Chapter Four: These Babies Are Much More Powerful Than Your Knife
♔ JEFF THE KILLER'S POINT OF VIEW ♔
"I feel so damn powerful. "
"Oh God, here we go. "
"It's like I could beat everyone in a beauty contest. "
"Red? "
"Yes, Jeffrey? "
"Just because you're wearing Long Fake nails doesn't mean you're the queen. "
She punches me, "Kill joy, " she muttered. "But really though, I can feel the power radiating off my nails. "
"Bitch, please, I'm the powerful one, " I groaned dumping my body down to the bed. She slowly stood up and made her way to her big canopy bed, taking a pillow from it's place. She sat cross legged beside me and slashed her fake nails at my face. "Ouch! What was that for?! "
"See? These babies are much more powerful than your knife. "
I chuckled, "Whatever you say, princess. "
"You're so irrational. "
"Tell me something I don't know. "
"Well did you know that right now my magical nails can rid you from your leg? "
I sat up, laughing very hard on her statement. This girl is so convenient, I almost forget to give her much credit on her remarks. "Just get rid of those stuff, Red. "
She scoffed, "As if. "
She slumped down the headboard and snatched the remote from the side table, immediately turning the television on. She switched the channel several times until she heard the familiar Disney channel, and it almost made me puke when she decided to settle in a Disney movie.
"Really, Red? You're already sixteen and you still watch crap? " I asked. She slashed her nails against my arm once more (which obviously hurt because I'm only wearing one of her shirts which obviously smelt of strawberries), making me flinch.
"Hey, Smiley. Just because I'm nearing adulthood doesn't mean I'm not fit to watch Disney channels. It basically just showed that I'm young at heart. Not like you, Oldie. "
I gasped, hand on my chest. "I'm already nineteen! "
She chuckled, "Oldie. Now shut up and watch the movie so you can tell me the details later. "
I smirked, "You know, I almost forgot you were blind. "
"How so?"
"You're a bit... smart and ...whenever I can't see your unfocused eyes, I always forget you can't see," I answered, diverting my attention to the screen, playing a scene from a Disney movie called Aladin.
"Bit? A bit smart? Please, Jeff I have straight A's. Except Gym, I don't really excel in that subject. "
Silence followed, and I am sure she is listening intently to the movie. The lights were turned off (not like she'll need the light) and the only source of light is radiating from the TV monitor. The scene is currently when the genie told that boy he was getting his wishes, and somehow I felt Red tense beside me, her eyebrows knitted in confusion, as well as sympathy. "You can relate to that movie, do you, " I said.
She nodded. I asked her, "Well what are your wishes? "
She sighed deeply, almost hesitant if she should say something or not. "Remember when yesterday, I tensed and felt uneasy when you mentioned nature? "
I hummed in response.
"I want to see nature. That is my wish. I want to see what colors look like, what trees look like. I want to see the physical beauty of the world. I want to be free from the darkness, Jeff. I... I wish I can see, " her voice broke into a fit of sobs. "I'll do anything, I'll give up anything just to have one day to define the colors of the earth. I'd give up anything to live a normal life. "
"Why don't you ask your parents? Surely the technology today would allow the blind to see. "
"My parents already tried. When I was fourteen we moved from England to this state. It was a chance for me to do the operation. I was so excited, but then.... " she paused, tears became evident in her eyes. I wonder what happened. There couldn't be anything disappointing that happened to them, right?
"But then what? " I asked.
"There is a small chance that they'll be complications. The side effects, either hair loss, internal bleeding, organ failure, or.... eye color draining. It means my eyes will be completely white. My Mum couldn't take that and she said it'd be better if I stay blind and healthy than to suffer that kind of side effects. But not only because of the side effects my parents were worried about....
"There's an eighty eight percent me... not making through the pain. There's that many percent I'll..... die. "
A gasp escaped my lips as the thought of Red's cold body lying in her deathbed, but it came only as a jaw drop. Maybe it's a good thing she chose to be blind. Maybe she shouldn't risk doing the surgery. Man, I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
I brushed those off, continuing the movie while Red cried in a silent sob. It kills me to see her like this. Yes, I am a cold hearted killer and I'm not supposed to feel pity towards this girl. But I can't help it when she crawls her way to my life, and somehow the idea of her dying angers me. Her pain is my pain. And I could almost feel it now.
"What happened? " she suddenly asked, "Where did Jasmine go? "
I focused on the screen, it was the part where that dude with the long pointed beard pretended to be the princess. "Jafar pretended to be Jasmine and accused the boy of killing the princess's father, therefore having him killed. "
She gasped, and I instantly looked her way. She was so cute at her position, sitting Indian style with her mouth gaped open and eyes focused on the screen, only that she really isn't seeing it.
"Uhm...would you... like anything to eat? " I offered. She nodded and answered, "Yeah, sure. Strawberry and chocolates? "
"What's with you and strawberries? " I chuckled, finally asking her the question. I don't get why she likes them. They're sour and not even close to sweet. I guess Red is just full of surprises.
"Strawberries are heavenly. You wouldn't understand, you're an Oldie. "
"Red, I'm two years older than you, " I pointed out.
"Hence my point. "
I chuckled while climbing out of the bed, making my way out of her bedroom door into the large hallways. I'm not worried of getting lost in these hallways. Red's door is the only door that's red. The rest is a cream color. I went down four flights of stairs into the large kitchen. The whole place is huge, but not gigantic enough to be considered a castle.
The kitchen has the complete set of tools, raging from small butter knives to large ovens.
You may wonder why this mansion has no Maids, well there are servants here. But whenever Red's parents are out, the service crew goes with them. How? I don't know. All I know is that Red despise servants. Because she wants to do everything herself. But because of her..... state, she has no choice but to let them baby her. Poor Red.
Going back to business, I opened the white refrigerator and immediately spotted the red and pink strawberries, grabbing them along with the chocolate cream on the counter. I also decided to take the large set of waffles and and butter, just so I won't have to torture myself in trying to snack one of the fruits.
I was on my way towards the stairs when suddenly, I heard several cars stopping by the driveway. I peaked outside, and sure enough it was Red's parents along with all their twelve servants.
"Do you think we should enroll her in Oxford University? " A woman's voice with an English accent chirped, and in seconds I instantly knew it was her mother.
"What about New York? Or maybe in Manchester... " a male voice said but it faded when they went to unlocking the door.
"Shit, " I cursed, taking the bowls and running upstairs to Red's room on the fourth floor. Kind of tiring really, but my identity is at risk here.
"Roxanne, we're home! " a woman's voice called out. I rushed to get on the fourth floor, slamming Red's door shut as the voice neared.
"Red, your parents are here! " I hissed.
She tensed after reaching out to grab me, "Quick, take me to the bathroom! "
I wasted no time, pushing her to the black door with purple lilies and locking ourselves there. Her bathroom was big, as it has a combination of purple and gold lining around the tiles. Just your typical en suite, only with a large mirror despite it's owner's condition.
My heart beated furiously at the sound of the bedroom doors open, and I can't help but feel fear to what would happen when Red's parents found out she's been seeing a serial killer. No, I'm not afraid of two mundane humans, I'm afraid that they'll take Red away from me. She's my friend and I don't want to loose her. Hence why I'm shaking like a wet dog in winter.
British references? Check.
"Red? Where are you? " her mother yelled.
I nudge the redhead beside me, clearly waiting for her valid excuse. "Uhm...I'm here at the bathroom, Mum! I'll be out in a minute! "
"Well are you okay in there? "
"Yes it's just... uhm...." I glanced at her and she seemed to be frantically out of sassy words to say. But then, "I'm on my.... mother nature.... thingy. "
I can't help but clutch my stomach to silence my laughs. That was a dumb excuse. "Well, let's see if you have any better ones! " she hissed as if reading my mind.
"I don't! " I hissed back.
"Well do you need any tampons? " Her mom yelled. I chuckled quietly as I cursed jokingly, earning a glare from Red.
"Y... Yeah Mum! I need more... can you.... get some for me? " she yelled.
"Sure thing, honey! I'll ask the maids to get you some! "
As soon as the bedroom door closed, Red pushed me off the bathroom and into the window, where I stealthily slipped down as there were guards guarding the perimeter. I mouthed, "Bye Red! " and she did nothing but shoo me away jokingly.
Too bad I didn't get to eat those waffles.
[Author's Note: Please keep in mind that Red being blind and Jeff being friendly with her is not the plot. This is just the tip of the iceberg, and the real plot hasn't happened yet. And sorry if this Chapter was rushed. ]
