Chapter 52- Katie's POV

My mate pulled me to a standing position as soon as he was done with the phone call with his uncle. He didn't say a word and pulled me into a hug, and I couldn't help but hug him back.

I buried my face into his shirt while I grabbed my hands tighter together before I closed my eyes and sighed happily.

My mate chuckled and rubbed my back, keeping his phone out for some reason. "I love you, Katie," he said, and I bit back a small smile and buried myself further into his shirt.

And I you... I thought, biting the inside of my lip. I love you, too.

My mate pressed a small kiss on my forehead before he pulled away when his phone rang. "Hmph," he said and bit back a small smirk when he saw someone calling him before he looked at me. "It looks like my uncle needs me for something else."

He answered the phone and placed it beside his ear while he sat down and pulled me to sit down beside him. "Hello, Uncle," he said and raised an eyebrow. "What can I do for you?"

I leaned my head closer to my mate's head so that I could hear what his uncle had to say, and my mate shifted so that I would be able to hear as well. I offered him a tight smile while I looked at him, and he nodded.

"Can you make sure that there are multiple rooms ready for us, please?" he asked, and my mate snorted and rolled his eyes. "That's all I wanted to ask because I hadn't asked that before I hung up on my phone without a proper goodbye."

"Gee, I wonder why," Daniel said with a bit of sarcasm in his voice, smirking. "Somehow, I got you mad by telling you the truth, and you didn't want to continue to have this conversation with me."

Dean growled teasingly, and he narrowed his eyes playfully. "Very funny," he said sarcastically, and my mate smirked and bit back a small chuckle. "There is no need to use sarcasm with me, Daniel."

"There is always a need for sarcasm, Dean," someone said from the background, and Dean growled playfully at her. The person snickered. "You know that I am right, Dean."

"Not this time, Love," Dean said, earning a small growl from the other person. "You aren't right on this. I don't know why you are saying that it is."

"Are you sure that you don't want to change that statement, Dean?" the person asked, and I had a feeling that they raised an eyebrow in question.

"You might want to, Uncle Dean," Daniel said with a small smirk in his voice, biting back a small chuckle. "I mean, I don't think Aunt Clarice is going to change her mind, especially since she has been right about many things."

"Well, you have not known her that long, so... I think your point is invalid, Dannie Boy," Dean said, teasingly.

Daniel grew stiff beside me and was about to growl but stopped as soon as I placed my hand on his knee. He didn't say a word and stared at me with cold hard brown eyes, and I couldn't help but smile, silently praying that he would keep his wolf at bay and not do something he would later regret.

"Easy, Dean," Clarice warned from the other side of the line as if she knew what I was thinking. "Remember, he is still unmarked and unmated. His wolf could take that the wrong way."

"Oh, right, sorry, Dannie Boy," Dean said, and guilt filled his voice. He cleared his throat and shifted every so slightly. "Speaking of which, how is everything going with your human mate? Have you told her about us yet?"

"She knows about us because of the kidnapping," Daniel said, relaxing ever so slightly, much to my relief. He pulled me closer to him and placed a small kiss on my forehead. "And, she is not human but like Jess and everyone else that they helped rescue."

"Oh, really now?" Dean asked, sounding very curious. "So she would have known about us beforehand, right? Or was this just some secret to keep her safe?"

"I don't know," Daniel said while he turned his attention to me. He raised an eyebrow in question, silently asking me what I had known about them and didn't know before I came to live here.

I didn't say a word and shrugged with a small grimace on my face, not saying a word. I looked at my hands, breaking eye contact first with my cheeks turning a different shade of red.

Oh, Goddess, please let him change the subject, I silently prayed and bit the inside of my lip.

Daniel bit back a tired sigh and slowly nodded as if he knew what I was thinking. "She hasn't been comfortable about opening up about her past, even though Mom, her best friend, and I are here to lend a helping hand and listening ear for whenever she wants to talk to us about this, but we aren't going to force her to say anything about it until she is feeling comfortable."

I breathed a small sigh of relief and looked at him with a small smile on my face, silently thanking him for helping me and making sure that he didn't give this "strange" man more information about my life than I would like to have out in the open.

My mate smiled and nodded his welcome before he pulled me closer to him. He pressed a small kiss to the side of my head, and I closed my eyes and snuggled closer to him while I listened to the conversation that he had with his uncle.

"Understandable," Dean said, and I couldn't help but think that he shrugged and grimaced. "Anyway, I need to go and get everything packed before we leave and hit the road. Can you contact me when you know when you are closer to battle or the baby being born, please? We'll stay until the threat is eliminated before we head home."

Daniel sighed with relief and relaxed underneath my body while he nodded. "Ok, good," he said. "Hopefully the next time you visit or we visit you, it will be on better terms and not with a battle looming overhead."

"We'll come no matter what," Dean promised while he tucked his head closer to his chest. "And after the battle and you all have had time to fix whatever needs to be fixed, Clarice and I will go up there for a while to visit the baby. We are so excited to finally meet her."

"And we will be extra excited when both you and your mate have your own baby, too," Clarice said with a small hum in her voice. "I hope you know that, Daniel."

"I do," Daniel said. "Uncle Dean, we will talk more about everything when you get here. I do not think it is safe to do it over the phone."

"Of course," he said. "I love you, Kiddo, and don't forget that. Understood? I'll see you soon."

And with that and without letting Daniel get another word in, Dean hung up the phone, eating a small growl from my not so kid mate but a kid nonetheless.
