Chapter Seven: The First Memories
Ouma's POV:
"Does anyone have anything they want to trade for a tuna sandwich?" someone asked, my eyes opened, as I found myself out in some sort of schoolyard with a group sitting underneath a tree, it was around maybe five people in total. They looked to be maybe thirteen at the most.
"Who in their right mind would trade anything for a tuna sandwich?" someone asked, the disgust clear in their voice. I could hear myself gasp as I finally really looked at the group.
It was DICE. Only...it wasn't DICE...
"Says the person with only an apple for lunch, you better tell me you're going to go get some more food or so help me god I'm going to shove that tuna sandwich down your throat" Genkei threatened. He looked exactly as I remembered him.
His long dirty blond hair pulled back into a messy ponytail, green eyes, olive skin that always had an unnatural sickly look on him. He was also wearing a school uniform, something my Genkei wouldn't have been caught dead in. He also has a single piercing on his left ear, that probably breaking the dress code here. He clearly didn't care though. I guess some things stayed the same.
Yet the way he carried himself was different, more hunched over compared to the more joyful posture I remembered. My Genkei was always just making snarky remarks, he never said much besides that unless he was scolding someone for doing something dumb or hurting themselves, like Takura and his eating disorder. This one...he just didn't look like he would do the same things, his voice, his looks, his face was the same, even some of his words...but that wasn't him. Like an imposter, I looked over at...what do I even call him? Do I call him Ouma? Wait...do we even have the same name? He's just standing there sad.
"What do I call you?" I asked he looked at me shocked that I asked, he looked down, kicking the dirt that refused to move due to the weird situation we were in. He finally looked at me, "w-well...w-we have the s-same name s-so...c-call me K-Kokichi?" He suggested. I nodded, "that works, so this is your DICE?" I asked, looking at the group having lunch.
He nodded, "yeah...that's Genkei Fujioka-" he started pointing out when I stopped him, "I already know their names, they have the same appearance as my friends," I told him. He looked at me curiously, "oh...s-sorry...j-just s-since you d-didn't know her I t-thought" he started, "for the last time who is her?" I asked.
He looked down, ignoring my question, "I-I s-saw a g-glimpse...I- I k-know a little about y-you..." he admitted, "how much?" I quickly asked seriously, Kokichi looked at me scared, "I-I k-know a little o-of y-your childhood...n-not much the e-emotion...m-more o-of it l-like factual i-information" Kokichi explained.
I looked down. I didn't want to talk about that. This is unfair. How come he gets to know about me and yet I don't even know a sliver about my- HIS life.
I turned my attention back to DICE, I could properly see them, it almost hurt looking at them like this, the...god now there's three of us, at least this one can't see us. A younger version of Kokichi was sitting there too, he looked like us, minus some bandages, and...no...I cannot be the same height from when I was thirteen...I refuse to believe this...
Damn it.
The one Genkei had been scolding was Takura, and the person offering the sandwich was Nao. The only one who had yet to say a word was Tsuki. That wasn't a surprising fact though, Tsuki was always the shyer of the group, Saihara even reminded me of her but turns out he could have a backbone. Which he would immediately flaunt once he figured out its existence.
It...it was disturbing seeing them like this. It felt...wrong.
Takura had his short dark brown hair, amber eyes and black-rimmed glasses, he seemed to have braces now...and what scared me the most was his with a skinny build. A part of me was hoping his other counterpart wasn't anorexic, but unfortunately, it seems that was consistent. He was wearing the same school uniform as Genkei which barely hid his build, and he had some anime pins that I couldn't recognize, he seemed to string in a sort of necklace.
Nao has a buzz cut along with blue eyes and fair skin. He also has a backpack filled to the brim with computers and gaming systems, and like how I remember Mirai wearing a pair of black headphones. He would never take them off, same school uniform as the other guys, guess that makes sense this is meant to be a school.
Tsuki with her lilac hair and light blue eyes, she was still tall, probably the tallest of all the girls, except if Riko attempted to wear those giant high heels. Those would immediately result in some sort of injury, like the time she tripped on the stairs because they got caught in someone's discarded gum. She also has a teal scarf over her schoolgirl uniform, which seemed to be as conservative as possible, nothing like those short anime skirts the girls in Takura's anime wear. She also has an oval-shaped brown glasses, and a white flower crown on her head. She was even paler than me, but that was pretty normal for her.
They all had some kind of bandage or bruise on them.
"Hey, do you want to go and check out that new movie?" Takura asked excited, "maybe, I have to work a lot this weekend, they double shifted me," Nao said, "you could've just said you're playing video games with Mirai," Genkei said grinning.
"How many times do I have to tell you we're just friends!" Nao said blushing, "sure, and Kokichi is a badass," Genkei said rolling his eyes, "h-hey!" the...god don't tell me I need a third name.
The past version of me pouted, and I could only cringe at the stuttering.
"Oh c'mon you know I'm only pulling your leg," Genkei said with a small, "t-that was s-still mean..." the third one said, "please just get along...' Tsuki willed, she looked tired. Takura smiled as he got up and waved at a group of others, "hey guys over here! Save me from tuna sandwiches!" he screamed, "Thanks for reminding me!" Genkei perked up as Takura booked it, running down the hill surprisingly agile for how weak he looked, Genkei ran after.
I looked to see who he was looking at, everyone else looked fine, it was Riko and Kazue.
Riko has wavy chestnut hair tied up always, her favorite two pigtails and hazel eyes. She wore a short skirt version of the girl's uniform. The opposite of Tsuki in a sense, along with always carrying a tan backpack. On her wrists are an assortment of bracelets, homemade and store-bought along with having a bag filled with makeup supplies. She has honey skin along with very natural style makeup.
Kazue has light pink hair in the style of K-POP stars and blue eyes. Has an average build, not muscular but not skinny and often changes his clothing style in accordance with the time, he seemed to add slight modifications purely for fashion sake to the uniform along with wearing a black face mask, along with rings over some henna tattoos. He had light makeup of eyeshadow and lip gloss and eyeliner.
The last person gave me a headache, and I couldn't recognize her.
A short girl with long dark red hair leading to the middle of her back. She has a set of silver piercings on her ears, she was wearing the uniform as well, sort of midway between Tsuki being conservative, and Riko who seemed to expose the most skin. She is actually European unlike most of us, she stood out like a sore thumb and had ivory skin. She also had a silver locket. I could only see the details of her face in between a static-like covered on her, "hEy KIchI!' she greeted, her voice kept cutting out as I felt myself getting light-headed.
My head throbbed as I saw the flashing words of ERROR pop up in my vision, the girl just stayed the same her unrecognizable face, that just seemed to stare at past Kokichi...no she was looking directly at me, she reached out a hand to me. My knees wobbled, Kokichi noticed, quickly catching me as the world faded to black and disappeared along with the girl.

I don't know how long I was out for, but my headache was partly gone when I woke up, I collected myself before I dared to open my eyes. We were back in the room with the chairs, "a-are you ok?" Kokichi asked. Am I?
I nodded and got up, maybe too quickly, "yup! Was that ms mystery? She looked pretty boring" I yawned. Kokichi looked at me confused, "y-you really forgot...t-they b-blocked h-her...w-why?" he seemed to whisper to himself.
He shook his head looking at me, "s-show me y-yours" he asked. I looked at him confused, "-y-your DICE..." he explained. I looked down, should I really tell the truth to this stranger...?
I took a deep breath, this was the deal...besides he can't exactly tell anyone. At my decision to let him know a second door appeared on the opposite side to his. It looked like his only a white color, covered in...blood.
I ignored the cold feeling running down my back as I opened and stepped through.

The second I saw the alley I felt comforted. Kokichi looked terrified.
It was raining, the alley had a gross smell in the air with the garbage around, with a set of cardboard boxes set aside, covered with the trashbags to block out the rain. Some graffiti art was on the walls as I walked towards the fort.
It was so nostalgic, the feeling of seeing it again wasn't really warm...but not cold either. Just a sense of knowing.
Sitting in there were small children, around maybe twelve at most, they crouched near each other for warmth, as the sixth one stood guard, he had a large oversized black raincoat and a big police hat he had gotten from his father.
It was me.
Kokichi huddled near me, "a-are...a-are you on the streets?" he asked. I nodded, "we're orphans and runaways" I explained, the first time I actually put it into words. It was strange.
"We met on the streets because the orphanage was cruel, or we simply got left there by relatives. It was a tough life, we had to steal to survive when we were younger...we didn't have much but we always accepted anyone new into our group, to play." I felt tears threatening to come out as I looked at the DICE members.
Mirai, Eiji, and Takashiro. They weren't in the other memory. Please....please really exist...
"When we got older we found an old van, and we moved in, and when Nao learned to drive we started to drive all over Japan, it was so much fun, we went wherever the road took us, becoming street performers, and in the dead of night pranksters for hire by neighborhood children, and just for fun.
"It was...it was sad and despairful, for a long time it was, we never could go to school much...everything I learned was from local libraries...I was maybe ten when I learned how to read, and I still can't really write that well...and when we became teenagers I got accepted into Hope's Peak Academy as the ultimate supreme leader.
"The acceptance letter which somehow found me offered money to my friends in exchange for my absence...we could finally live comfortably...that's what I thought...." I mumbled as rage-filled me as I looked at Kokichi, no doubt malice on my face.
"Why?" I asked, tears in my eyes, he looked at me confused, "w-what?" he asked, "WHY? WHY DID YOU JOIN DANGANRONPA? FROM WHAT I SAW YOU DAMN WELL HAD AN EASIER LIFE! SO WHY?" I shouted.
Kokichi cried, "I-I'm s-sorry..." he mumbled, I walked up to him, "sorry isn't good enough..." I said bitter, the world collapsed under us as I screamed falling back into the blackness, I could see the familiar numbers...
No....No.....NO! PLEASE NOT AGAIN! DON'T MAKE ME DO IT AGAIN! I BEG YOU!
I fell deeper and deeper...
Kokichi was gone now...
It just seemed to be endless......
