The Disappearance
"Rain," I woke up in the forest with Lukkas gently shaking me. "We should go back. We slept through Friday."
"Huh? Yeah, okay." I rubbed my eyes and propped myself up. "Where's Rinbo?"
"He must have left while we were asleep." He replied, helping me up.
"Alright. Do you know what time it is?" I yawned as we started to walk back.
"No. Time seems to fly when I'm with you." Lukkas wiggled his eyebrows and grabbed my hand.
"Awww." I teased as we swung our arms.
"Shut up." He laughed, looking down.
We were almost back when Lila came bursting out of the building.
"Have to talk to Rain." She said hurridly.
"Okay?" I said as she tugged me with her towards the range.
"What's wrong?" I asked, concerned as we sat.
"A lot. Like, a lot a lot." She panted, looking around.
"Is this about Corwin?" I asked.
"Yes and no, well yes. Corwin and Gib."
"What does Gib have to do..." I trailed off, realization hitting. "Are you..?"
"Yes. For about a month. I know I should have said something but I just met all of you and thats not a good conversation starter."
"True." I agreed. "I get how this is problematic, but what can I do about it?"
"Well, that's not exactly everything." she muttered, rolling a sleeve up.
On her arm where Gib's name should've been imprinted was Corwin's.
"Impossible. That's... when did this happen?" I stuttered.
"Last night. When Corwin kissed my cheek."
"What did you get yourself into. Um... well let's see. Does Corwin know you're pregnant?"
"No." She said, shaking her head slightly.
"You might want to tell him. No way you'll survive a war when you're having a baby."
"War?" Lila asked, startled.
"Yes. You might want to hid it out with Corwin." I explained.
"Alright. And Rain?"
"Yeah?" I asked, nervous there was more bad news.
"I'm sorry I was so defensive when I tolf you how there were no such things as soul mates. I shouldn't have -"
"I would have learned sooner or later." I interupted. "Not your fault."
She nodded before standing and heading inside.
I was frustrated that I hadn't noticed that Lila was pregnant. How could I be so stupid?
I picked up a bow and notched it, pulling back farther than I should've. when I released my arrow stuck almost halfway into the target.
I heard a quiet noise behind me, but I didn't turn around. I pulled back another arrow, letting in fly. It hit almost exactly in the center.
"Nice hit."
"Shut up Huddson." I muttered, pulling another arrow out of the rusty barrel.
"You remembered my voice?" He asked, chuckle ramming into my brain, echoing in my memories.
I felt the arrow slip when I grasped it. Sweaty palms meant someone was getting to me. I tried to steady the bow and keep calm but my fingers were robbed of their nimble composure.
"Do you remember my lips?" He asked a second before the arrow's deliverance. I hardly flinched, but the easily overlooked motion sent my shaft barreling into the blue pigment of the recon lowest section.
I dropped my bow carelessly on the ground, letting it clatter. I almost sprinted towards him, but couldn't. It was closer to a stride lacking its grace, replaced with a disappointing firery rage.
"Sat it again Huddson, I dare you." I huffed, fists clamped.
"Problem Rain?" He challenged.
How did he ever think I could live him?
"Yeah. Huddson, why don't you try being helpful and leave me alone?"
"But then you wouldn't get the pleasure of being with me." He frowned in mock sadness, corners of his mouth almost twitching into a smirk.
"You'll never change." I muttered. I walked around him instead of pushing past and proving my childishness.
"I don't have to. Its just a matter of time to you realize where your faith lies!" They say the bigger walks away without the last word.
I reached the doors and angrily threw them open. I ran my hand through my hair as I walked back to the dorm.
Rolling my eyes and muttering under my breath I sat down on my bed. Even though I had almost slept a full day and it was mid afternoon I sunk into the covers and passed out.
. . .
"Get up." Instructed a gruff, coarse voice.
Before I opened my eyes I tesed, listening. I could hear shuffling separated from voices.
"I said get up. I'm not a fucking idiot Rain, get up."
I opened my eyes and swung the covers off my bed in an attempt of distraction. When my gaze, floated up to see if it worked, I met eyes with Corwin.
"What's wrong?" I yawned.
"You know what's wrong. Get up." He snapped at me. I could see that he was holding the metal device from when we first visited Lukkas. It was shaped like an 'L' and blunted under the fluorescent lights above.
"What's that?" I asked instead of responding.
His unoccupied arm swung out and caught my throat, shoving me awkwardly against the wall over my bed. I could feel his palm pushing against my throat, contricting my airway.
"Where are they?" He screamed at me, fury lining every letter. His chest was heaving up and down yet his eyes looked completely calm and goal-set.
"Corwin, maybe you should..." Bit said from behind him, stepping forwards so I could see him. Not that I wanted to.
"Shut up Bit. Go unlock the others." He turned to talk to Bit and I took advantage of the time.
I pulled both hands over his wrist, letting my throat escape and air run again. Beofre I could do anything else the device in his other hand came forwards and smacked into my forehead. I felt my skin break and wondered if I was bleeding. It felt like it. He kept it pressed there.
"One twitch of the finger and you will die. Tell me were Lila and Sky are."
"That tiny thing couldn't kill me." I countered.
"Where are they?" He hiss, pressing the gun against my head harder.
"I don't know." I answered truthfully.
"Don't lie to me. Tell me what you know."
I heard pounding outside the door. "Rain?" I heard Lukkas' muffled shout.
"He'll kill you for this. You know that right?" I met eyes with him again, watching him glance at the door.
"I'll kill you for this if you don't tell me where they are." He said, eyes streaming down his cheeks.
"Corwin," I sighed. "I know how much you love Lila. But I'm not sure if she would want me to tell you why she left just yet. Its for your own good. She loves you, trust me. You just have to have faith in her."
The matal thing swung down as his arm dropped from my head. "What if she doesn't come back to me?" He sat on the edge of my bed.
"She will." I sat next to him.
Tears were streaming down his face. "Do you know how long I'll have to wait?" He murmered between sobs, not looking at me.
"It could be up to a year." I said quietly.
Corwin looked devastated. I could almost see his heart stop beating. He wiped his face with the back of his sleeve. "And shit, now I'm crying like a weak ass." He laughed.
"Crying doesn't make someone weak. Thinking they can avoid their feelings does." I murmered as I hoped not to meet gazes.
The door flew open with incredible force, Lukkas panting and blood dropping in he floor.
"Bastard!" He screamed before leaping at Corwin in re most adorbke way possible.
"Accident!" Corwin yelled back before ducking.
"I'm going to try and sleep somewhere." I grabbed a pillow, lifting it for everyone to see.
"I'll protect you Rain!" I heard Lukkas shout from the dorm. I knew he had been eavesdropping and knew perfectly well they were just playing around. Most likely.
I walked outside slightly quicker than I should have, reaching into the pillowcase the moment I was out of sight.
I pulled out a crisply folded note, two handwriting scrawled on the front and back.
The first read:
Dear Rain,
Thanks for helping me decide what I needed to do. Please don't tell Corwin why I left, it's better this way. I plan to return in one years time. Of something happens to either of us, I want you to know you were the closest family I had that didn't share blood. I might have only known you for a month but I can tell that you're a good person. I'll tell my child about you,
Love from Lila.
I hit my lip. I had never acknowledged my relationship with Lila until now. If course she was one of my closest friends but I didn't ever tell her that. And now I wouldn't get to for a year. No matter, I'd see her after that.
I carefully turned the paper over.
Rain,
I'm sorry. Don't hate me for trying to go back. Truthfully, I never wanted to leave, never felt comfortable with rebelling in suck a crude manner, Even if you can see change it'll bring.
Don't blame Lila for this, I insisted. I'll miss you all. I won't give away information on your or your location. Just know I'm with who I am supposed to be with and that I'm safe.
Sky
She went back? To the community? In frustration I crumpled the note into a tight ball. How could she? We were team mates and worked well together. She deserved to be with them.
"Rain?" Zoe stepped outside. I could see the shake in her knees and the wetness of her cheeks. "You need to see this."
I got up, palming the ball and grabbing my pillow. Zoe didn't notice as I walked behind her, dropping the note back into the pillow case.
Zoe pulled out a Taker. I hadn't used mine since we arrived as I didn't need to. Weird how things change.
After clicking a few buttons a video popped up.
The imagine was clear and high resolution. I could see a,figure standing on a stage as the camera steadied.
"This is how the weak traitors leave us!" Shouted a voice.
The figure on the platform had red on her forehead in the shape of a 'T', the one on mine. There was a thick cord around her neck and her hands were bound above her.
"Does the traitor have last words to lend insight to the rightous people? Do you have an idea that could have lead you to better?" Sneered the voice, which I recognized as the Senator's.
"I won't beg mercy from people like you." Said a voice that made my heart drop.
"Once a coward, always a coward." The Senator laughed before the floor fell from beneath Sky's feet.
For a while I could see the twisted dance she spun to, watching her face contort as she tried to breath only to find a lack for air. Her legs started to slow their kicks and after a minute Sky's body went limp.
You're welcome for making the first death an easy one. You're welcome for not letting you get attatched. Dang this would be awkward if Sky was your favorite character, even though I tried to make her hard to like. If you did like Sky well that sucks for you doesn't it.
