On The Run - Part III

AN: Hi guysssss! I missed this story so much! First, I'd like to apologize for the wait. The last time I updated was September and up until December, I had no reason at all besides being lazy and without a proper way to continue.

If you follow me on Tumblr you probably already know this, but from mid-December until halfway through March, I got sick. Super sick with anemia, I had to be hospitalized for a few days, even got blood transfusion because of it so PLEASE, don't kid around with it: it is VERY DANGEROUS. My doctor didn't know how I didn't get neurological damage or how I didn't faint during my trip to Japan (I was super reckless to go, really but I didn't know then how dangerous it was) with how rough it was but now, after a long treatment (which involved many needles. MANY.) my levels are passable and I feel much better.

On a cheerier note: This chapter is dedicated to Giushia (who drew an INCREDIBLE fanart of Slytherin!Juvia) and Ccrispy (even though she hasn't read the story and drew Gryffindor!Lucy because she felt like it and it's just as great!). Both can be fount on their Instagram accounts, stop by and leave a like if you can! You'll be as amazed as I was! They are giu.shia and c_ccrispy there, which you guys already probably know! Thanks to both of you, I literally cried and you know that because I sent a pic. LOL

Off we go!

On The Run – Part III

#

Juvia lost no time and said 'Petrificus Totalus', knowing her boyfriend was too startled to do anything about the man standing there, whom, after being hit by the spell, tense and then fell backwards with a loud 'thud', which seemed to take Gray off his stupor.

"This can't be him." Gray whispered to himself, still sitting on the bed, eyes wide and too pale for Juvia's taste. "This can't... no, it's not him."

"Gray-sama, get up." Juvia told him, getting up from the bed and using a spell to change from her sleeping clothes to regular ones, in case they needed to run, which they probably did. "Gray-sama!"

Gray finally got up as well and when he was using the same spell to change his clothes, still looking at the man on the floor, the door busted open, Natsu, followed by Lucy entered the room, both with their wands up and looking ready to a battle.

"What was that sound?" Natsu asked.

"Are you okay?" Lucy wondered and she saw the older man on the floor, his eyes could move, so he looked at her and the blonde pointed her wand at him. "Who is he?"

"What in the bloody hell?" Natsu whispered to himself. "Do we know him? He looks familiar."

"He's using some fucking spell to look like my father!" Gray all but snarled in anger. "The bloody bastard!"

"Oh, man, that's messed up." Natsu lowered his wand slightly while Juvia lightened the candles around the room with a spell.

"Revelio." Lucy pointed to the man and nothing happened, so she did it again. "Revelio." When, once again, nothing happened, she looked over her shoulder. "Guys... he's not changing his appearance."

"He has to." Gray told them, finally taking a few steps closer to the man on the floor.

"Incarcerous." Lucy pointed her wand at him and ropes appeared around him, while Juvia kneeled and found his wand inside the inside pocket of his coat.

Juvia pushed his right sleeve up and saw the Dark Mark and her body froze – the last time she had seen one, had been Professor Yura and she had no fond memories of that man whatsoever. The man's eyes – the same dark ones as the man she loved, moved to stare at her and she glared at him. How dared he? How dared him to use the likeness of Gray's deceased father to torment them?

"He's a Death Eater." Juvia told the others and she looked over her shoulder, to her boyfriend, who was shaking his head.

"He must've taken Polyjuice Potion and it's wearing off." He told her.

"Yeah, mate, but Lucy just tried to reveal his identity and it didn't do a thing." Natsu told his friend and him, alongside Lucy were already dressed to leave, had just used a spell to change. "And she's good with those, she didn't mess it up."

Juvia got up and walked towards Gray and showed him the wand and by the way Gray paled, she knew he recognized right away.

"I... when I was five, dad left his wand unattended for a few minutes and I got it. Almost blew up half of the house." With trembling hands, Gray took the wand from Juvia. "Spruce wood, 11 inches, dragon heartstring." His finger traced the lines of the design. "When they died, I never found their wands. I thought they were taken by whoever killed them." Gray's face turned red as he got angrier by the second.

He took a few steps towards the man, his own wand pointing at him and Juvia put herself between them the moment he said: "Did you kill them? Did you kill my parents? Are you Deliora?"

"Gray-sama." Juvia put a hand on his chest and he shoved her away, not with enough force to hurt her, of course.

Everyone's eyes widened when Gray raised his want in the man's direction but before they could say anything, he said, angrily: "Finite Incantatem." The man's body unstiffened and he turned his head to look at Gray, who kneeled next to the man and grabbed him by the coat, pulling him up, wand on the man's cheek. "Did you kill my parents?" He yelled and Juvia's heart broke for him.

There was a moment of silence, both men looking into each other's eyes before the man said: "I did."

The three watching the scene raised their wand hands when Gray raised his, afraid of him using an Unforgivable Curse so they could stop him in time. Instead of doing that, though, Gray dropped his wand, closed his fist and hit the older man on the face, over and over again.

Juvia lowered her wand and put it inside her pocket while Natsu and Lucy did the same.

After a few punches, the man's face was bleeding and the only sound in the bedroom was of Gray's hard breathing. No one dared to break the silence.

"Dammit." Gray whispered and let go of the man's coat. "You thought... I wouldn't notice?" Juvia frowned in confusion. "But why, dammit!! You didn't kill my parents." A second later, Gray asked, his voice low. "You're my dad, right?"

The weight of the question hit Juvia's heart with its full force. Gray thought both his parents were dead. After all those years, learning one of them was still alive and... a Death Eater? The thoughts going through must've been crazy.

"Kill me if you want. I deserve it."

"Don't give me that crap!" Gray yelled again. "You really are my dad, right? What are you doing here? Why do you have a Dark Mark?"

Silver didn't answer right away. "You're right... I was... your father. But I ain't human anymore." Juvia saw Gray's whole body tense and he sat back on the floor, eyes wide with the revelation, even if he already knew what he was going to hear. "I'm a dead man. I have been dead for years now."

Whatever that meant, didn't matter at the moment because Gray got up so fast he almost hit Juvia in the process – she didn't even realized she was walking closer to him. She took a look at him, his eyes were wide, he was pale and he was shaking so much. All she wanted to do was get him into her arms.

Juvia touched his shoulder and asked softly: "Gray-sama?"

Without saying another word, Gray started to go towards the door and both Lucy and Natsu tried to stop him, but Juvia said, quietly: "Let him go." And while both hesitated, they nodded.

The moment Gray was gone from the room, Juvia's gaze went to the man on the floor and she narrowed her eyes.

He had a lot to answer.

Seated on a chair, still with the ropes around him and without his wand (it was still with Gray, while Gray's was with Juvia, she had picked it up when he punched his father) and his face clean, and forming purple bruises, Lucy, Natsu and Juvia discussed if they should wait for Gray to interrogate the man.

"We don't ask anything personal." Juvia told them. "Just about what's happening now."

"Fair enough." Natsu nodded. "If my dad had returned from the dead, I wouldn't be happy people learned about why before I did."

"Right, how do we do this?" Lucy asked.

"I can hear you three. I told you already, if I wanted you dead, you'd be." Silver sighed. "Just get on with it, we don't have much time, I still have to clear things up with Gray and be back before the Dark Lord misses me." He stopped for a moment. "Nah, He wouldn't miss me, but my other Master, will."

The trio frowned and stepped closer to him and Natsu asked. "What other Master?"

"I overheard you three talking. This falls within personal things Gray should know first."

They stayed in silence for a while and it was Lucy's turn to ask. "How did you know we were here?"

"Her." He pointed at Juvia with his chin.

"Me?" Juvia asked, surprised.

"Yes." He nodded and the Slytherin still thought it was uncanny how much he looked like her Gray-sama. "You, my dear, have pissed off Invel Yura a lot." Silver chuckled. "Good for you, he's a bloody wanker."

"That doesn't answer my question." Lucy crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him.

"My portrait saw Gray return to the house." Silver shook his head. "He shouldn't have, we had it under surveillance and just a few minutes after he left, a Death Eater appeared." Silver looked at the blonde. "Miss Heartfilia, I assume?" When she didn't say anything, Silver proceeded. "I'll take that as a 'yes'. Miss Heartfilia, your elf had found Gray and told him about the dragon pox, but that potion isn't cheap and it's even more expensive if you want to stay on the down low." He looked at Juvia. "I am glad you are cured. Gray was in such a state, he needed to find something to sell, my portrait asked about where he was going."

The story sounded plausible enough, but they still didn't trust him. Silver sighed. "Inside my left boot, there's a piece of canvas. Take a look."

"Who's gonna do it?" Natsu asked and both girls looked at him and he scowled. "You two suck."

Natsu unlaced the boot and after a moment, he found something and told the girls, so. He opened the small rolled canvas and after taking a look, he got up and went to show them.

It was a portrait of the Fullbusters – the same young Silver Juvia had 'met' a few months before, his arm around a pretty woman with soft featured, brown hair and beautiful blue eyes and a young dark haired baby in her arms. It was in such good condition – not a tear – they were all sure there was a spell surrounding the material.

"Hi, Juvia-chan." The portrait Silver said to her. "I heard the conversation and it was true. My other portrait told the real me about Gray being at the house and how he needed to get to you, faster."

"Is this her?" The woman in the portrait asked.

"Yes, dear, but not now, you can talk to her later." Portrait Silver said to her and then his attention returned to Juvia. "He is telling you the truth."

Juvia put the portrait inside her purse and saw Silver watch her do It like a hawk. "Why show up now? We've been here for almost a week."

"How would it look if I had just ran off when I heard my son's girlfriend was on the run?" Silver shrugged. "I needed to wait for instructions."

"And you had some?" Natsu asked and Silver nodded.

"More students fled Hogwarts." He smirked. "I think your posse got inspired when you left" he raised his chin in Juvia's direction "and they are bloody hard to find."

"Of course they are." Lucy said with pride.

"I was actually surprised on how you left. No clues whatsoever, Juvia-chan." He said. "No one saw or heard of you. How did you that? Was it your Death Eater training?"

Juvia's whole body went cold with those words. She stepped closer to the older man. "What happened back then, we didn't know it was for that. We'd never worked for You-Know-Who."

Silver looked her into the eyes and nodded. "Good, because the job sucks. I was forced into it. Still am. I would never become a part of something who took my wife and my son away from me, willingly."

"That's personal." Juvia said.

"Very."

She sighed. "Can you two watch him for a little while? Juvia needs to find Gray-sama."

The couple nodded and with a final look at the older man, she left the room.

Finding Gray wasn't as hard as he thought it would be: when stressed, he liked to be outside to have some fresh air. He was standing at the balcony that led to the beach, his elbows on the top rail, looking as the sun was starting to rise, the sky slowly turning dark orange.

He didn't look when she step closer to him, but she knew he had heard her by the way his body tensed.

Juvia stood next to him, looking to the sunrise with him until she saw his right hand, red because of the punches he had threw on his father. She looked inside her purse and found a shirt of hers (it would do just fine) and whispered a spell, making some ice cubes. She wrapped them inside the cloth and gently grabbed his hand, pressing it on his knuckles.

He hissed but that was the only sound in the balcony for a minute.

"I've been a orphan for ten years." Gray whispered, still looking away from her, lost in thought, as it seemed. "I... I had Ur and I had Lyon and we were a family, but didn't mean I wasn't an orphan." Juvia, wisely, chose to stay in silence until he finally looked his direction. "He was alive this whole time. Ten years and he was out there and now he is a Death Eater? I don't... I don't understand anything that's happening."

Juvia sighed. "Your world is upside down right now and none of it will make sense until he tells you what happened and why is he here." She put a hand on his cheek. "We won't listen to what he has to say without you there, if you even want us there."

"I don't know." Gray shook his head and moved his hand from Juvia's and after a quick exam, she made the threw the ice cubes away and used a spell to dry her shirt and just as she was putting it back inside her shirt, Gray asked: "How did he find us?"

With a sigh, Juvia pulled the rolled canvas. "Your father had this with him so he was informed when you went to get something you could sell to get money for Juvia's Dragon Pox. Thank you, by the way." She gave him a quick peck on the lips before she opened the portrait and gave it to Gray, who frowned until he looked at the portrait.

His eyes widened and the three people in said portrait stared sight back at him. "Hi, son." Portrait Silver said. "I am sorry for lying all these years, it was the only way."

It didn't seemed Gray heard him because he passed his thumb over the brown haired woman's face, while she looked at him with wide eyes. Down to the cute baby in her arms and back to Gray.

"Gray?" She finally asked in wander.

"Mom?" Gray's voice failed at the end when the tears started to well up in his eyes. "Mom."

"Oh, my handsome boy." She smiled and kissed the baby's head as if doing so, she'd be kissing his grown-up version. "Your father said you looked like a lot like him when he was younger, but you are much more handsome."

"Mika!" Portrait Silver fake-whined.

Gray's tears were falling by then – he was told there was no portrait of his mother and while he had his father, seeing and talking to his mother, even like that meant the world do him – and he was shaking, repeating "Mom, mom, mom" over and over again, hugging the portrait and the looking at it again and he started to go down to his knees and Juvia helped him. He was crying so hard, Juvia could barely understand him.

It was so bittersweet.

"I have heard all you've done, Gray and you are everything I hope you'd become." Mika was crying too at that point. "I am so sorry I wasn't there to look after you, that I wasn't there to see you grow into this amazing man you are."

"It's not your fault." Gray shook his head, thick tears falling. "I needed you. I needed both of you, but I know it wasn't your fault. You wanted the war to end."

"We slowed it down. Now you will be facing the true war, Gray." Mika had the same look of determination Juvia remembered Gray having, even if the only physical features they shared were the nose and cheekbones. "You are a Gryffindor, Gray, but it doesn't mean you won't be afraid. No one will blame you if you don't want to be a part in this. War is scary, war leads to death and pain. But it can also protect those who can't fight, protect who you love." She looked again to the baby who cooed happily at his mother and Juvia hoped if they ever had children, that they would be just as cute.

"We joined the fight so you can have a future, but it seems you'll still have to fight. I can't protect you any longer, but I want you to know that from the moment I knew of you, the second I held you, the moment you looked at me, all those times I knew there wouldn't be anything I wouldn't do for you. And I just have absolutely certain my last thought, before I died was how lucky I was to have had you, no matter for how long." Mika said and Gray nodded, crying harder. "I was a Hufflepuff, you know that and we are loyal and I know you got that from me, son, so whenever your loyalties lie, you will fight with all your strength." Gray nodded again. "That's my brave, sweet boy."

Juvia dried her own tears and Mika finally looked at her direction. "You must be the famous Juvia. My husband's other painting is all praises." Mika seized Juvia up the best she could and, the honesty of a Hufflepuff, she asked: "Are you good enough for my son?"

A little taken aback with the question, just like Gray was, it took the blunette to answer, a simple "No." She could see in her peripherical vision as Gray looked at her in surprise. "He deserves much better but Juvia is selfish and she won't let him go unless he wants to go." She admitted it.

Mika narrowed her eyes, judging Juvia's answer before she smiled at Gray's direction. "I like this one."

Gray looked at Juvia and, for the first time since they woke up, he offered her a small smile. "I do too."

They talked a little longer, getting to know one another and it was a delight to talk to Gray's parents' even it through a portrait. But time waited for no one.

Gray looked at Juvia and said: "Let's go talk to him. We need answers."
