Chapter 2
3rd Person P.O.V
Three hundred years later, in 1993, a class was sat in a classroom at Jacob Bailey High School, listening to their teacher tell the tale of the Sanderson Sisters.
"Poor Thackery Binx. No one else knew what became of him after that fateful Halloween night. And so, the Sanderson Sisters were hanged by the Salem townsfolk. A year later saw the death of Rowena Pendragon, the town healer, caused by the strain of being bewitched by Sarah Sanderson for so many years. Now there are those who say that on Halloween night, a black cat and a mysterious cloaked figure still guard the Sanderson house. Warning off anyone who might make the witches come back to life." The teacher said, before throwing a ribbon at one of the students and making her jump, much to the amusement of the rest of the class. Well, everyone except one person.
"Give me a break." Max Dennison, who had moved to Salem a week ago, muttered.
"Ah ha. We seem to have a skeptic in our midst. Mr. Dennison, would you care to give your California, laid back, tie-dyed point of view?" The teacher asked, earning laughter from the rest of the class.
"Okay. Granted that you guys here in Salem are all into these black cats and witches and stuff..." Max started.
"Stuff?" The teacher questioned.
"Fine. But everyone here knows that Halloween was invented by the candy companies. It's a conspiracy." Max finished.
"It just so happens that Halloween is based on the ancient feast called All Hallow's Eve. It's the one night of the year where the spirits of the dead can return to Earth." Allison Watts, one of Max's classmates, spoke up, earning applause from the rest of the class.
"Well said, Allison." The teacher said. Max got up and walked over to Allison, a piece of paper in his hand.
"Well in case Jimi Hendrix shows up tonight, here's my number." Max said, handing the paper to Allison. Just then, the bell rang, causing the class to get up and start leaving the room.
"Max, fat chance." One of the boys in the class said. Max just grabbed his things before leaving the school and getting on his bike. On the ride home, he saw Allison, so he rode over to her.
"Allison." Max called, causing Allison to turn and look at him.
"Hi." Allison said.
"Hi. Look, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you in class." Max said to her
"You didn't." Allison said.
"My name's Max Dennison." Max introduced himself.
"Yeah, I know. You just moved here, huh?" Allison asked.
"Yeah, last week." Max answered.
"Must be a big change for you." Allison noted.
"Yeah, that's for sure." Max said
"You don't like it here?" Allison asked.
"Oh, the leaves are great, but...I don't know, it's just all this Halloween stuff." Max answered.
"You don't believe in it? Not even on Halloween?" Allison questioned.
"What do you mean, like the Sanderson sisters? No way. Especially not on Halloween." Max answered.
"Trick or treat." Allison handed him a piece of paper before walking off. Max unfolded the paper, only to see that Allison had written down his phone number and given it back to him. Max then rode home, only to bump into two bullies named Jay and Ice in the cemetery, and this resulted in his shoes getting stolen, so he was forced to ride home in his socks. When he got home, he went in to see his parents were in the middle of doing some unpacking.
"Hey Max, how was school?" Mrs Dennison asked.
"It sucked." Max answered, walking past them.
"Hey, hey. Watch your language." Mr Dennison said.
"I can't believe you made me move here!" Mac exclaimed, storming upstairs. He went into his room and closed the door behind him. He fed his pet fish, and then laid down on his bed.
"Oh, Allison. You're so soft." Max muttered to himself while holding a pillow, as if imagining it was Allison. Suddenly, a figure burst from his closet. It was his younger sister, Dani Dennison.
"Boo!" Dani exclaimed, making Max jump.
"Dani!" Max exclaimed in annoyance. Dani jumped onto the bed.
"I scared you. I scared you! Ha ha! I'm Allison. Allison. Kiss me, I'm Allison." Dani playfully mocked her brother's earlier actions.
"Mom and Dad told you to stay out of my room!" Max told her.
"Don't be such a crab. Guess what?! You're gonna take me trick-or-treating." Dani said.
"Not this year, Dani." Max said.
"Mom said you have to." Dani told him.
"Well, she can take you." Max said.
"She and Dad are going to the party at Town Hall." Dani said.
"Well you're eight, go by yourself." Max said, getting up and going over to his drum kit before he started playing.
"No way! This is my first time! I'll get lost. Besides, it's a full moon outside. The weirdo's are out! Come on, Max. Couldn't you forget about being a cool teenager for one night? Please! Come on, we used to have so much fun together trick-or-treating. Remember? It'll be like old times." Dani pleaded with her older brother.
"Dani, the old days are dead." Max said, before continuing to play.
"It doesn't matter what you say, you're taking me!" Dani said.
"Wanna bet?" Max challenged, getting up and going to sit on the upper floor in his room, only to flinch when Dani let out a particularly shrill screech for their mother.
