Chapter 15

I was sitting on the ground, playing with my toys as someone knocked on the door. I looked over curiously and squeaked in fear when my mom opened the door and I saw two police officers.

"We got reports of child abuse in this house," one of them said. "Can we take a walk around?"

My mom looked hesitant for a moment before letting them in. They glanced at me and looked around at our small home.

"Can we talk to you alone?" One of them asked and I shook my head quickly.

"You're scary," I said.

"Just for a little bit?" The girl asked. "I promise we'll be nice."

I nodded slowly and followed them outside.

"Alright, what's your name?" She asked.

"Gee," I replied quietly, hugging my blankie.

"Your full name," she clarified.

"Gerard Way," I said.

"How old are you?" The man asked.

"I just turned eighteen," I said.

They were quiet for a moment and I looked around nervously.

"Is that tattoo new?" She asked.

I looked down at the tattoo and nodded.

"My Mama gave it to me," I said.

"Is she your mom?" The girl asked and I nodded. "Did you want the tattoo?"

"No, I don't like," I denied.

"So, she forced you to get a tattoo?" The man asked.

"I was being a bad boy, it was my fault," I said.

"How long have you been living with her?" He asked.

"I lived with her for alls of my life," I said. "But then she went away to jail but she got out and she finded me at school and we ran away together."

"Come here, sweetheart, do you wanna ride in a police car?" The lady asked as the man went inside.

"No, I wanna stay here with Mama," I said. "She's gonna be mad at me."

"Come on, we'll get you some candy if you want," she said.

She held my hand and led me over to the police car. I sat in the backseat nervously as we drove. We got to the police station and I bit my lip as I looked around.

"Here, do you have someone you can call?" She asked, handing me a phone.

"I can't remember my dad's phone number," I said.

"Where are you from?" She asked.

"New Jersey," I said. "That's where I live with my dad and brother and soon my brother's baby too, his boyfriend's growing a baby in his tummy."

"Where are you from?" She asked.

I furrowed my eyebrows, trying to remember.

"B-Belleville," I said.

She nodded, getting on a phone behind a desk.

"This the the New York City police department," she said. "We have a kid here who says he's from your town. His name's Gerard Way, he lives there with his dad and brother...you have a missing person report filed for him? Well, we found him...alright, thank you."

She hung up and I looked around nervously.

"Your dad is on his way to pick you up," she said. "It might be awhile, do you wanna watch some tv?"

I nodded and she brought me over to a room with a tv, turning on some cartoons. I stayed there for a little bit eating candy until the door opened and I looked over at my dad.

"Gee, oh my god," he said.

He hurried over and held me tight.

"Oh god, I was so worried," he said.

I held his hand as we went out to the car.

"Where's Mikey?" I asked.

"He's waiting at home," he said. "I thought I lost you again, I was so scared."

"Mama took me to a new home," I said.

My dad glanced over and his eyes widened when he saw my arm.

"You have a tattoo?!" He shrieked.

"Mama gave it to me because I was being a bad boy," I said.

He didn't say anything and I curled up into a little ball, sucking my thumb as I fell asleep. It wasn't until a little bit later when I was woken up as my dad tucked me into bed. My eyes peeked open as I yawned, watching him leave when Ray walked in.

"Can I see him?" Ray asked.

"He needs to rest," my dad stated.

"I want him," I whispered.

My dad nodded, leaving and shutting the door. Ray sat down beside me, running his fingers through my hair.

"M-mad at me?" I whimpered.

"No, of course I'm not mad at you," he denied. "I was so worried, you were gone for a week."

I scooched over in the bed, holding the blanket up for him. Ray cuddled up beside me and I wrapped my arms around him.

"I missed you," I said.

"I missed you too," he said.

I leaned up to look at him.

"Can we have kissies?" I asked.

"If you want to," he said.

I nodded my head and Ray pulled me closer, pressing his lips against mine. I kissed back softly, feeling the little butterflies in my stomach. His hands held my hips, holding my body close to his.

"Ray?" I whispered and he hummed in response. "Where's my Mama?"

He sighed quietly, running a hand down his face.

"She's gonna go back to jail, Gee," he said. "What she did was a very bad thing."

I sniffled, resting my head on his chest.

"Hey, what's this?" Ray asked quietly.

He held my wrist gently and looked at my tattoo.

"Mama gave it to me because I'm a monster," I said.

"You're not a monster," he denied. "You're perfect, you're a little angel."

"Frankie's a angel," I said. "And his angel job is to protect me."

"Is that so?" Ray asked, an amused smile on his face.

"Yeah and he had to go to angel school with all the other angels," I said. "He hasn't shown me his wings yet but I bet he has them. And when we die we're gonna get to go angel school. I can't wait, it sounds like so much fun."

Ray furrowed his eyebrows as he sat up.

"Did you just say you can't wait until you die?" He asked and I nodded happily. "Gee, no, don't say that. You can't die."

"B-but I wanna go to angel school," I said. "And then I can be with Frankie forever."

Ray wrapped his arms around me, holding me tight.

"Get some rest," he whispered. "You've had a lot of excitement this past week."

I nodded and he kissed the top of my head before tucking me into bed. Ray left and I heard his footsteps down the hall.

"I think Gee should go see his therapist," Ray said.

"I know that, but is there a certain reason for that?" My dad asked.

"He told me he couldn't wait until he died so that way he can go to angel school," Ray stated.

"Fuck, he was telling us a while ago that after we die we go to angel school before getting angel jobs," my dad said. "He's been saying some weird stuff recently."

"I put him to bed now, maybe he'll be feeling better when he wakes up," Ray said.

I heard footsteps as Frank held my hand.

"Do they not believe me?" I asked, turning to look at him.

"I don't know, baby," he said.

"B-but I'm telling the truth," I whimpered.

"I know you are," Frank said.

"When am I gonna die?" I asked.

"I don't know, baby," he said. "Maybe you'll love a very long, happy life."

"But then I'll be an old angel," I complained.

"No, all the angels are young again," Frank said.

"Are there little baby angels too?" I asked.

"Yes, there's little baby angels and little kitty angels," he said. "And everyone there is so nice, nobody is mean to each other."

"Really?" I gasped excitedly. "That must be so cool, the other kids at school are mean to me. 'Specially the fifth graders, they're weally mean because they're the oldest kids in the school."

"Well, now you're the oldest kid," Frank said.

"But there's only one of me," I said sadly. "I wish I had, like, another me. And then me and me can be best friends and no one would make fun of us because they're too jealous of us being such best friends."

"God, you're the cutest," Frank said.

He held me close and I giggled, resting my head on his chest. Frank's hand rubbed my back softly and I yawned. I glanced down to my tattoo and my eyes watered.

"I'm a monster," I whimpered. "Monsters don't get to go to angel school to become angels. I'm never gonna be an angel."

"Yes you are, you're not a monster," Frank said. "You're my beautiful little angel and I love you more than anything in the world."

"I love you too," I said. "Do we get to go to angel school together?"

"No, I already went through it," Frank said. "But as soon as you're done then we will get to be together forever."

"Really?" I asked hopefully and he smiled and nodded. "Sounds nice."

My finger trailed along his tie as I yawned. I opened his jacket, pulling out Dee so I could hug her tight.

"I'm gonna be an angel?" I asked and he nodded. "Will Dee get to be an angel too?"

"Yeah, she'll get to be an angel too," Frank said. "She just has to wait until you go to heaven to be an angel too."

"Can I see your angel wings?" I asked.

Frank sat up and I gasped when wings unfolded from behind him. I straddled his hips, my fingers running over his wings.

"Oh daddy, you're so pretty," I said.

I giggled happily, giving him a kiss.

"I can't wait until I get my wings," I said. "Can you fly?"

"Not here," Frank said. "But up in heaven I can fly."

I bit my lip sadly as I looked down. I didn't wanna wait so long to become an angel, I wanted to be one soon.
