❝rinny❞ ➸ AU! one shot
Rin remembered the day as if it was yesterday. It was an imprint in his head, his memory squeezed every second passing that fateful evening.
It was late autumn, the trees baring little but astrayed orange and yellowed dried leaves. The air wasn't cold enough to let snow grace the ground but it wasn't warm enough for Rin to go out hunting with an exposed face without getting rosed cheeks and nose bridge. It was his favorite time of year--where the animals hurried and rushed before Father Winter came in and froze everything over.
The night was crystal clear, the stars and moon illuminating the trees and his window pane. Rin was restless, as usual, sitting on his bed as he wrapped the thick blankets Mother weaved him for nights such as this. Where the frozen atmosphere could crawl through under the glass frames and haunt his bedroom.
He heard rustling;
Normal rustling, nothing to indicate anything exordinary. It was a calm rustling you would expect from a large animal.
Still, out of sheer curiosity, Rin peered through, wiping his brown hair out of his own eyes. What he saw, however, was far from ordinary.
A giant man, nothing under eight heads tall, standing there, a bunny in his hands. Wolf ears pricked the top of his mop of hair and a tip of a tail peakes from behind a bush.
Rin nearly fainted onto his bed, but he stood up. He rushed to his father's bedside--he knew what he had to do. These things were dangerous, evil even.
His shakey hands and feet snuck bedsides his father. What laied next to the bed was a bow and arrow. It was only used for emergencies. This defiantly was a such event.
Without waking his father or mother (whoms bed were right next to his) he snatched it and ran outside.
He went behind the house. His bare hands quickly tugged on the corase string ang the arrow laid heavy in his hands. The metal and wood pressed tightly and splinted his skin. He blinked and quickly turned around the house, bitting his lip and swallowing his pride. He never thought he would have to do it; murder a half-breed.
Rin turned around, his arrow pulled back until he saw the wolfman closer. His arms held the rabbit close to his thick chest, rocking it back and foruth. His big, fluffy oak toned tail wrapped around his tummy as the bunny hopped away from his grasp. He shook his head and his ears ducked down.
Rin dropped his weapons and his body shook. He couldn't do it. His head was flooded.
Didn't the creatures feel no emotion? How could a beast hold such a small animal with such care without the ability to even feel care? His lip quivered as he approached the beast.
He heard a soft meldoy perice the air. It was a cooning, white noise type of voice that put Rin's heart at ease as he came closer to the monster. The meoldy had words;
"i love you so vivi,
when tomorrow comes along
'bye, bye' is what i'll say
when i turn and walk away
oh, this sleepy little town
with the ashes on the ground
i'll leave it all behind
with thoughts of you and i"
Rin gripped the hay built of his house, still staying a safe distance from the beast, his body shaking and his mind still circling.
Suddenly, the man looked ij his direction and Rin froze. He quickly went to grab his bow but as he stood up, his legs noteably shaking and his tail went inbetween his legs, he went closer. Slow, but close. The wolfman backed away, about to head off back into the forest until Rin broke the silence.
"Wait!"
The wolfman turned around, his body now shaking and he fell to the ground, in a ball covering his head.
Rin approached him closer and closer, barely now running as he was now touching reach. He could reach out and touch his ears if he wished.
The wolfman looked up, revealing the softest face Rin ever saw next to his Mother's.
His eyes were big and blue, as blue as the tears that streamed down. They were soft, made Rin's soul at peace, made his heart slow down. His light pink lips were plump and it contrasted to his naturally dark tan skin and freckled dotted his plump cheeks. His face looked like it belonged on a child but his height looked like a grown man.
He quickly lifted his hand but the wolfman ducked down, his body shaking as he sobbed. Rin took a deep breathe and lightly touched his ear.
It twitched away from Rin's touch but Rin was still persistant.
"I'm so sorry." he spoke and bent his back to reach his head, which wasn't too much since the beast was inhumanly huge. The man looked up and removed his hands from his hand, letting his ears raise up from the tucked position they were in.
"I thought you were a threat," Rin spoke softly, his voice in a whisper as he let his hand gently pat the ear. "But I was wrong. I apologize for scaring you so badly."
The wolfman was now unbundled, his knees against the dark grass and dirt, his body rasing like a flower blossming. Rin was standing up, but the man was already his height by just kneeing.
"What is your name? Where is your home?" Rin spoke, making the man's expression twist from a soft expression back to a soft frown.
He took a stick and moved away the leaves, pressing down with all his might as he wrote. Rin cocked his eyebrow.
"You can speak..." He said, looking at him "You sang."
He ignored Rin and pointed to the ground. Rin kept a smile on his face and looked down.
The two big letters were deep into the dirt. LT
"And..where's your-" He cut himself off, looking at LT's state. His clothes were stained and ripped, he smelled was filthy. He had no one.
Rin grabbed his shoulder and LT looked up, blinking. "Come inside with me."
LT, in a panic, looking left and right to see if it was okay, than stood up. Rin quickly retracted his hand gesture as he grew taller, his legs elevating him up. Rin reached to his belly, which breathe-took him. Rin was a tall boy. A goof five head, seven fingers. He's felt short around people such as his parents, but never felt small.
LT pointed as his chest, his tail wagging. His lips tugged at the ends of his lips to reveal giant canines that could rip through Rin's flesh. Rin shivered but looked up nonetheless.
"Yes, you."
He started to walk back to his house with a happy LT to follow him, his tail wagging and his legs practically skipping to his house. His eyes were wide as Rin quickly made it to his house, pushing the door gently. LT tried to do the same with no avail.
His head bashed against the top, causing him to fall on his behind and Rin looked over to his parents. They were now awake.
Mother looked beyond suprised--her eyes widen as she stood up ans walked over, asking what was going on.
Father woke up mildly irritated but as he saw LT, he gave a soft sigh and bit his lip.
LT's tail tugged inbetween his legs as his legs wobbled again. Rin looked over at the two of them and breathed in, holding the crossbow.
"Rin, why do you have that!" Father said and walked over with worry, taking it from Rin's grasp and looked over at the now terrorfied LT who was looking down.
Mother looked down to the floorboards, her gaze being directed at Rin only.
"Ma,Pa.." He swallowed and rubbed his arm. "Can..can we let LT stay here?"
Mother gave a soft smile. "Of course, I don't think that's an issue for him to stay here." she said with a peaced smile. His father grabbed his hand.
"For what, Rin." His voice was corase and harsh to Rin's ears. "For how long? Do you not understand how dangerous-"
"He won't hurt us!" He said and held his hands together, his eyes watering up.
Mother looked over at father and tugged a piece of hair behind her ear. "I think your father meant the village's reaction."
"Not exactly, Krys." He said. "How do you know he means well, Rin? It could be manipulating you."
"Light, let LT stay the night and see how that goes."
"One night could kill us!"
"He'll stay behind the house where the old workshop would be. Give it a chance, you don't know."
Rin looked over at the LT who still sat there, his head hanging and his legs crossed in the doorway. Rin looked at his feet.
His father could be right. He-or it- could be using Rin. Maybe he was smart. But what he did, what he did before he was even aware of Rin, it was pure. He was pure. He would've mauled it if he was a true wolf. He wasn't a true wolf. He had a heart. He felt it. But again, his emotions could be wronging him.
"Fine." His father finally said, sighing. Rin gave a bright smile in reply of that and rushed to LT, kneeling down to him despite being very much so crouched enough to reach his face without crouching himself.
Rin explained it to him, and that's where LT stayed. In the old worn out workshop that Rin laid his blanket on and slept with him in besides his Father's wishes. He wanted to make sure no one saw LT.
And one night turned to two, and two turned to three. It was soon ritual--LT from a long day sat outside the old shed and Rin always let him in. They (by they, Rin) talked and talked and LT after a while started to sing for him, but never speak. He didn't want to show how he spoke. He wrote down it was the voice of a monster, and he wasn't such. He wanted to be human and to be human meant to not speak.
Father warmed up to him, his antics were small to none and he gave a show for both Father and Mother. Every night when the village was asleep, the familt was awake with LT and Rin singing or dancing for Mother and Father, Rin too excite (and nervous for LT's will) to wait till morning. Mother dubbed him "Gentle Giant". Father said nothing fitted him better
One day, LT came alongside Rin to go to the center city of Rosepilly, where the Castle laid. People bustled and ran, the children giggled and desperate sell-outs tried to market potions with false names to them. Farmers selled goods and the ladies (or in one case, a young boy) sold jewelry and trinkets that were handcrafted.
LT tied a hood tightly around his head and tucked his tail in his pants and Rin was laughing and giggling the entire time. Rin could never be sad around LT. He always had a giddy feeling in his chest and his heart was always in the cloud as he walked and talked to LT. He wished LT would speak but he knew it was harder than that for the boy so he did not speak of it.
It was going wonderful. LT was smiling, Rin was giggling, but a small girl's cry caused everyone to look at the duo.
"Momma! Momma! It's the Big Bad Wolf! I see the tail near his shoe!"
Rin looked over, his mouth agaped and narrowed his eyes. "Little girl, be careful with your eyes. They are fooling you."
"No!" She screamed and the mother looked to where her finger pointed and she fainted. LT looked over ar Rin who was grabbed LT's hand tighter than ever and pulled him back.
"T, we have to go." He said and ran back, LT following him.
"It's the creature from the woods!"
"Young man, run away! He's gonna eat you whole I say, whole!"
"Daddy, daddy! It's the wolf from the stories you've told me!"
Rin couldn't of waited faster to return back to the village, but they heard. Rin heard their whispering and their stares shot through like Father's arrows.
LT grabbed his hand tighter, sweat pouring from his palm.
Rin went to the house through the back door so no one saw them. LT didn't walk in.
"LT?"
The man blinked and grabbed Rin's shoulder. He looked at him straight in the eyes and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead.
"I must go. I don't want to bring damage to your family." his voice was sickly sweet and lisped, contrasting to his brick face.
Rin stood there, his body trembling and his eyes curling up. "You..you spoke! You spoke to me in the first time since I met you and you're gonna leave?" He stepped down from the backdoor. He looked up to the man who crossed his arms around his chest.
LT kneeled on one knee and hugged him close to Rin's chest. Rin was stunned. His body was now still and he looked over to the , the tears shirlving up.
"You..you cannot be serious?" Rin hoped, smiling and nudged his elbow. He gave a force laugh but LT kept a stern expression.
"I'm sorry but I-I'm not joking." LT said and looked Rin in the eyes. "I don't want to harm you."
"One more night." Rin said, tears now pouring down his face. "One more night and than I let you go."
The night was filled with awkward silence--strange considering LT's new found speech. Rin held LT's hand the entire time and rested his head on arm, trying not to cry.
"I.." Rin spoke. "I love you."
He looked around the dusty shed, tugging LT's tunic as he looked down at Rin.
"I adore you, Rin." He said and started to cry, holding the boy's tiny body, grasping his soft fabric. "That's w-why I have to go."
"I'll keep you a secret, I can do it!"
"It's no one's fault that i have been revealed but mine. Don't blame yourself."
"I'm not blaming anyone because it can be fixed!" His body was trembling now as LT rocked him, his arms around his arms and his face rested against Rin's upper shoulder. Rin started to softly sob.
His heart wad shattered beyond saving. He was loosing him. The boy he showed loved to was leaving his hands and he couldn't do anything. If he kept him back this wouldn't happen, if he kept him at home he would still be here tomorrow when Rin woke up. He would be able to hear his voice more and he would be able to tell him how much he loved him.
Soon, the sun peeked from under the shed and LT stoof up and opened the door a crack. Rin stood up and gripped onto LT's leg.
"Please!" His voice screeched, his nails digging into his pants and his hair stuck to his face. LT looked down and lifted Rin up, holding him like a newborn baby. This was the first--and last--time LT ever held him.
He pressed his forehead to Rin's.
"i love you so rinny,
when tomorrow comes along
'bye, bye' is what i'll say
when i turn and walk away
oh, this sleepy little town
with the ashes on the ground
i'll leave it all behind
with thoughts of you and i
oh i let all those words out
and finally felt such
and depsite all that
i still feel nothing at
oh, i love you so rinny
i love you so rinny
say goodbye to me rinny
i guess that's all it comes to."
