*cough*
I am alone and uninspired and my best friend is doing homework 24/7
The beach was lively and full of people who had the brightest smiles on their faces. All that rush and excitement made Tyler's stomach turn. He flinched seeing little kids splash water on each other and giggle afterwards. The thought of salty liquid substance hitting his nervous sweat flushed skin made him gag. Today wasn't the day that Tyler was up for a swim. The boy was also embarrassed about himself. He was twenty and still didn't know how to swim. He felt like he's about to pee himself.
Josh dragged him through the people, the man wasn't at all bothered by that cluster-fuck as Tyler liked to call it, pardon his French, I'm not responsible for him. Tyler tried closing his eyes and letting Josh lead him but every time he felt someone brush past him his eyes shot open. The boy imagined opening his eyes and finding him waist deep in the water as Josh runs off waving goodbye. Tyler had no idea why he didn't trust Josh. Maybe because it wasn't his Josh, it wasn't the Josh he fell in love with. It was just fragments of the old one he once knew. The man Tyler knew loved him and wasn't afraid to say it. The man he loved didn't just say "I appreciate you, Tyler." No... The man that once so adored him would jump into his arms and kiss his whole face whispering how pretty his eyelashes are.
Now Tyler felt empty. The hollow space in his heart couldn't be filled by this replacement. It's like putting a paper bag on your foot and calling it a sock. Tyler still loved Josh no matter what but his love quickly drained by his poisonous thoughts. Why should he love someone who doesn't love him back? Why should he cling to the past when he can find someone new? Tyler never through that he was doubting his love after all he's been through. Tyler had a chance to finally be happy again, why he was so persistent to ruin it? Maybe Tyler thought that he didn't deserve love, he didn't want to be saved. The boy was unconsciously punishing himself. Alex was a nice guy... Maybe Tyler should...
"Hey!" Tyler's train of thought was interrupted by a gentle nudge to his side "What are you thinking about?"
"What?" Tyler heard Josh's question loud and clear but still had the need to ask
"You look like you're trying to set the air on fire." Josh chuckled and let go of Tyler's hand
The by immediately clung to the man's forearm. He realized that he was knees deep in the water. Josh wrapped his arm around Tyler's shoulder for comfort and brought him closer. Tyler looked into the sky refusing to look down.
"Are you that scared?"
Tyler nodded without looking at the man. He focused on the people swimming in the distance and breathed deeply. His chest felt heavy like snow had filled the insides of his lungs. The brunette licked his dry lips and glanced at Josh. He raised an eyebrow.
"What's wrong?"
"T-too many people." Tyler stuttered looking around "I can't do this."
"Tyler, there's nothing to be afraid of." Josh cooed but Tyler just got more furious
"You don't understand!" Tyler stomped out of the water "It's... It's not like I'm afraid of it because I can't swim. In fact, I can swim. I always had I'm just not very good at it."
"Tyler..." Josh reached for the boy but Tyler backed away onto the dry sand
"I can't do this, I can't live like this anymore, Josh. Maybe I need to see a doctor, maybe I'm more fucked up than I think. And this all water therapy shit is not working. You wanna know why? Because every time I see the water all I can see is you drowning. I can see the blood on my hands, Josh. The fact that you're alive doesn't make it better because I can't erase my memory, I can't get it out of my head, I can't do this!"
Josh stood still surrounded by water. Tyler was practically screaming and the people were looking weird and Tyler was embarrassed. He was so embarrassed but couldn't stop shaking and crying because his body froze. His legs just wouldn't listen to himself. He wanted to run away, he wanted to hike. Hide in his bed and shut himself off again because every time he decided to come out of his shell no matter how hard he tried the boy tried not to he fucked up. Suddenly Tyler realized that there's no worth in trying because what's the point if you gonna get knocked down again.
"Tyler, come back." Josh pushed through the crown seeing Tyler slowly turn around and back away "Tyler!"
"Maybe I should just give up." Tyler muttered pushing Josh away "Maybe I should just die."
"Don't say that." Josh's facial expression stiffened "Don't you dare to say that again."
"Why do you care?" Tyler shook his head "Why would anyone care? I fuck up. I fuck up everything. Always. All the damn time. "
Josh grabbed Tyler's hand and dragged him further away from the crowd. At this time Tyler didn't need the unnecessary attention. Josh made sure that he brought Tyler to the part of the beach where no one wanted to go. There were no food kiosks, no juice bars, no public showers or changing booths. The small dunes hid them both from curious eyes, the wind and the waves carried away their voices. Tyler collapsed on the sand hiding his face, he was so embarrassed. He broke down in public and everyone saw it.
Tyler's shoulders twitched when he felt Josh envelop him in a tight hug. A ragged breath escaped his lungs as the man began kissing his hair. Little by little Josh moved from his hair to Tyler's neck and shoulders. The kisses were pure, light, without any other intention. A smile crept on Tyler's lips and the boy had no other choice but to giggle. Tyler tried pushing Josh's face away because his stubble was scratchy.
"Stop, Josh, stop!" Tyler cackled
"No, I won't." Josh tickled Tyler's ribs
"I'm gonna pee myself! " Tyler screeched
"If that means that you'll smile then so be it!" Josh tickled Tyler more intensely
Tyler pushed Josh off and crawled away from him. Tyler winced feeling his fingertips scrape against the necklace on Josh's neck.
"Come here and let me love you!" Josh growled playfully
"No, stay away from me!" Tyler giggled as he rolled away from Josh
The man caught up with the brunette by the water. Josh scooped Tyler up and dragged him into the waves. Tyler gasped as the water hit his skin but Josh held him tightly by his side. Tyler buried his face in the crook of Josh's neck for comfort, his eyelashes fluttering closed as he breathed in the sweet aroma. The wet rocks crunched under his feet, sand swirled on the bottom as their feet danced a sloppy made up dance. Josh kissed Tyler's wet curls making the boy's pale lips curl upwards.
Tyler curled his fists into a ball when he noticed a light scrape on his fingertips. A few drops of his blood ran down Josh's chest but the waves washed them away. Tyler stared at the necklace in awe as it slowly turned ocean blue erasing the red. Josh was unaware of the fact that Tyler had cut his hand open. Tyler opened his mouth to say something but there were no words to describe what he was seeing in front of him.
"J-Josh, h-how do you feel?" Tyler babbled watching small blue scales appear on Josh's temples
The man flashed him a confused smile.
"I'm fine, why do you ask?"
Tyler didn't answer. He continued staring at the small scales that were littering the side of Josh's face. They both slowly sank down, Josh was still unaware of what was happening. Tyler squealed feeling a slimy scaly surface brush against his thigh. Josh's eyes looked clouded. He blinked lazily and babbled something under his breath. The gill slits on the sides of his neck fluttered open and then quickly closed.
"Josh!" Tyler shook Josh "Josh, I can't... I can't hold you anymore."
Now Tyler was the one holding Josh because the man's eyes were closing slowly, his body became limp and the brunette was using all of his strength to keep Josh afloat.
Finally, Josh's eyes closed completely and Tyler's hands gave in. The man slipped out of his embrace and disappeared under the water where the waves pulled him into the ocean leaving a certain someone crying once again.
