towards him. "Yes, You're our fashion designer, right?"
I swallowed and nodded as he reached over and shook my hand, "you're Marie, aren't you?"
I nodded again and sat back, looking out the window again.
I guess Brian's memory wipe had affected them all. The city flashed before me and I wondered what was happening back in the future. I guess I really had to do this. The car rounded a corner and the airport was in sight. Sighing, I resigned myself to the fact that this was where I was right now, and probably would be for a while more.
