Running.

For so long all he had done was run. He was sick and tired of it. For four years the red haired boy had been running.

The thing was, he couldn't stop. If he stopped They would catch him. They would take him back. He couldn't go back, not there. Not ever.

Luckily the boy knew he wasn't alone. There were many others like himself, a whole planet full.

Everyone knew how it went. As soon as you turned thirteen you were at risk. You prayed no one got sick and your parents loved you enough to keep you alive. If you were unlucky, which many were, you would be sent away.

There were millions of Harvest camps across the globe and millions of people died every year due to these places. In these camps They would harvest your organs and remove your limbs. They claimed it was for 'the greater good' but They didn't care about anyone.

Everyone had one dream, one hope. To make it to eighteen and stay alive.

Gerard had one year left. One year and he would be safe. One year and he could stop running. But he could never escape the guilt. Because in one year it would all be over. Gerard may be alive but Mikey wasn't.

He had a heart disease that unfortunately couldn't be cured. However because Gerard's parents cared more about Mikey than their eldest son, they were more than happy to send him away.

"Just think about how happy Mikey will be." They said. "He'll have a new life and a fresh start! It's what every child wants."

"Yeah my life!" Gerard had yelled back. "It's my fucking life, my fucking heart and my fucking choice!"

They refused to listen. That night Gerard had packed his bag, ready to jump from the window and fly to freedom.

"Don't go Gee." His brother had begged. "I need you. I don't want you to die."

"Mikes I have too. If I stay I'll die but if I go I may have a chance of survival. They'll find you someone else, they have to and then when I'm eighteen I will come back for you. I promise." Then, with a soft kiss pressed against his brother's cheek, Gerard leapt into the night.

Breathe, move, survive.

The only three thoughts swimming through Frank's mind as he quickened his pace; ducking under low hanging branches as he made his way through the dark and treacherous forest.

He didn't know where he was going, he just knew he had to get away.

Two years ago his parents had shown their true colours and turned against him. Frank's Dad didn't always treat him with the respect, and he had the scars to prove it, but somehow his Mom had turned on him too.

They somehow thought that if he had his organs removed and limbs torn off, it would release the gay in him and he would be 'free.'

Bullshit.

So three hours ago, Frank escaped. With the help of a kind and innocent boy, named Ray, he was able to leave.

However it wasn't a smooth exit like both of them had hoped. Someone had tipped of a guard. Frank had his suspicions and, if he was correct, Bob would pay.

Just two more minutes. He could see the gates, he could taste freedom but the dogs were closing in from all sides.

"We can do this, we can do this." Frank kept telling himself through short, sharp, whispered breaths. Out the corner of his eyes he saw a 'fro bob along side him, a grim smile on his face.

Frank nodded at Ray and smiled before returning his attention back to the gate.

The lights grew brighter which meant they were closer. One dog growled and threw itself at Ray but he was stronger and managed to kick it back. He couldn't hold them back for long.

"Ray! We're almost free, just two more metres and we can run wild." Frank yelled excitedly, speeding up as freedom beckoned him.

He felt a hand grab his arm and a voice whisper four words that would haunt him forever. "Good luck. Remember me."

As Frank's body passed the open gates, gunshots resonated behind him sending a shock through his being. He heard a scream, then a thump, then silence.

Frank had reached the forest alone. He couldn't look back, couldn't go back but couldn't escape the guilt. Ray had given his life up so Frank could live and there was nothing Frank could do in return.

Above him, searchlights shone onto the trees but were unable to pentetrate the thick leaves and dense branches. It was the only moment in which Frank was incredibly grateful for nature.

Panting heavily with a stitch creeping it's way along Frank's stomach, he decided to rest.

His rest consisted of vomiting violently into a bush and then collapsing next to a tree.

Worn out and aching Frank finally allowed himself to cry. All the pent up emotion, anger and pain overflowed, pouring out of his orifices.

His body shook with sobs as wave after wave of emotion washed over him, forcing him to the ground.

Wracked with guilt Frank fell to his hands and knees coughing, crying and choking.

He was too busy focusing on trying to breathe to notice a hand rub gentle circles on his back. It wasn't until he was throwing up again from crying so much that he noticed another presence.

"Hey, hey shh. You're ok, you're safe here."

The black haired boy looked up into a pair of bright eyes. They may have seemed warm and caring on the outside but Frank saw past that and looked within. He saw that they held great despair, pain, misery and guilt. In other words a mirror image of his own.

Frank allowed the beautiful stranger to guide him into an upright position against the scratchy tree bark.

Frank opened his mouth to speak but the boy pressed a rough finger to his chapped and faded lips.

"You don't have to talk. Just relax and breathe. I won't hurt you or turn you in, I'm like you. They won't find us here and that is a promise."

Silently Frank nodded, unable to speak. "We'll start with intriductions shall we? I'm Gerard Way and I'm seventeen. I've been on the run for four years." The stran- Gerard- told him.

To Gerard this boy was interesting. He was young, not a whole lot younger than himself, but his eyes showed it all. He had seen a lot and nothing at the same time.

Frank hadn't been free for long but he had seen more than any teenager should have. Gerard removed his finger and instead placed his hand over Frank's shaking ones, stilling them instantly.

Taking a deep breath and swallowing harshly Frank introduced himself. "I'm Frank Iero, I'm sixteen and I've been running for about three hours. I hate saying I've escaped because technically for another two years, I haven't. You can't beat death, it comes for us all eventually."

The last line was whispered and Frank seemed to close in on himself. There wasn't anything Gerard could do to help.

"What do you mean?" Gerard asked quietly.
"I...I lost someone and it was all my fault." Frank sobbed.

"Me too." Gerard admitted. Frank looked up at him with a questioning gaze.

Gerard sighed and decided to tell Frank everything. For some reason he trusted him and he didn't know why. He never trusted anyone.

"Four years ago we found out that my little brother, Mikey, had heart disease. Naturally my parents were distraught and they did the thing any reasonable parent would do. They signed me up to be sent away and harvested so Mikey could have my heart." Gerard laughed a cold and hollow laugh; his eyes darkened.

"I was selfish. I didn't want to die. I ran away. Of course I thought my parents would be sensible and find another donor but no, they just let him die instead. If I had...if I just..." The tears flowed and Gerard did nothing to stop them. He gave up thinking about what if's. They would never have turned out the way they were planned anyway.

Tentatively Frank reached out a pale hand to wipe the tears from Gerard's face. "It's not your fault. You didn't want to die. Why should you have done? Either way they would have lost a son."

"Now they've lost two." Gerard interjected.

"True. At least you didn't see him die. Gerard, I have something to confess. I am the reason someone was murdered."

Confused Gerard turned to the seemingly innocent boy and raised an eyebrow. "His name was Ray. He helped me out. He planned everything, made distractions, organised it all. He did everything. And now he's dead because I was selfish and didn't want to die. My selfishness caused an innocent boy's death. I'm a monster!"

Gerard was shocked. "You're not a monster. Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but nobody wants to die."

"I can't fear death no longer, I've died a thousand times." Frank finished. "I'm going to Hell anyway." He laughed and sniffled.

"Me too." Gerard smiled. Silence covered them like a blanket but it wasn't awkward. It was peaceful. They were at rest with themselves and with the world.

Frank took the time to really look at Gerard. To see the sharpness and definition in his cheekbones and jawline. To see the sadness in his eyes overpowered with a glint of mischievousness. To see the dirt and mud caking his skin and stuck under his nails. To see the beauty beneath.

Frank took the time to find a friend, someone who could comfort and protect him. Someone he could love.

Gerard's eyes caught Frank's. He saw the same longing for someone to love and to hold that he knew lived in his own pupils. Frank felt his pain and his hope to start anew. Gerard knew what Frank wanted because it was what he wanted.

He wanted to love someone, someone to love him. Frank could be that person. The person to bring him out the dark.

They sat there staring at each other until shouts could be heard in the distance. Startled, Frank's immediate reaction was to curl into Gerard. Not that Gerard was complaining.

He squinted through the dark and scanned for any kind of danger. Light broke through a huddle of bushes, setting off alarm bells in the red head's brain.

"Frank, we gotta go. They're coming." Gerard whispered. Franks head shot up, looking in the same direction. He nodded to himself and stood up.

Gerard's hand still in his firm grip, the two boys looked at each other and nodded.

"For Mikey." Frank said.

"For Ray." Gerard responded.

Hand in hand they did the only thing that would keep them alive.

They ran.

Dark_Raccoon25 is this ok?
