Part One; Chapter One, Blind Shadow

Chapter One: You're beautiful...

JEFF THE KILLER'S POINT OF VIEW ♔

I starred down that crowded school and watched as the people scattered around the place when the bell rang.

Pathetic.

Those oblivious animals are nothing but prey to me. That's why I'm searching this school which seemed to be a place for oblivion. I looked through every student, blonde, brunette, emo, red head, bimbo, they had it all. I'm just waiting for the perfect victim that'll be begging for death.

I want some person who has a shitty life because they'll be begging to welcome death in their arms. Mainly because I always come across people who would beg for me to spare their scrawny lives. I'm looking for someone so oblivious and delinquent, so torturing them would make them beg for their end.

The high school bell rang indicating that another class has ended, making them rush out the doors for the last period. The sun is halfway from setting and I plan to kill one of them by nightfall.

I kept my grip into the oak tree tight as I waited from behind the school to wait for another hour.

I'm not a patient person but the wait is worth it, I guess.

Minutes have passed and I lay on the branch with one hand on my head and the other one playing with my knife, humming a reckless tune that came out of my mind. The birds chirped and hopped against one branch to the other and it annoyed me as fuck. The leaves were rustling due to late fall and animals scurry along the yard.

The earth is a petty excuse for a planet. All the corruption and war in claiming countries sickens me. It's not like any of these places are worth battling for. The earth sucks, the people sucks, the air sucks, everything sucks. Life sucks, too.

As I was groaning for every single thing I dread in this universe the school's back door opened, and leaves rustle notifying me that one of the students came out. Since I was hanging in the low part of the tree, I am totally at viewing point.

I waited for an ear piercing scream of either a boy or a girl, before the sound of that person running to the door. I waited for some reaction from the person since I continued my gaze to the blinding sky,

But surprisingly none came.

Somewhat baffled, I glanced to where the intruder was, only to find a girl sitting under the tree plugging in headphones and putting out a thick book. She has Burgundy Red hair, and it somewhat looked natural since it's red to the tips. She braided it which, in my view, emphasized the big round glasses she wore. I didn't catch her face on her way here and she was just three feet above from someone who could kill her.

Why didn't she notice me? It's not every day you see a serial killer known over the world with a huge smile and a pale face hanging around a tree, and she just sat down the tree like nothing is there above it? Was she blind? Or just plain dumb?

Well the first option was proven right when the girl opened the large book she took out earlier she ran her hands around the completely blank, but carved pages of the book.

Whoa, she's blind.

This is the first time I've encountered a person that doesn't have the ability to see. That'll be easier for me to kill her once she can't see anything. But what about the chase? She can't run and she can't be terrified of me once she can't see my appearance. That'll be a complete disadvantage.

But nonetheless, I decided to get rid of her. I jumped off the tree and landed on the ground with the crunching of leaves, cursing this season for not being so quiet.
Stupid dead leaves, dead corpses are quieter to walk on.

Clutching my weapon tightly, I crept to her front until I was in full view of her face.

She has black eyes staring into nothingness as she traced her hands over the carved letters on the book. She was pale and white as if she never experienced the heat of the sun, which made the freckles around her nose visibly obvious.

She could be considered pretty if only she doesn't have those large ugly glasses. But then again, she is one of those petty humans who deserve to die. And since her sight is impaired, she wouldn't mind me replacing her eyeballs with rocks, then I'll take a Sharpie and draw dots at the center for the pupils. God, she'll be so beautiful....

I was cut off from my sadistic thoughts when the girl finally spoke, startling me a bit.

"I can sense you, you know, " she said, standing up and putting the book in her bag. "I know you're there. "

I was taken back, surprised at he calm tone. Or maybe, she doesn't know who I am yet. An English accent was present at the sound of her voice, which just added to the small mountain of interest I had over her. I couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you blind? "

"You're voice is fascinating, how deep and groggy it is like you never drank water in ten years, " she smiled, "But yes, I'm blind. But having one of your senses fail, it could heighten your other senses. "

I didn't reply. She seemed too oblivious, too mundane for my liking.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to introduce myself, " she said, clutching her books tightly. "My name is Red. It's short for Roxanne Emily Diana. What's yours? "

I kept quiet, not saying a word.

"Why don't you answer? I can hear your breathing, you know, " she said. I couldn't answer right. Like her eyes, mine seemed hypnotized too. I tried raising the knife, but my arm doesn't seem to be connected to my brain.

"Perhaps you're shy, huh? ".she stated, "Me too. Because of my shyness, I don't get any friends. We could be friends, you know. "

Wait, why am I letting her talk to me without any ounce of fear? Why am I letting her talk to me like a civil person?

"I don't think you'd like a friend like me, " I finally answered, forgetting the questions that roamed around my head earlier.

Her face lit up, maybe because I finally answered back. "Well, I don't have the right to judge because I'm not perfect. And one of the reasons are I'm blind. "

This girl is so clueless and innocent, it mentally hurts me to even swear in front of her. She's smiling as if I'm a normal high school boy. Does she even know the danger she's bringing to herself? It's like a small mice trying to be friends with a dragon who can breath out all the elements of the earth; and I have no other words to describe her oblivion.

"You know, even if your face is obliterated, I am in no position to judge," she said, reaching her hand out, "So, friends? "

Even if she lost her sight, I can still see excitement and hope dancing around her black irises. Her voice rose to the point where I almost accepted, but I didn't get to answer because the bell rang.

"I have to go, " she excused, keeping her hand back. "If you won't tell me your name, I'll call you Shadow then, " she cheered before disappearing completely out of my sight.

I didn't waste time. I followed Red, walking somewhat quietly along the trees from the woods beside the road. The sun has halfway set, so her Burgundy hair is more of a brownish color now.

What if I told her I'm a killer? Would she run, scream, or panic? After all, she is mundane and might not know the dangers of talking to strangers. Now look at what she had done, she made a killer follow her like a trained dog.

I could've killed her the minute she sat under the tree. Yet here I am, being drawn to her oblivious facade. Curiosity is truly a bitch.

But she's blind, right? How can she walk this far without getting lost?

I sighed, another mystery to figure out...

I hid behind a redwood tree when she stopped abruptly, and I fear she could sense my presence.

You sound like a pussy, Jeff.

But I was startled when the girl spoke, "I can sense you Shadow. Do you really need to follow me home? "

I can hear the playfulness laced around her voice, almost seem like mocking me. I finally stepped out of the woods as she continued her walk.

"How can you suppose to go to your house when you're.... that? " I can't help but to ask that one.

"I count the steps, Shadow. "

"I have a name you know, " I snapped, but she didn't seem to be taken back.

"Then if you'd tell me your name, I wouldn't have to label different names to you. "

"My name is Jeff. And I'm a killer, from what others say, " I reply bluntly. I was expecting the expected. I expected the look on her face, her stumbled escape, and her ear piercing scream.

But like earlier, none came. Instead she stopped, craning her neck to my side without looking at me.

"And you expect me to be afraid of the Jeff the Killer, right? " she said.

"Aren't you? "

She just shrugged, continuing her walk once more. Now I'm really curious about this girl. First she's oblivious, and now she's immune to utter fear. Like really, she just walked around confidently with a killer who can end her life.

"I'm not afraid. I don't want to die, but if I'm going to, who am I to stop it? I am a mere human after all. And even though rumors say that you're a walking dead, dead or not you are still considered as a human once you walk this earth. "

Human? Me? I am not one of those weaklings who inhabit this earth. But then again, I still inhabit this earth.

"What's your point? " I asked quietly.

"I am not one to stop fate. If my fate is being buried six feet under the ground before my seventeenth birthday, than what can I do, " she shrugged. After that Red stopped abruptly, "This is our house, "

I glanced to the house across the street, and sure enough there stands a white mansion that brought a luxurious look to the bald trees caused by fall. The railings were high and so was the gate, but it didn't hide the mansion's huge area behind them.

"You live here? " I asked, and she nodded. "I'm sure a mansion like this would have a car or two. Why don't you let them drive you instead of walking all the way to school and back? "

Oh crap, I'm talking to my victim like a civil person. What the fuck is wrong with me?

Red smiled, "I'm not going to waste my only time for physical exercise. And this happen to be one of those activities. "

She turned to my side, "I have to be going, now. Nice to meet you, Jeff. And please don't involve my family into this," surprisingly, she moved closer.

"Can I touch your face, " she requested.

The question stopped me, and I can almost sense her curiosity and desperate need for her request. So I just say a simple Okay.

She reached out to touch my forehead, then cupped the sides of my face. She trailed her scented hand (which smelt of strawberry and vanilla) down my features and she raised her eyebrows when she felt my eyes; which didn't have eyelids. The same goes for my smile, which she silently gasped at. I know she can define my burnt leather face, but what did stunned me was those words she said, "You're beautiful... "

Those words, I had always told myself those words. Yet I have never heard someone say it to me, especially someone who can't see clearly.

I was stunned yet I kept my gaze in her emotionless eyes. Her soul was pure, it was innocent. Not what most people have. Some do but other's are as corrupted as mine. And I couldn't help but feel closure to her.

After thanking me, Red crossed the street to her hou--mansion. But when she reached the gate she turned to me "Can we still be friends, Jeff? "

"Yeah, " I said in a tone barely above a whisper, "Sure we can. "

"Bye Jeff! "

"Bye... Red. "

Red seemed to be different, complete and utterly different from the rest of the world. And maybe.... maybe she'll be the only exception....
