I slowly open my eyes before quickly sitting up. I feel something on my hands making me look down at them to see leaves coating my hands. I look around in confusion pulling the leaf off of my neck. I grab the quiver of arrows looking through them. That's when I feel someone watching me. I look up to see someone hiding behind a tree. I stand up putting the quiver and bow on my back and picking up my machete. I slowly walk over to the tree and stand on the other side of it. "Rue?" She slowly peaks out from behind the tree. I slowly kneel down to her level. "It's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you."

We catch a squirrel and cook it before quickly putting out the fire. As we're eating she finishes her part pretty fast. "You want mine, too?" I ask holding it out to her. "No, that's okay." Rue said and I laugh. "Here." I say putting it in her hand. "Thanks." Rue said "How long was I asleep?" I ask "Couple of days. I changed your leaves twice." Rue said "Thank you. So what happened while I was out?" I ask "The girl from One and the boy from Ten." Rue said "And the boy from my district?" I ask "Yeah, he's okay. I think he's down by the river. Is all of that true?" Rue asked smiling at me. "What?" I ask "You and him?" Rue asked and I laugh. "So where are Cato and the others?" I ask "They got all their supplies down by the lake. It's piled up in this great big pyramid." Rue said "That sounds tempting." We lay down to go to sleep and Rue curls up to my side. She falls asleep pretty quickly but I just stare up at the sky.

The next morning we start putting our plan in motion. We collect green tree limbs to create smoke to draw Cato and the others away from their supply pyramid. "Now, this green stuff is gonna smoke like crazy, so as soon as you light it, move on to the next fire. Light this one last, and I'll meet you back over there." I say "Right." Rue said "And then I'll destroy their stuff while they're chasing us." I say "We need a signal in case one of us gets held up." Rue said "Okay. Like what?" I ask and she looks down at my mockingjay pin. "Here. Watch this." Rue said and she sings out and mockingjays sings back. "Mockingjays. That's great." I say "Back home, we use them to signal all the time. You try." I whistle and the birds call back. "Okay, so if we hear that, it means we're okay and we'll be back real soon." Rue said "We're gonna be okay." She hugs me tightly and I hug her back. "Hey, I'll see you for supper." I say pulling away from her. "Okay." Rue said "Okay." I say and I make my way to where Cato and the others have their supply pyramid.

I hide in the woods watching them gripping my machete. I see the three remaining Careers and the male from District Three. Marvel starts reacting to the smoke. "Guys. Guys, look! Over here. Come on, come on. Look!" Marvel said "Let's go! You stay guard and don't move until we get back." Cato said and he and the other Careers run off leaving Three by himself. I smirk to myself at this because now I have a better chance to go through with the plan. I move to a better place to be able to see and I look around the pyramid and notice the pedestal mines that been dug up and smirk knowing what I could do. The tribute from Five comes running up and jumps around the mines and to the back of the pyramid. She takes off running behind Three making him stand up looking around. He walks away from the pyramid and I see a bag of apples at the top of the pyramid.

I careful draw an arrow, notching it before taking a deep breath and exhaling it while releasing the arrow. It cuts a hole in the bag but not even to cause the apples to roll out. I carefully look around before stepping out of the woods a little bit. I notch another arrow and once again take a deep breath before releasing the arrow and this time it cuts enough so the apples can roll out. As soon as the arrow hits the bag, I take off running back to the woods. I make it to the woods and fall down covering my ears as the first apple hits the mines. After the explosion is over, I hide behind some bushes watching as the Careers make their way back to their now nonexistent pyramid. Cato walks over to the District Three Tribute snapping his neck making me quickly jump up and go running through the woods. I run through the woods further away from them before stopping and whistling and the mockingjays make the noise back. I listen for Rue's call but don't hear it so I whistle again. I walk through the woods trying to find her but come across the last fire signal that hadn't been light.

"Ophelia!" I started running in the direction I hear her voice. "Ophelia! Ophelia, help! Ophelia!" I make my way to where she's at. She's tied up in a net. "Ophelia! Help! Ophelia!" Rue yelled and I run over to her taking my dagger out as I do. "It's okay. It's okay." I quickly cut the net from around her and she hugs me. "You're okay. You're okay. You're fine. See?" I hear movement behind me and I quickly notch and release it as Marvel throws a spear. My arrow hits Marvel in the throat and once he falls, I turn around to face Rue and she's pulling the spear out of her chest. Rue starts falling and I quickly catch her laying her head in my lap. Tears instantly cloud my vision and run down my face. "It's okay. You're okay. You're okay. You're okay." I say trying to convince myself and her. "Did you blow up the food?" Rue asked "Every bit of it." I say "Good. You have to win." I look up at Marvels body. "Can you sing?" Rue asked and I nod. "Okay. Deep in the meadow. Under the willows. A bed of grass. A soft green pillow. Lay down your head and close your eyes and when they open, the sun..." I stop singing when I see her breathing stop. I close her eyes and kiss her forehead. I start crying a little harder. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." I zip up her jacket before carefully sitting her head on the ground and moving to her side. I see the spear sitting there and I pick it up throwing it away from us. "Fuck!" I yell out before putting my head in my hands.

I get up and go find flowers and arrange them on her chest with her holding them. I kiss her forehead again before standing up walking a little ways away before turning back towards a camera. I raise three fingers to my lips before holding them in the air. I walk away from her body and find a place that I can hide before falling to the ground crying. I wipe the stuff off of my hands crying in the process. After the tears have ran out, I just sit staring at the forest floor. I start quietly singing a song my dad taught me when I was little. "You can't take my past. You can't take my history. You could take my pa but his name's a mystery. Nothing you can take from me – was ever worth keepin'. Nothing you can take – was ever worth keepin'. You can't take my charm. You can't take my humor. You can't take my wealth. 'Cause it's just a rumor. Nothin' you can take was ever worth keepin'. You can't take my sass. You can't take my talkin'." I sing but before I finish the song the voice comes through the arena. "Attention, Tributes, Attention." I look up listening to the announcer. "The regulations requiring a single victor have been suspended. From now on, two victors may be crowned, if both originate from the same district. This will be the only announcement." The voice said before it cuts out. "Peeta." I say before I take off towards the river.

Hope y'all like this chapter. Sorry that it's so short and sorry it's been forever since I updated. The reason it's so short is because there's only about 30 minutes left in the movie after this chapter and I want to be able to have a couple more chapters. I'm not entirely sure when I'll be able to update again because college is starting tomorrow.
