Chapter One
(Disclaimer: this is not my story, it's from YouTube. First episode is above)
In the Tremaine Orphanage, all was sound and silent. Almost everyone was sleeping peacefully. Jim Hawkins though, appeared to be having a nightmare. His breathing sped up slightly as he dreamed of the moment in his past that would forever haunt him.
It was a night just like this one. Everyone had been sleeping, unknowing that their lives would change forever. Crash! Downstairs, in the kitchen, the gigiantic pot used to serve food, had tumbled over. The fire that kept it heated, started spreading wildly. Young Jim had been sleeping, however the noise woke him. His eyes snapped open and he quickly sat up in his bed. His mouth was ajar, he was breathless, scared. All because, his father was the one in the kitchen. Trapped by the flames and unable to escape. He layed on the floor, clutching his head in slight pain. His mother had been there as well. Her mouth dropped in surprise, a hand flying to her mouth out of terror. Jim started rushing down the stairs, as fast as he could. His heart pounded in his chest. He had to help. He had to save them. His mother rushed forward, a loud "no!" Escaped her lips. Jim swung around the banister, stopping at the bottom of the stairs. It was at that moment, his mother and father were consumed by the flames. Jim watched, shaking his head in disbelief. No.
Jim fell to the floor, awoken from his nightmare. He sat up and rubbed his head.
"Good morning!" Snow White greeted cheerfully. Of course she'd be a morning person. It was expected. In her hands she held a candle, it dimly lit the room. The orphanage barely had electricity as it is. She let out a yawn, her arms stretching while doing so. "oh, we have to clean today." She pointed out.
Cinderella was the opposite of Snow. Definitely not a morning person. Her arm rested on her face, eyes still closed as she lie on the bed. She quickly turned on her side, ultimately choosing to ignore Snow.
Snow White giggled slightly. How she managed to smile, no one would know. "would you rather make the madam angry?" She asked softly. She meant Madam. Tremaine of course. The orphanage director. She was just as cruel as she sounded. A nasty old woman with a short temper. One could only wonder why she chose to work with children if she hated them.
"When is she not angry?" Jim grumbled tiredly. He started slipping on his shoes while Cinderella laughed at the comment. She sat up in her bed now, finally waking up.
Snow White decided that sense they were taking forever to get ready, she would call first dibs on chores. "I pick the broom!" She declared, picking it up.
Jim ran a hand over his face. Before letting out a grunt of exasperation. "lucky you."
Meanwhile, Cinderella started to put her hair up. Jim glanced over at her before picking up a mop. His gaze went to Ariel's bed for a second. "So. . . Where's Ariel?" He asked. Ariel was his crush after all. (I know it's Melody in the clip, but I'm doing Ariel. Deal with it.)
Cinderella grabbed a turquoise colored ribbon. She started tying her hair up into a pony tail. "Getting us some breakfast I hope." She answered.
Jim nodded and went back to angrily scrubbing the floors. "I hate using the mop." He complained. If you haven't noticed, Jim is the negative one of the group.
Cinderella shrugged slightly. She'd fastened an apron around her waist. She got to her knees, wringing out a wet towel. "it's not so bad." She commented.
"Just whistle while you work!" Snow said happily, being optimistic as ever. That would probably get annoying soon. She continued sweeping.
"Makes cleaning much more fun!" Cinderella agreed as she started cleaning the floors.
Anya rushed up the stairs in panic. "guys!" She exclaimed. Cinderella's head turned towards her.
"Ariel's getting adopted." She informed. Snow's eyes widened in shock.
"Adopted? Why didn't you tell is sooner?" Cinderella quickly stood up. She brushed herself off. With that, she rushed out the door.
Jim frowned as he held the mop. He watched her go before looking down. Ariel...was leaving? His frown only deepened.
~~~
Cinderella stopped at the top of the stairs, watching the scene below her. Gaston was talking to Lady Tremaine. Ariel stood between the pair, she didn't seem too happy.
"What's wrong?" Snow White asked. She had yet to see what was going on. Jim hesitantly appeared beside Snow. Though he didn't want to show it, he really cared.
Lady Tremaine smiled rather falsely. "it's a miracle you want to adopt this child." She commented with a grin. Ariel frowned slightly and stared at the floor. "She was always so much trouble, I was sure no one would want her." That was definitely a lie.
Cinderella immediately began to protest. "what?"
"That's not true at all." Jim stated, angry.
"Who is that man anyway?" Snow asked both Cinderella and Jim. However, Anya was the one who answered.
"His name's Gaston Butcher." She explained. "he's the owner of that Gaston Shooting Gallery." She added on. She rubbed her temples slightly. "I bet he donated a lot of money to this place." She muttered.
Lady Tremaine started signing the papers. "I'm sure you both will be-"
"No!" A cry of protest rang out, interrupting Tremaine. Gaston glanced over at the voice. Tremaine whipped around with a gasp. Who dared interrupt her!? "You can't make me go with him!" Ariel exclaimed. Both Cindy and Snow gasped in surprise. Ariel quickly ran away to her room.
"I see what you mean by troublesome." Gaston muttered to Tremaine. Her eyes narrowed slightly. This definitely wasn't over.
~~~
Ariel was crying while lying on her bed. She furiously wiped away the tears.
"Ariel? Can we talk to you?" Cinderella called from outside the door.
"Ariel?" Jim questioned softly as they entered the room. Tears slipped down her face as she clutched her necklace.
"Oh please don't cry." Cinderella soothed.
"I don't want to go with him." She sniffled, crying.
"And you won't have to, dear." Snow White reassured.
"You can stay with us!" Cinderella promised. Ariel was rather dear to them.
"Yeah, if you consider other orphans to be family material." Anya joked with a grin.
"I do. I like it here with everyone." Ariel admitted as her tears ceased. She glanced up at Jim. He continued to avoid eye contact, before finally glancing up at her. "I mean, did you see how big Gaston's nose was?" She asked.
"Now you'll never have to see it again!" Anya declared.
"Hey! Are you guy's almost ready for the party?" A voice asked from outside the door.
Jim was immediately confused. "party?" He questioned while Cinderella went and opened the door.
"Hey Cindy. How's it going?" Kayley greeted.
"I'm sorry Kayley, but what party are you talking about?" Cinderella asked.
"The big adoption party? It's the night most of us get adopted?" She reminded. How could they not know? "Any of this sound familiar?" She questioned. Anya and Jim glanced over at each other, confused. "It's why you guy's were cleaning earlier." Kayley explained.
"Oh yes. A party sounds wonderful!" Snow exclaimed happily. She loved parties, and dancing. Anya was clearly contemplating on wether or not she should go.
"Yeah, I say we should go." Ariel commented, smiling happily as her eyes filled with excitement.
"With dresses!"
"And food!"
"And people!"
"And music!"
The girls had started shouting out ideas while Jim slowly started backing away.
"Alright, see you guys there!" Kayley waved before walking away. She chuckled softly.
"Don't I get a say?!" Jim questioned. He was not a fan of parties. Dressing up wasn't his thing. However, the girl's were already walking away to go get ready. Jim groaned and rubbed his temples.
~~~
Music played loudly while people danced. Jim sighed and leaned against the wall. He looked up and his eyes widened. Ariel stood at the top of the staircase. She had a light pink dress on. She made her way down the stairs, smiling. It was clear she kept chanting in her head not to fall. Jim stood at the bottom of the staircase. He smiled slightly and looked up at her like she was the most beautiful one there.
"Well, look at you!" Snow said, in awe of Ariel's appearance.
"How is it?" Ariel asked nervously, playing with her dress.
"Beautiful, Miss Melody!" Anya grinned and curtsied playfully. Cinderella however was observing Jim's experession. She smiled as he stared at Ariel. He so liked her.
"She looks pretty." Cindy commented to Jim, who looked over at him. She grinned slightly and he looked down shyly. Ariel was currently curtsying to Anya and Snow. Jim frowned and looked down. He heard a voice suddenly.
"Care to dance Sarah?" It sounded familiar.
"Wh-what?!" Jim looked over. He saw his mother and father. His mom curtsied and his father bowed. Jim's jaw dropped. Suddenly, they vanished. Jim frowned and looked down.
"Well look who it is." A voice commented from a nearby couch. She stood up and smirked.
"Who. . .? Jasmine?" Cinderella turned around, eyes wide with surprise. Jim frowned slightly, he didn't really like her.
"I see none of you have been adopted." She commented. "Otherwise you wouldn't be wearing those rags." She stated. Ariel bit her lip harshly.
"Well, it's not like we have money to buy new clothes!" Anya exclaimed. Jasmine rolled her eyes.
"Ladies, please. We're at a party." Snow reminded. She was always trying to play peacemaker.
"At least my parents cared enough to come back for me!" Jasmine growled, her eyes narrowing into a sharp glare. Cinderella gasped, flinching. Ariel looked down, hugging herself slightly. Snow immediatly backed away. A tear slipped down Cinderella's face.
"Wow Jasmine." Jim spoke up. Jasmine's attention turned to him. "You really are something." He committed with an eye roll. Jasmine huffed and stepped forward. "The only reason your parents came back was so you could marry that rich buffoon!" Jim exclaimed. He gestured to Aladdin who bowed to a couple. Jasmine was seething in angry.
"How dare you." She growled, stepping forward. "You think you can say what you want?" She walked up to Jim. "At least I'm not stuck here. You orphan!" She yelled, looking him in the eyes.
"At least I have people that actually care about me!" He yelled back. "You harlot!" Jasmine flinched back at what she'd been called. Her hand flew to her mouth. She quickly rushed out of the room. He definitely didn't regret it.
~~~
"I can't believe Jasmine would even say something like that." Anya commented to Jim after the party.
"Hey, do you know who that is over there?" Ariel asked, gesturing slightly. Cinderella glanced over in the direction. There was a small girl. She had on a red dress with white leaves. Her hair was black and went slightly past her shoulders. She turned around in surprise. Jim and Anya watched.
"Hi." She greeted with a slight wave.
