Very smooth opening scene. Subtle jabs of information between the dialogue that completes the chapter.

I doubt a single stab to the chest is enough to kill a man- there'd be blood and stuff but he could still struggle and try to clobber you before just dropping dead.

This is good. Thought processing clear as sky.

Chapters are short-ish but the right length for the amount of information and suspense they each let out.

I never thought I'd enjoy a story about militarized historians.

Summary: Nice pacing and exposition. Still haven't arrived to the major plot point though, and it's 32 chapters already.
