Chapter 12

Idk but smth that gets on my nerves is when ppl say that "frank can't lift up gee because he's too short" but size doesn't equal strength, and short people can build more muscle without being super bulky so he could be strong but just not as noticeable and plus he does lift weights and stuff and there's a video where he literally dragged ray like a fucking tank so don't say he's weak because he's short

I sat at the table with my dad and Mr. McDonald.

"So," my teacher started, "let's talk about summer school."

"I don't know if I want Gee in summer school," my dad said. "I mean, I finally have him back, I was hoping to spend our first summer together going on vacations and stuff."

"Well, the classes would only be until the end of July so you would get an entire month off," Mr. McDonald said. "And I would be his teacher too."

"Can I have time to think about it?" My dad asked. "I mean, my son finally has a chance to be like a regular kid, I don't really want him being shoved into a school until he's legally old enough to drink."

Mr. McDonald nodded and I looked between him.

"The other thing is that I think Gee may learn better in a class full of other kids," he said. "There would be more structure and there'd be a chance for group learning, which is seen to be more efficient for people like him."

"But he isn't able to be with the other students," my dad said. "They're far too advanced for him."

"I was talking to the second grade teachers, one of them would be willing to take him into her class," Mr. McDonald said.

"Second grade?" My dad asked.

"What's that?" I asked.

My dad sighed, patting my back.

"You can take him now if you'd like," Mr. McDonald said. "We can finish out the rest of the school year with him in second grade. If you don't like it then next year you can bring him back here or next year he'd be allowed into third grade."

My dad nodded standing up. The two shook hands and stuff before I walked out. We got into the car and drove to another building that looked like a school. The inside was different though, there were pretty pictures on the walls and fun colored pillows on the bench.

"You must be Mr. Way," a lady said. "I'll show out to the classroom."

I held my dad's hand as I looked around nervously. We got to a classroom where I saw children talking and playing. A lady walked up to us and she smiled. She was young and pretty with dark hair and pretty blue eyes.

"You must be Gee," she said and I nodded. "Hello, sweetheart, my name's Miss Sarah, in your new teacher."

"B-but what 'bout my old school?" I asked. "What's about Ray and Mikey?"

"You'll still get to see them," he said.

"Come here, we've got your desk right here," she said.

I followed her over as some of the kids stared at me. There was a big name tag stuck to the desk that said my name and hand little designs around it. She opened up the desk and I saw folders and crayons and markers and pencils.

"Mikey is going to pick you up after school," my dad said.

"And Pete with his baby?" I asked hopefully.

"Probably," my dad said. "Good luck."

He kissed my cheek before leaving.

"We're so excited to have you here," Miss Sarah said. "We were just working on cursive."

"Wh-what's that?" I asked.

"It's sort of like fancy lettering," she said.

She gave me a paper that had letters on it and showed me how to write it.

"Miss Sarah!" Someone called.

"Just work on this, okay?" She asked before walking off.

I sat down at my desk that was pushed with others to make a table.

"Why are you in second grade?" Some girl who had two missing front teeth asked.

I shrugged my shoulder, drawing the letters.

"Are you a boy?" Some little boy asked and I nodded. "And you wear dresses?"

"Yes," I said.

"That's cool," he said.

"Yeah, it is," the other boy at the table agreed. "I wanted to wear a dress one time but my daddy got upset and hit me."

"My daddy doesn't care when I wear dresses," the girl said.

I looked at their name tags in interest, maybe they'll be my friends. The girl was named Suzy, the boy with the upset dad was Chris and the other boy was named Joey.

"What school did you go to before?" Suzy asked.

"I was in high school," I said. "They sent me here instead because it's could be better for me."

I furrowed my eyebrows, trying to write a cursive F.

"What's cursive?" I asked.

"It's how old people write," Suzy said and I giggled.

I finished my worksheet with everyone else and looked around.

"After this we have story time," Chris said.

"Story time is my favorite," Joey said.

Soon we were all sitting on the ground in front of Miss Sarah as she read a story. I smiled happily, looking around at the drawings and projects on the walls.

The day went by fast and I grabbed my backpack as everyone walked out towards the buses.

"Gee, can you stay after class?" Miss Sarah asked.

I went up to her, wringing my hands nervously.

"W-was I being a bad boy?" I asked.

"No, of course not," she denied. "I was just going to show you your cubby."

We walked over to the cubby boxes and I saw the one with my name on it.

"This is where you'll put your backpack," she said. "How was your first day? It was only a half day so it shouldn't have been too hard."

"I liked it, it's fun," I said.

"How are the kids you sit with?" She asked. "I asked people who would like to sit next to you and the three of them wanted to."

"I like them, they're nice," I said. "Does that's means we're friends now?"

"Yeah, I think so," Miss Sarah said. "You better get going now and catch up with your brother."

I nodded my head, hurrying out to Mikey's car.

"How was your first day?" Pete asked.

"It was fun," I said. "I made some friends, they're nice."

"That's good," Mikey said.

"Can I go to Ray's house?" I asked. "I wanna tell him about my first day."

Mikey nodded and dropped me off. I went up to his front door and knocked, smiling when he opened the door.

"Hey, Gee," he said, opening the door wider to let me in. "Where were you at school?"

"I go to a new school now," I said. "They puted me into second grade."

"Oh, that sounds fun," he said.

I followed him into the kitchen where he grabbed a pop can for himself and poured me some apple juice into a glass.

"We had story time and writing," I said.

I reached into my backpack and pulled out my cursive worksheet.

"Look!" I said proudly.

Ray smiled and looked at it.

"Good job, Gee," he praised, petting my head as I smiled proudly. "You should put this on the fridge when you get home."

I smiled and nodded, putting it away.

"When's Pete gonna be finished growing his baby?" I asked.

"Not for a while, Gee," Ray said.

I noticed something leaning against the wall that was metal and had wheels.

"What's this?" I asked.

"That's my bike," he said and I looked at him in confusion. "Come here."

He grabbed the bike and I followed him out to the driveway.

"Hop on," he said, patting the seat. "Put your feet on the pedals."

I got on, looking at him nervously. Ray kept the bike upright and smiled.

"Alright, pedal," he said.

"No, I'm gonna fall," I whimpered.

"You won't, I've got you," he promised.

I pedaled slowly, the handlebars shaking.

"Don't let go," I said.

"I won't," Ray said.

I rode the bike for a little bit as he kept holding on and I really felt like I was starting to get the hang of it.

"Look at me, Ray!" I cheered. "Look at me! I'm biked, Ray!"

I looked back but saw he wasn't holding onto me anymore. I shrieked, the bike wobbling as I fell down. I cried, looking at me scraped knee as Ray hurried to my side. He picked me up, carrying me inside to the bathroom as he set me on the counter.

"Y-you promised you wouldn't let go!" I sobbed.

"I'm sorry, Gee, I thought you could do it on your own," he said.

Ray grabbed a wet towel, cleaning my scrape as I hissed in pain. He put a band-aid over it and I smiled. Ray carried me to the living room, turning on the tv as I looked at him nervously.

"C-can we watch Hello Kitty?" I asked.

"Yeah, of course," he said.

He did some things on the tv before Hello Kitty started playing. I smiled, snuggling up to his side as I rested my head on his shoulder.

"You're nice," I said, grabbing my blankie.

"Thanks, Gee," he said.

I smiled and looked up at him. I couldn't help myself, I leaned up and pressed my lips against his. After a moment, Ray kissed me back softly and I felt my heart flip in the way it only has with Frank. I pulled away, my eyes widening.

"No, Frankie's gonna be so mad at me!" I cried.

"Gee, it's okay if you don't wanna kiss," Ray said quietly. "But Frank won't be mad at you for moving on."

"Yes he will," I said. "Oh no, I don't wanna go home, he's gonna be mad at me."

"Gee, Frank is dead, he won't be at your house to be mad at you," Ray stated.

"I know he's dead but he's an angel now," I said. "And he comes to me when I'm alone because he's too scared of their people. Text him, you'll see."

Ray sighed, shaking his head as he pulled out his phone and typed something.

"See, it says the number was disconnected," Ray said.

I frowned, grabbing my own phone to text him.

GeeBear: I love you

Daddy: I love you too, baby

"See," I said proudly, showing him my phone.

"Gee, it says the number was disconnected," he said.

"No it doesn't!" I cried.

I couldn't help myself, my body seemed to move on its own as I punched him in the face. Ray gasped, holding his nose as he bled.

"Gee, come on, let's just talk for a little bit," he said.

I got up, grabbing my backpack as I ran away.
