Bryce?
We all glanced at each other but our attention soon fell right back to Bryce and Luke.
"What do you mean?" I spoke up.
Luke checked the street and pushed Bryce to them, "I'm going to continue to stall him, you explain what's going on to them."
Before Bryce could even comprehend what Luke said, he ran off. He turned back to us and said, "O-Okay. Well when you all left, Luke and I decided to try and take care of Ryan, but he wouldn't listen to us. We thought that maybe if he slept it off he would be fine, but he never fell asleep. We didn't realize till we woke up and he had guns to our heads. He said if we didn't listen to him, he'd kill us...and...a-and..."
Bryce began to cry. He said it himself: Ryan was his best friend, and to wake up with them having a gun to his head and threaten him that he might kill him...it just took a toll on him.
Jon walked to him and hugged him. After a while of him crying on his shoulder, Jon said, "And what, Bryce?"
He sniffles and continued, "And h-he said that he sent out a warning for everyone to leave town silently. He targeted your guys houses specifically and made sure you guys didn't even know people left."
"How the fuck did he do that?" Scotty questioned.
"Cell phone alerts and television signals." I answered, "Nearly everyone has a phone with them and if not, signals for tv's can come on and blare out whatever Ryan wanted it to."
"Yeah, but people have cables and not everyone has a cellphone." Evan said.
"Yeah but if something were to happen and people could be in danger, family and friends would try and help people they care about." I explained.
"How come our neighbors didn't tell us?" Brock asked.
I shrugged, "May depend on how close you are with them. Plus, Bryce said that Ryan told everyone to leave silently, so when they probably thought that since they got it, you guys got it too."
"But that still doesn't explain why there were no stories or reports on it." Craig added.
"I don't know what Ryan put in the alert, but it could've said not to do reports or anything until further notice." I said, "If he was able to get to everyone's houses, people probably thought it was a city or state thing, and no reporter wants to get fired."
Everyone nodded, finally having a small understanding of what might have happened.
"Wait, so everyone just walked out of town?" David asked.
I looked at Bryce and he said, "That's what Ryan said, but I don't know if everyone left. That's why he wants Luke and I to search everywhere. That and to find you guys but we don't want to tell him we found you."
Everyone looked at each other, not sure what to do. There weren't any questions we could ask Bryce that would help us better understand the situation.
"Why us?" Tyler asked.
We all looked at him, then at Bryce. He voice was weak, but he said, "Because you were the first to get away," he said looking at us then at his former partners, "and you guys left."
After a little bit of thinking, Anthony broke the silence by saying, "Well, what do we do now? I don't want to die and he knows where we all live."
"There are three people looking for us and two of them aren't cooperating with the one who's actually trying to find us." Marcel responded, "Plus, this city is huge. If we run now, it's very unlikely that we'll run into Ryan."
"I don't know about you," Chrissy interrupted, "but pregos over here ain't gonna be running fast."
That's when I realized that none of these girl were anywhere near qualified to be in this situation as far as I know.
"Running is literally all we have;" Evan said, "Ryan has two hostages and weapons and we're all still in pajamas."
We sat for a moment and Bryce looked at his watch, "I've got to. Ryan might get upse-"
"Bryce," I interrupted looking at his watch, "where did you get that watch?"
"Okay this is no time to-" Jon started to say but slapped him to him shut up.
"Oh," he said and started to take it off, "Its yours. It was on the table next to you when Ryan got you from the hospital and he grabbed it for me."
He gave it to me and I put it on, turning to on. "Bryce, you just saved our lives."
"What?" Everyone asked.
I pressed the button that should send harmless electrons throughout my body and make me seem invisible but it's really just a virtual window covering me.
I saw everyone's eyes widen and said, "What's wrong? Looks like ya'll saw a ghost."
After everyone standing in awe for a few moments, but Simone said, "Okay, so that covers you, but what about us?"
I grabbed Tyler and B.R.I.A.N.'s arms and everyone watched as the effect on me spread to them. They were really confused, but soon understood when them saw me.
"It can stretch to eighty plus size people and will last up to 48 hours." I said, "I think we're good."
"So we just have to hold hands until we get to only god knows where?" Marcel asked.
"Pretty much." I answered.
He sighed and said, "Tyler, where's your hand?"
Tyler grabbed Marcel's hand and he grabbed Simone's before the effect took place. Simone grabbed Chrissy's hand and she grabbed Scotty's who grabbed Anthony's and so on and so forth.
When all nineteen people were invisible and connected, we looked at Bryce and waited for him to say something. He opened his mouth, but a familiar voice screamed at him.
"Bryce," Ryan howled as he came into the view of the alley way, "what are you looking at?"
We didn't dare move, hoping that he didn't even hear us breathe. He was outlined with guns; he had holsters all over his body and completely filled with guns.
Luke walked behind him and looked over his shoulder, surprised to see an empty alleyway.
"I thought I heard something." Bryce answered, "Sorry it too so long."
He rolled his eyes and said, "Whatever, Bryce. Just move."
He nodded and he took his place next to Luke, behind Ryan. They all walked off and we headed the other direction. B.R.I.A.N. lead the pack to away from them, waiting for someone to say stop. We got to the convenient store that that one guy flirted with me and I pulled him to a halt.
"There." I said and motioned to it with my head. B.R.I.A.N. knew what I meant and lead us to it. We got inside and hid behind the shelves near the bathrooms and unhanded each other.
"Why here?" Lui asked.
I shrugged, "Why not?"
I inspected the area and didn't see any sign of anything good. Drinks where just sitting around and the cash register was wide open.
"The signal must've came during the nightshift's lunch break." Lauren said pointed to the many drinks and small snacks laying around on the ground, as in someone just dropped them and left.
"No offense ladies," David said, making everyone turn to him, "but I think you guys should stay and hid in the bathrooms."
I looked at the bathrooms then at the ladies. They didn't seem to disagree but they didn't look too happy either.
"That's understandable." Simone said, kissed Marcel on the cheek and walked to the bathroom. She opened the door and waited for the others to walk in as well.
Soon all the girlfriends and wives went to the bathroom and I heard Tyler groan before he said, "Y/N, I love you."
I knotted my eyebrows. Why did he say that know? I turned around, "Wha-"
He grabbed my wrist and before I knew it, I felt him push me and I fell onto the floor. I looked at saw the other girls and realized I was in the bathroom. I gasped, stood up, and turned just in time to see the door close. I started to bang on it the moment I heard a click.
"Tyler, you little bastard!" I screamed, "Open the fucking door! What the fuck do you think you're doing? Tyler!"
I heard mumbling, but that didn't stop me from trying to open the door. I looked at my wrist and was quite for a second when I saw he took my watch.
"Tyler, you don't even know how to fucking use that!" I continued, "Let me out! Why did you put me in here? Tyler!"
After I screamed for a bit more. I stopped and didn't hear anything. They left. I slid down the door and sighed when I reached the floor. I looked at the other women and they also looked upset about the fact that Tyler put me in here.
"Sorry you had to see that." I said.
"Tyler's so fucking stupid." Simone growled.
"Yeah," Chrissy joined in, "why the hell would he put you in here? You're the only one who's put two and two together so far."
I didn't move or say anything. But Lauren answered for me.
"He was scared for her." She said, "Its not the first time she risked her life for him. He doesn't want that to happen again."
"Yeah, but he could've at least asked you if you could stay instead of just pushing you into the fucking restroom." Jaclyn commented.
"Yeah, that was an ass move." Emily agreed.
I looked at them and smiled, "That's what I get for dating a fucking asshole, but I love him too much to hurt him...too bad."
That earned me some laughs. I stood up and walked over to them.
"So I guess we're stuck in here until further notice." Simone stated.
Everyone nodded and we all took a seat on the floor. It was a rather large bathroom, considering it was for a small store. There was about eight stalls and four sinks in all and it was surprisingly very clean. I looked at the women as we all just sat and got to know each other.
"Where did you work before all this?" Melina asked.
I watched as all the girls turned their attention to me. I awkwardly laughed and said, "I never had a real job in all honesty. I missed a lot of school back in high school and due to my attendance, no place really wanted to hire me. I finally got a job at McDonalds but that didn't last very long, plus I never got a good pay. When my ex and I broke up, it was hard because he kind of stabbed me."
"What?" Everyone asked, wide eyed.
I lifted my sleeve to show the scar. "Anyway, after that, I was manly in the hospital which made me lose my job. I went to the bank one day to see if I could get a loan and that's when I saw my first robbery and thought that it didn't look that hard. That's when I used my knowledge of technology and started stealing."
They all sat there for a second then Simone went, "Well damn, Y/N, how the hell are we supposed to go from that?"
I laughed, "It's not my fault that happened to me out of literally everyone on earth."
Chrissy was so intrigued by my life because of all the events. She asked, "So when di-"
The door behind me burst open and we all jumped to our feet. We turned and waited and Mr. Bunny Man himself walked in.
He licked his lips when he saw us and said, "Hello ladies." as he pointed the gun to us.
We were all paralyzed with fear and froze, but I had enough of my thoughts in me to figure I need to protect these girls.
"How did you find us?" I asked, trying to be confident but everyone knew that I wasn't.
He smiled, "A little birdie told me. Or should I say, a little owl."
My breathing hitched. Evan then walked in and Bryce and Luke sadly followed behind. Something was weird about Evan though and that's why I didn't lash out on him. His brown eyes were now completely white. It was quite terrifying in all honesty.
"What did you do to him?" I questioned.
He chuckled, "Why are you trying to sound like you're the one with the gun?"
I was going to say there was no way he was going to shoot us, but I wasn't going to risk that for these women.
After no one responded. He motioned to the door with his head, "Move. And listen to everything I say, or you'll have a bullet in your head." He smiled and thoughtlessly walked over, flailing the gun around then pointed it at Lauren's stomach. "Don't think you're safe little one." He mocked.
"You leave them the hell alone." I said, getting in front of her, "They did nothing to you. The only person who's done anything to you in this room was me and you're just mad about it because you know I can do it again."
Why the fuck did I say that? When did I suddenly lose the ability to close my mouth? I can't do that again; I have zero weapons and too many people to worry about in this room.
He nodded in agreement and realization and pointed the gun to my head. The cold from the metal of the gun gave me chills. "Good point." He said and took off the safety.
"No!" Luke yelled. To my surprise, he didn't shoot, but instead he put the gun down and turned around to him.
"What?" Ryan asked.
"This is enough Ryan." Luke said, "This has gone on too long. All you want is revenge on people who don't even remember you from high school! You held a grudge on all these people for over nineteen years!" The room was silent and Ryan didn't say anything. I glanced at the mirror and his expression near changed; it was emotionless. "When are you going to learn that this isn't going to help anyone?" Luke finished after he pushed pass Evan and Bryce.
Sill silent. No one moved, said anything, or even seemed to breathe. I looked at the mirror and saw Ryan lick his lips.
"You know, Luke," he said after what felt like forever, "I always thought you slowed me down and wasted my time." He lifted the gun back up and pointed it at his gut, "Guess I don't have to worry about that anymore."
I turned and made all the girls near me turn around. I looked back and saw Ryan about to pull the trigger.
"No!" I screamed when the loud shot rang out.
The room was soon stunk of gunpowder and blood. My vision became blurry, but so knew Luke wasn't the one shot. The gun feel the the floor and echoed throughout the bathroom.
Luke was paralyzed and couldn't move from his spot next the Evan who was now back to his normal self due to the roar of the gun. Ryan feel to his knees and looked at the scene that he caused in front of him. Bryce laid in front of them all, nearly lifeless.
He was coughing and looked at Ryan, "Ry...why..."
"Bryce no." Ryan whaled, "No! No! No! No! No!" He crawled over to his dearest friend and grabbed him. He pulled him onto his lap and said, "Brycey...I'm so sorry..."
He lip quivered as he tried to say more but Bryce shushed him when he said, "Promise me you'll get help...that you'll stop..."
Ryan nodded, tears streaming down his face, "I promise, Bryce. Cross my heart."
"And hope to die." Bryce said weakly
"Stick a needle." Ryan continued.
"In my eye."
"Wait a minute."
"I spoke a lie."
"I never really."
"Wanted to die."
"But is I may." Ryan said and waited for a response. Bryce was clearly struggling to try and get these last words out. "Bryce, please. But is I may..."
"And if I might." Bryce finally chocked out.
"My heart is open."
"For tonight."
"Though my lips are sealed."
"And a promise is true."
"I won't break."
"My word to you."
"But if by chance."
"I should somehow slip."
"Accidental words."
Bryce took in a sharp breath before saying, "Tumbling from my lips."
"If this solemn vow."
"I should break."
"Then no more breaths."
"Shall I take."
"Thus you know."
"This promise is not a lie."
"For I am not." Ryan cried.
Bryce closed his eyes and whispered, "P-Prepared to die."
"Bryce." Ryan cried. "Bryce!" He yelled, lightly smacking the side of his face.
"Oh my god." I heard Jon say.
I slid to them and yelled, "Someone get a carton of eggs and call an ambulance!"
"No ones in the city." Ryan cried.
"If they don't answer soon, they'll get the police from another, close by district." I explained and was soon handed the carton.
I cracked an egg and peeled the membrane off the inside of the shell. I ripped open his shirt and carefully placed the membrane on the wound and the bleeding came to a stop and I soon did the same with his back.
I heard B.R.I.A.N. talking to the paramedics and I looked over at Ryan. He was so heart broken and shocked about what he did.
~
We all sat in the waiting room, waiting for the results on Bryce. Time went from minutes to hours and it felt like forever and not one doctor still wasn't anywhere to be seen.
We had to go to a nearby town near Los Santos. The paramedics that took him said we were lucky because he actually has a slight chance of making it now.
Ryan was obviously arrested but I over heard them thinking about having him see psychological treatment while he services his time.
I looked at everyone in the room and they looked just as agitated for answers as me. Luke and Evan never spoke to anyone. Jon tried to talk to both, to try and get them to snap out of their never ending nightmare of "Is Bryce going to be okay?"
I looked at everyone else and saw they were all still a little spooked about the aftermath they saw. I didn't notice how dirty and bruised up they were until now. Ryan probably flight with them, plus he did something to Evan so who knows who caused all of them.
We were questioned by police but Ryan even admitted that he shot Bryce so our input didn't exactly matter.
A doctor walked in and everyone's heads turned to him. There was at least three other families in the waiting room and they were all filled with hope.
"Bryce McQuaid?" The doctor said and we all stood up.
He looked at our large group and nodded. I motioned for us to follow him and we did. He led us to the hallway and after a few turns, he stopped and turned to us. He was average height and looked to be in his last thirties, early forties. He had dirty blonde hair and faded, blue eyes.
"I'm Dr. Green and I was the one who operated on Bryce." He introduced himself. "First off, which one of you is Ryan?" He asked.
Everyone was silent, but Jon spoke up, "That was the man who shot him. Why?"
"Well he's been calling out random names and that one was the most common." He explained. He looked at a piece of paper and said, "I wrote down most of them...Luke?" He asked and looked back up. Luke raised his hand and they doctor nodded. He looked back at his papers and said, "Um...Y/n?" I raised my hand and he nodded.
He continued to do that until Luke, Scotty, David, Anthony, and I were all identified.
He nodded and said, "Bryce should be good in a month or two. He's very lucky you know?"
I nodded, realized how lucky you have to be to survive a bullet that went right through you.
"I can say." I commented quietly.
He smiled and said, "The hospital can rent out hotel rooms for all of you if you wish to stay with him, but they'll only pay for the first few nights."
Obviously, Luke, Scotty, David, Anthony and I were going to stay. The rest were going to go home and we were supposed to keep them updated on Bryce. Jaclyn, Chrissy, Melina and Tyler were going to stay too.
As everyone left the hospital, everyone who wasn't going to stay gave the ones who were hugs. Lauren squeezed me very tight and whispered, "Thank you."
I hugged her back and smiled. We pulled away and they got into their cars A drove back to Los Santos.
"Wow," Tyler commented, "you're really close with the ladies."
I laughed out a fake chuckle and said, "Yeah, that happens when your stuck in a bathroom with them until further notice!" I screamed the last part, making him and the other men jump.
"You're not actually made at me for that, are you?" He asked.
I glared at him and started walking to the nearby hotel.
