Chapter 29- Katie's POV

I looked between the pair and furrowed my brows, confused. My brain started to hurt, and all I wanted to do was fall asleep and process everything, even though I knew it wouldn't be possible just yet. Heck, I didn't think I would be able to fall asleep in this place, especially since I was closer to my father than I liked.

Aunt Jess looked at me and then at her brother. Concern flashed through her eyes, and I had a feeling that she knew I was getting tired and overwhelmed. "We need to get her out of here," she said, her voice holding no room for argument. "This is all too much for her, and I know that she is going to need time to process this." She paused and cleared her throat. "I'd rather have her process this at the pack house instead of here where she is safe."

Nik looked at me and then at her with furrowed brows and a frown on his face. He looked confused, but she kept the serious look on her face. "You're the one that's pregnant," he said, and I could hear the start of an argument in his voice, and I had a feeling that Aunt Jess did too because she scowled.

"So?" she asked and raised an eyebrow, and he looked at her with his mouth agape. She looked up at the shackles and tested their strength, and I couldn't help but wonder if she wanted to try and escape that way by breaking them and breaking me loose from mine.

Could she even do that? I silently wondered, and a part of me had a feeling that she could in time. If not, then how is she planning on escaping?

"You're kidding me. Right?" Nik asked, the shock evident in his voice, and she raised an eyebrow in question. "Please tell me that you are kidding."

"I am not," she replied. She raised her hand and silenced him with only a flick of her wrist, and I could tell that he didn't like it. "I've made quite a few friends over the years and have... many favors that I am owed and have not cashed out on."

Realization dawned in his eyes when she looked at him, and I had a feeling that he knew what she did and why she did what she did, even though I had no idea what she did or why she did it. "So your child is safe?" he asked, and she nodded in confirmation. "How? Why?"

"Not tellin'," she replied, and her brother scowled in dissatisfaction. She gave him a smug look before she grew serious. "That isn't something that you need to concern yourself with right now, Nik," she said. She sighed and looked at me before she looked at her brother again. "What you need to concern yourself with is the fact that we're known, even though we aren't supposed to be."

"What do you mean?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, and she looked at me again. I looked between the two of them, confused. I was surprised that I wasn't panicking as I should be, and I wondered if it was because I was with Aunt Jess and knew that she would protect me.

Aunt Jess sighed and looked at me. Her gray eyes had this hard look in them, and for a moment, I saw a leader, a warrior, instead of the female that I knew with bright eyes that held comfort in them. She studied me and cocked her head, her eyes not losing that hard look in them. "What all do you know?" she asked, and I shrugged and grimaced. "About yourself?"

I shrugged and grimaced. "I don't know," I said honestly. "All I know is that my mom was something that my dad didn't like, and my dad loved hurting people that were like my mom."

She nodded. "Do you remember when I told you that I was a Werewolf/Hunter hybrid, and you were one, too?" She raised an eyebrow in question, and I nodded in confirmation. "Well, there are more than us," she said. She shrugged and cleared her throat. "I do not know how many there are, but there are enough to form an army."

"I work with a group of Hunters that have worked with our grandfather," Nik said, and I looked at him. "We are called to protect those that are hybrids or are able to pass the genes to their children."

"Their children can either have the werewolf gene or hunter gene or both. Depending on how powerful the parents are, the child can be either more powerful or less powerful than them," Aunt Jess added.

I furrowed my brows and cocked my head while I studied them. "Does that mean I have a wolf?" I asked, and she nodded in confirmation. "But wolves are..." I trailed off, and an image of Daniel flashed through my mind.

Was he evil too?

"Daniel is a full blooded wolf," Aunt Jess said, confirming my suspicions. "However, not all wolves are evil, just like not all hunters are bad." She looked up and tested the shackles again. "There are just a few bad apples that give them that name."

"But my dad..." I trailed off and stopped speaking.

"Told you that all wolves were bad?" she asked and looked at me, and I nodded while I stayed silent. "But..?" She raised an eyebrow as if she knew that I had a "but."

I looked down and licked my lips, not wanting to say a word. I thought about Daniel and David and the other people that I had been in contact with at... I guess the pack. I knew that they wouldn't hurt me, and I didn't think they were evil.

But I was stuck in here while Sarah was still with them...

I lifted my head so fast that Nik flinched while Aunt Jess looked at me with a calculating gaze and a stone cold face. Worry for my friend filled my body, and I prayed that nothing happened to her because I didn't want to be the reason she was killed. "Sarah..." I breathed out. "She doesn't know. She could be scared or, or something because s-she is with a d-different species than us."

Aunt Jess smiled amused, and I scowled because I didn't like her response to my worry and fear. "Sarah is fine and safe with the pack, Katie," she soothed, and I frowned. "She also knows about Werewolves."

"How?" I asked, a little offended that Sarah knew about Werewolves and didn't tell me, but then again, I didn't tell her about what I was or what my father was like.

"That is for her to say, and not me," she replied, her voice firm and told me not to press. "And the Werewolf community is quiet about their doings, and the humans that are lucky to be in a pack can't talk about it unless they are alone or are talking with a Werewolf."

"Or a Hunter," Nik added, and he smiled at his sister when she gave him an annoyed look. He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet, and he looked away from her, nervous. "So, why did you decide to risk your safety and hers to end up here?" he asked, changing the subject, and folded his arms across his chest.

"Because I saw that you all were having problems deleting the information about who has the genes to become a super weapon and not and how to stop them from finding every one," she replied.

Nik raised an eyebrow and stayed silent.

She shrugged. "I also got into their system and can fuck them up a lot, but I am going to need to have a file for that if I want to," she added, and his other eyebrow joined the first.

"What?" Nik asked.

She rolled her eyes and scowled. "I hacked into their system," she replied. "I wanted to set up some malware that will make it so that they can't collect any more data about us, but I wasn't able to do it from my laptop without a file already placed on their computer. Spam emails didn't seem to work because it just went to their spam folder or it was deleted as soon as I sent it."

"What?" he asked again.

"I hacked into their system." She shrugged and looked indifferent about hacking into a place where she shouldn't have been. "It really wasn't that hard, and I hadn't gotten caught or booted."

"But, we tried to hack into their system. How did you get into their computer system, and we couldn't?"

"Well, I am also the same one that hacked into NASA at the age of nine or something like that," she said. Again, she shrugged and still looked indifferent. "I fixed an error in their computer system, too, so, ya. The reason why it wasn't "big news" was because my parents wanted privacy about us and that. Do you know how stupid they'd look if people found out that a nine-year-old hacked into their system, and they couldn't kick her out? That would have caused a lot of damage to their image that they didn't want to ensue."

Nik furrowed his brows and cocked his head, confused. "Ok, then what do you want to do?" he asked, and there was some confusion in his voice. "We haven't been able to do anything to stop them from gathering that information, and I know that we are on our wit's end in trying to keep everyone safe."

Aunt Jess moved her tongue against the front part of her teeth and then moved her jaw with her mouth still closed as if she was trying to do something that I didn't understand.

"Jess?" Nik asked, very confused, and so was I. "What are you doing?"

Aunt Jess didn't say a word and pushed something like a retainer out of her mouth.

"Jess?" Nik asked in shock, and Aunt Jess moved the retainer in her mouth up and down while she watched her brother. He furrowed his brows and cocked his head while he studied her. "Do... you want me to take it out of your mouth?" he asked, and she nodded.

Nik sighed but nodded, and he looked defeated because he knew that he wouldn't win an argument with her over this, whatever this was. "Ok," he ceased and did what she wanted and took it out of her mouth.

He furrowed his brows when he looked at the retainer to see that there was a small chip in the top, and it was sealed in a plastic bag. "What's this?" he asked and looked at her with furrowed brows.

"That," she said and shifted when her baby pushed against a rib. She grimaced before she cleared her throat and shifted again to get comfortable, even though I had a feeling that she had no way to get comfortable. "That is to delete the information that they had collected on us and to make sure that we stay safe from them."
