Chapter Six

In the town, outside a gigantic building, a large amount of people crowded beside a sign. It was titled, 'Festival of Fools' below it said, 'Happening Today!' all of it was written in large cursive letters. Most people seemed surprised by it. "Again?" A man murmured to himself. Jim glanced over at the man. "Have you seen?" The man spoke to a woman.

"Oh my. Not another one." She commented as Jim made his way to the front of the crowd. Lilo was currently trying not to get lost. The crowd continued to talk.

"At least it's a different show this time." A random person in the crowd said. Jim looked around, not sure what was happening.

"Agreed. They have Esmeralda, too. This might actually be good show." Someone responded to the person. Jim glanced at the sign, silently reading it.

Joining them will be special guests Dancer Esmeralda and Jester Clopin from their best selling play yet, "The Sheppard's Journal".

Jim rubbed his chin slightly, thinking. Lilo looked up at him. "Jim, we don't have to leave yet, right?" She asked. Her eyes were full of innocence. "Can we stay and watch the show?" Jim wasn't sure how to respond. She looked adorable, and innocent.

"Well, uh. . ." His voice trailed off and unsurely. He tried coming up with an answer.

"Pleeeeease?" She begged, looking up at him with puppy dog eyes.

"I don't see why not." Jim decided with a shrug and a slight grin.

"Really?" Lilo asked looking up at him with surprise. "This is going to be amazing!" She exclaimed, clearly excited. Jim chuckled and shook his head before glancing to the right, that's where Cinderella and Anya were standing.

"I'm going to go tell Cindy and Anya, okay?" He questioned. "Stay there. I'll be two seconds." He promised as he made his way over to Cinderella and Anya. Lilo looked up at the sign, she smiled slightly. Her eyes lingered on the word dancer. Lilo started dancing slightly. A young woman started approaching her. She had thick raven hair that went down to her shoulders. She had a pink bandana going through it and wore one gold hoop earring. Her lips were a neutural color, however they held a slightly red tint to it. Her eyes were a stunning emerald green. She wore a white shirt, paired with a greenish blue corset. It had gold lines going over it. She had on a purple sash tied around her waist. The sash itself had a gold trim. Attatched to the sash, were fake gold coins. They jingled as she walked. She also wore a long, light purple skirt.  She studied Lilo, eyes filled with curiosity. She took a few more steps forward, this caused Lilo to end up bumping into her in the middle of a spin. Lilo fell to the ground with a thunp.

"I'm sorry." She apologized sincerely, gazing down at her. She leaned down to Lilos height. "I didn't mean to run into you." The woman said honestly.

Lilo looked up at her. "That's okay. I'm alright." Lilo reassured. Esmeralda grinned over at her.

"That's good to hear." Esmeralda nodded her head. They were interrupted by a voice.

"Well, ma soeur." His voice rang out. "Who is this you have here?" He asked, stopping beside them. He had black hair, and a black goatee. His eyes were a very dark brown, looking black. He also had on a golden hoop earring. Atop his head was a light purple hat. In that hat, was a golden feather. He also had on black gloves. He was dressed like a jester, his outfit had a purple and black color scheme. Except for his shoes, which were a light brown.

"I accept bumped into-" She paused as she came to a sudden realization. She hadn't learned the smaller girl's name. "Know what? I didn't ask your name right." She said.

"Lilo." She told the woman.

"I'm Esmeralda and this is Clopin." She introduced herself and her friend.

"Hi." Lilo offered the pair a shy wave.

"Actually. . ." Esmeralda's voice trailed off. "We're short one dancer for our performance." Esmeralda said, standing back up. "And I saw you dancing earlier. . ." She hinted and Lilo smiled. "What do you say?" Esmeralda asked her. "Want to dance with us?" She offered, hoping the girl would say yes. She had talent. Lilo looked up at her in surprise.

"Yeah!" Lilo exclaimed happily.

Meanwhile, Cindy and Anya were talking as Jim approached the pair. "Cindy, you know your. . ." Her voice trailed off as she looked up at Cinderella, pausing. Cinderella looked at her expectantly. "Your birthday is coming pretty soon." Anya said.

"I know." Cinderella nodded her head. Anya glanced up at her, raising an eyebrow.

"What are we going to do?" Anya questioned her. Cinderella honestly, wasn't quite sure.

"I don't know." She answered. Jim walked up to the pair and she smiled. "Hi there, Jim." Cinderella greeted.

"Hi, Cindy." Jim said back. Anya glanced over at him. "Hey, have you seen the poster over there?" He asked the pair.

"About the festival? Yes, I have." Cinderella nodded her head.

"Well, Lilo wants to go see it. And I told her she could." Jim stated. Anya gazed at him in curiosity before nodding.

"We can all go." Anya decided. Jim looked up at her and his eyes widened as he finally realized the makeover she'd gotten. She had on the sky blue dress from earlier, paired with her locket. She had on a brown belt with it. Her hair was put up in a low ponytail, tied up with a blue how. Her hair was lightly curled at the bottom. She looked stunning. Anya tilted her head slightly, not understanding why he was staring at her. "You okay?" Anya asked him. Jim looked up in surprise, snapping out of his thoughts.

"Huh?" He rubbed his temples slightly. "Oh yeah, I'm fine." He reassured.

"Jim, wasn't Lilo walking around with you?" Cinderella asked.

"She's over by the poster." Jim stated, pointing to the place where the poster was hanging. Cinderella looked over in that direction.

"I don't see her." Cinderella said. Jim's eyes widened and he quickly looked over. She was no where in sight.

"No, no. She was just there." Jim's voice held disbelief but he was starting to freak out. Had he lost her?

"Jim." Cinderella started.

"I know she was." Jim stated. He continued looking over in that direction, as if suddenly hoping she would appear.

"Find her. Now." Cinderella ordered, it definitely wasn't a suggestion. Jim didn't say anything at all, clearly still freaked out.

The Festival of Fools' had finally started. Clopin walked out, leading a crowd of people. Confetti burst into the air. People were drinking beer, and playing music. Everything was topsy turvy though. Esmeralda stood in her tent. She cracked it only for a brief moment, watching the performances going on outside. She shut it, before glancing over at Lilo. "Almost ready?" She asked. Lilo walked out.

"Yep." Lilo had on a Hawaiian outside. She had a grass skirt and everything. In her hands was a tiki mask.

"Look at you." Lilo smiled up at her. "You look great." She said before Lilos smile fell. "What's wrong? Are you okay?" Esmeralda asked out of concern as she noticed her frown. Lilo looked down and didn't say anything. Esmeralda gave her a stern look. Esmeralda grabbed a light pink Hawaiian flower before holding it out to Lilo. "Here." She offered it. Lilo gently accepted the flower. She gazed down at it. Her frown slowly became a smile. "Don't worry. You'll be fine." Esmeralda reassured. She assumed all of this was because the girl had stage fright. Right? Or was there another reason? Lilo held her head up proudly, the flower tucked in her hair. She then, walked out.

Meanwhile ...

Jim ran a hand through his hair. He couldn't find Lilo anywhere. Where could she possibly be? He couldn't help but blame himself for this. He should've watched her more carefully. He was starting to lose hope. "Where are you?" He spoke to himself quietly. He leaned against the wall, exhausted.

Clopin stood on stage. He now had on a violet colored mask with a gold trim. His earing shined brightly in the son. "Welcome everyone, to the Festival of Fool's!" He yelled to the crowd. "You all ready for some dancing?" He asked. The crowd cheered and ran up to the stage. Clearly their answers were a yes. "Then get ready for our beautiful dancer Esmeralda. . ." His voice trailed off slightly. Cinderella and Anya, along with Jim watched the stage. Well, mostly Cinderella and Anya. Jim was kind of just frowning towards the floor. "And special guest. . ." Clopin added. Jim looked up, at the stage finally. "Hula Lilo!" He announced. Cinderella gasped in surprise.

"Lilo?" She questioned. Jim's eyes widened as well. Was he hearing correctly? Maybe there was another Lilo.

"Now, let the presentation. . ." Clopins voice rang through the air. "Begin!" He shouted, and with a puff of pink smoke he was gone. Both Esmeralda and Lilo were now on stage. Esmeralda was in different clothing though. She was wearing a bright red dress, it clung to her body and made her look desirable. The sleeves were see through, and a light pink color. Across her waist was a purple sash, not the same one as before though. She had on a golden head and and tiara. In her hands was a tambarine. It had a light blue sash tied to it. Anya gazed up at the stage in shock. Esmeralda and Lilo started dancing. Jim started running up to the stage. Lilo saw him and smiled. Esmeralda did the splits before gazing into the audience. She locked eyes with Cinderella, and winked. Cinderella looked up at her in surprise. Esmeralda took a spear from a nearby guard and started running. She stuck it in the ground and spun around it, before landing and striking a pose. Lilo striked her pose as well. The crowd threw coins on to the stage, applauding. Their cheers were deafening. Jim continued to stare up at the stage.

"You're okay. . ." He mumbled softly to himself.

After the festival, Esmeralda stood with Lilo in the town. "I'll be back kay?" She asked. "I need to put my clothes in the tent." Esmeralda explained. Lilo nodded as Esmeralda walked away.

"Lilo!" Cinderella's voice cried out. Lilo looked over and smiled brightly.

"Cindy! Did you see me dance?" Lilo asked.

"Why didn't you tell us this was where you were?" She questioned, slightly scolding her. "Do you realize how scared we all were?" She asked. "Jim was looking for you everywhere." She stated. Jim was leaning against the wall, he glanced over but said nothing. "And Anya and I didn't know what to do." Lilos smile faded and she frowned, feeling guilty. "What if something terrible happened?" Cinderella questioned. Esmeralda exited her tent, frowning at the sight.

"Hey." She spoke up. Lilo looked over at her. "Who are you?" Esmeralda questioned, raising an eyebrow and gesturing to Cinderella. Cinderella looked up at her and her eyes widened. That was the girl who had winked at her. Esmeralda grinned slightly as Cinderella suddenly got really timid.

"Cinderella." She introduced herself softly. Esmeralda looked her up and down, remembering her. She'd winked at her. "We all belong to the same orphanage." Cinderella explained.

"You're in an orphanage?" Esmeralda questioned. "That's a shame." Esmeralda pouted. "You're too pretty." She flirted. Cinderella blushed a bright shade of red. Jim rolled his eyes.

"Wow." He commented. Cinderella laughed at Jim's reaction before smiling up at Esmeralda.

"Thank you I guess." She smiled happily. Esmeralda shrugged innocently with a flirtatious grin. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name." Cinderella hinted.

"Esmeralda." She introduced herself with a smirk. "Why don't you tell me about yourselves?" Esmeralda asked, gazing over the group.

"Well. . ." Cinderella started, her voice trailing off. "Where do we begin?" She asked, smiling.
