Chapter 6
3rd Person P.O.V
After the house fiasco with the fake Satan and effectively getting the wind knocked out of her by her eldest sister, Sarah had gotten distracted and wandered off, not really paying attention to where she was going. But once she became aware of her surroundings, she realised she was quite far away from where she'd left her sisters. She'd ended up outside a decently-sized house which, like all the other houses, was decorated for Halloween. She noticed movement through one of the windows, and quickly looked to see some sort of memorial set up, with someone standing in front of it so their back was to the window. Perhaps whoever lived here had lost someone on Halloween, so used the night as a time of remembrance instead? That was when Sarah noticed the picture set up at the memorial, and her eyes widened when she saw that it was a picture of herself, Winifred and Mary. Noticing that the window was open, Sarah quietly moved closer to the house, and then heard the person in the house speak.
"Oh, Sarah. It's been three hundred years since I lost you. My immortality has felt like a curse, but I promised you I would wait for your return, and I do not break my promises." Sarah heard a voice that sounded like her lover, Rowena Pendragon, though part of her was in denial because of the gravestone she'd seen in the cemetery. However, when the figure turned a little, Sarah caught a glimpse of a very familiar sapphire necklace, and she recognised it as the same one she had given Rowena back in 1691. Making up her mind, she backed away from the window and walked over to the front door. After hesitating for a few moments, Sarah finally knocked on the door. Footsteps could be heard inside the house, before the door opened, and blue eyes met piercing green ones as Rowena and Sarah stared at one another, both in shock at seeing the other again after three hundred years. Rowena recovered first, quickly pulling Sarah into the house and closing the door behind her.
"Sarah? Is it really you?" Rowena questioned. Sarah could only nod, words failing her as she tried to snap out of her shock.
"But, the cemetery. That gravestone had your name on it." Sarah eventually managed to say, confusion evident in her expression.
"I'm immortal, remember? But in regards to what happened. Two weeks after your death, the Salem townsfolk figured out that I had been your lover, and they confronted me about it. They would've attempted to kill me had it not been for the Binx family stepping in to spread the lie that I had been bewitched by you, and this saved both my reputation and my life. Almost a year later, on the night of All Hallow's Eve, I asked the Binx family to spread the rumour that I had died as supposedly being bewitched for so long had finally taken its toll on me. I used my magic to create a fake body in order to fool the townsfolk, hence the gravestone that now stands in the cemetery. After this, I returned to Salem in disguise once a year to visit your graves and to spend a few days keeping Thackery company. I eventually returned to Salem for good in 1990, and pretended to be my own descendant to explain the identical name and appearance, and I opened my pharmacy to continue my original occupation of helping to heal people." Rowena explained.
"Oh...." Was all Sarah could say in response, as she had no idea how to react to all this. Part of her wanted to slap Rowena for making her believe she was dead, but the other part of her didn't.
"While I did eventually create a spell that will end my immortality, I chose not to cast it. Because I promised you that I would wait for your return, no matter how long it took. And after three hundred years, you have returned, my beloved Sarah." Rowena answered, using the term of endearment she had always called Sarah, a soft and loving smile on her face. Sarah's response to this was to all but throw herself into Rowena's arms, before kissing her with a fierce passion. It was a good few minutes before the two pulled apart, with Sarah leaning her head on Rowena's shoulder.
"I've missed you. And it was a shock for me to find out three hundred years had passed. Speaking of which." Sarah remarked, before she proceeded to slap Rowena on the arm.
"Ow! What was that for?" Rowena questioned.
"For making me believe you were actually dead." Sarah answered.
"I guess that's fair." Rowena said. While Sarah was glad to be reunited with Rowena, she also knew that she had to tell her the truth.
"I wish we could make up for lost time, but the magic of the candle only works tonight. I only have until sunrise." Sarah said.
"Sounds like something I ought to work on. But in the meantime, I want to show you something." Rowena said, leading Sarah into the small office near the back of the house, before showing her a few papers that had various notes written on them, though the main one looked like a list of ingredients for a potion. A cauldron also stood on the desk, with a lilac-coloured liquid inside.
"What is this?" Sarah questioned.
"I know we used to talk about having a family, even though it wasn't possible during the times we lived in. Over the last few centuries, I've been researching ways to create a potion that just might just allow that to happen, provided it's done right. In the cauldron is the first attempt at brewing the potion. It's currently under a stasis spell. I've been making careful notes as I go, because the last thing I want to do is cause a potions accident. The final needed ingredient would be DNA of the would-be biological parents. Strands of hair would most likely be the best option." Rowena explained, showing a vial that held several strands of long brown hair. Sarah thought about this, as she remembered having that very conversation with Rowena multiple times back when she had been alive the first time, before taking several strands of her own blonde hair.
"In case you do ever make the potion, even if I'm not there." Sarah said, placing the strands in the vial Rowena handed her. Rowena took the vial and sealed it, casting a preservation spell on the strands within, just as a precaution, before setting it near the cauldron. Then, the two walked back towards the front door.
"Even though you're only back for tonight, I'm sure this won't be the only time you'll see me." Rowena said.
"Hopefully not, though I should go now. My sisters are probably looking for me." Sarah said. Rowena opened the front door, allowing Sarah to step outside.
"Until next time, my beloved Sarah." Rowena said, pulling Sarah into a hug, which Sarah returned. Then, Rowena stepped back and watched Sarah leave the house and walk down the street, presumably to find her sisters. Even though she knew Sarah would be gone again come sunrise, being able to see her again had brought some comfort, especially since she now knew she hadn't spent three centuries waiting in vain for Sarah's return. After all, if she had been brought back once, then it wasn't impossible that she could be brought back to life a second time.
Picture below is Rowena's necklace that Sarah gave her in 1691
