Chapter 2
---2---
(Prologue)
I clutched my kunai close to my chest and narrowed my eyes at the man standing before us, our Sensei and possibly the future Hokage, Minato Namikaze... I focused on the bells, my heart racing. I felt someone quietly shuffle next to me.
'Lucy, what's happened? Has the target moved or given any signs of....um I don't know, um, something, anything?' The voice whispered. My heart did a little tap dance. Obito...
'No, nothing yet, oh and call me Lulu,' I whispered back.
'Right, but if he moves any closer, we'll need you to create a diversion. We need all the time we can to finish this trap, Rin's doing great with it! So you got it Lucy?' Obito whispered. I nodded, annoyed.
'Still Lulu,' I muttered under my breath as he left. I mentally sighed, why didn't Obito recognise me? Or acknowledge me? All I wanted was his approval and to get stuck in with helping him, but he'd just get me to do the boring stuff like create a distraction or so,etching, and he'd always ask Rin first. Why was I so invisible to him? I was lost in thought, when I heard someone yell my name.
'Lulu! Duck!' Rin yelled as a giant log attached to ropes swung down towards Minato Sensei but first aiming for me...
My eyes widened and I ducked, but maybe not low enough. I put my hands over my head and closed my eyes, would I get hit, last time I saw it, that log was coming down pretty low...
I felt a pair of arms around me and someone pulled me out of the way, just in time. When my hero had stopped, I opened my eyes to see Minato Sensei dodge too, startled by our sudden attack. I looked up to see who's arms I was in and I nearly died when I saw Kakashi. My eyes widened and I went stiff. He set me down and I think he was smiling at me from behind that stupid mask of his, but I wasn't sure. You could never be sure of Kakashi, he changed his mind and mood so quickly that it was unpredictable! I had hoped that my saviour had been Obito, but I'd never have been that lucky. There would've been more chance of Ramen raining from the sky than Obito saving me over Rin.
'Are you alright?' Kakashi asked, the worry was obvious in his voice. I nodded and looked at the scene unfolding below us. Obito spat out a fireball at Sensei, hoping to make a mark on the Yellow Flash, but he failed.
'Lucy, wait here, I'm going to get one of the bells, then I'll finally beat Sensei!' He said, jumping down. I shook my head. I wasn't going to tell him that he could call me Lulu or Lu-chan, that was only for my friends and those special to me, he was not one of them.
I watched Kakashi take on a surprised Sensei and before long, there were more explosions. I sighed and stood up. I leapt down from the tree branch I was standing on and landed on the ground. I saw my sister and wandered over to her, careful not to get spotted by Minato Sensei.
'No point, Lulu, the exercise is nearly over, Minato Sensei will just have to stop Kakashi-kun first,' she smiled at me. I bowed my head angrily, I'd barely done anything that exercise, which wasn't like me. Normally I'd try really hard to get notice by Minato Sensei or by Obito, to show them both that I was a talented ninja, but as usual, no one did seem to notice.
'Is there something wrong, Lu-chan?' Rin asked worriedly. I shook my head.
'I guess I just wish I could've done more during the exercise, if you had let me do the trap then maybe we could've-'
'Rin and I had it under controll, besides if we'd have needed that diversion of yours, it would've been a great success Lucy!' Obito grinned, cutting me off. My heart melted but it also hardened. At the same time he meant seething nice but also horrible, but I couldn't get angry at him for that, he tends to say stuff like that without realizing the true meaning, all the time. I sighed and nodded at him.
'Yeah, you're probably right Obito,' I admitted. Obito grinned and we all heard Minato Sensei talking to Kakashi.
'Well, I guess we'd better go see what's going on up there,' Rin said, jumping up, Obito and I following her lead. We appeared a top of a tall tree, to find Kakashi looking pretty down. Minato Sensei sighed. I looked up as the wind blew a soft and gentle breeze, which brought my short-ish brown, pony-tailed hair to life. A few leaves danced across the sky as the wind blew.
'Well, I think we should start heading back to the village, it'll be dark soon. I'm proud of you all, Rin, Obito, I'm impressed with your team work. Kakashi, Lulu, you two are both talented ninja but you don't work as team enough to show your true progress. Especially you Kakashi,' Minato Sensei said finally. I sighed and followed the others when I felt a had on my shoulder.
'Lulu, can I talk to you for a second?' Minato Sensei's voice said from behind me. I stopped and watched the others walking off, before turning to face him.
'Yes Sensei?' I asked nervously.
'I know you're trying hard, really hard in fact, to get you skills and talents noticed by the others, and I've noticed that. You're doing fine and I'm proud of you Lulu, just try not to let the Thera walk all over you, show them you're just as good as they are,' Minato Sensei said.
'Arigato Sensei,' I grinned. Minato Sensei smiled and we turned to follow the others.
