WOW ...

Remind me never again to judge a poetry contest.

Though I did not see the number of poems I would have liked to see, the ones that were submitted were amazing.

When all was said and done, I re-read the top 12 poems several times over, eliminating several each time, until I was left with 4.

From those 4 came the hardest task of all, choosing one.

In the end, it came down to the originality of the interpretation of the picture.

Again there were several that caught my eye and I was still no further ahead.

FINALLY ...

it came down to one line that resonated over and over in my mind, even as I read some of the other amazing poems.

... My mind towers above me as a dark angel ...

The darkness in our own minds, reflecting on the diminished capacity of people to coexist, ultimately reflected in our own realization that there is no right.
