2. Walkers
It's been a few weeks now since the apocalypse started. Me and Grace have made friends with all the other kids in our camp. I had gotten on with Aria the most. She was Daryl and Merle's younger sister. Grace had gotten on with Sophia and it felt like Sophia was trying to replace me as Carl's best friend but I ignored her. My dad had to tell Lori that Rick was dead. But I didn't believe that for a minute, Rick was one of the strongest people I know he's as tough as nails. He would be able to survive a gunshot.
It was nighttime at the camp and we were all sitting round the fire. We were like one big family. Our camp was in the woods by the quarry, so walkers barely ever came up here. We'd all finished eating whatever it was and started walking towards our tents to sleep for the night.
We didn't have much room in the tent for 3 people but we managed to fit in their. I was always scared to sleep in case something bad happened to my sister. I stared at a picture of my mom that I brought with me. "You know, you look like her. Hell, you even have the same personality." My dad said climbing in the tent.
"I know, but you think I look like her?" I asked him. He chuckled a little.
"Your a spitting image of her." He said making me chuckle.
"I miss her, a lot." I said letting tears guide their way down my cheeks down to the floor of the tent. Luckily Grace was asleep next to me. I hate crying in front of her.
"I do as well." He said hugging me. I hugged him back. "Now get some sleep." He said to me. I nodded and laid down next to Grace and faced the other way.

When we woke up it was midday dad was already up. I brushed my hair and teeth real quick, before joining everyone else. Daryl was out hunting, and Merle, Glenn, Jacqui, Andrea, T-Dog and Morales were in Atlanta. I had no idea where my dad was and I decided not to ask where he was. I could see Dale sitting on top of the RV and waved up to him, he waved back at me. I don't really talk much because I have nothing to say. Lori was cooking food for us. Whenever dad wasn't here Lori would act like a mom to me and Grace.
"Any luck?" Lori asked.
"How do we tell if they're poison?" Amy asked Lori as she pours some of the mushrooms into her hand and staring at them closely.
"Uh, there's only one sure way I know of." Lori said to Amy. Me and Grace were sat by the unlit fire.
"Ask Shane when he gets back?" Amy said. I still had no idea where he was. I just hope he doesn't get bitten or if he gets eaten by those walkers. I could tell Grace was nervous because she put her head on my shoulder and held my hand. I looked to see if she had her necklace on that mom gave her. I checked my wrist and saw the bracelet mom gave me before she died.
"Yeah, you've got it. Thank you." I heard Lori say. I looked up and saw her walking to the RV. With an empty bucket in her hand. "Dale, I'm heading out." She said to Dale before turning to Carl. "Sweetheart I want you to stay where Dale can see you, okay?" She asked him before turning to us. "You too girls." I nodded to her.
"Yes, mom." Carl said before making his way over to me and Grace. He sat next to me and Grace started laughing I nudged her with my elbow but not that hard.
"Ow,Y/N." She said to me stifling her laughter.
"Oh come on, it wasn't that hard." I said laughing when Carl joined in with the laughter. I put my hand on the floor when I felt a hand go on mine for a quick second before moving quickly. I looked at Carl and his face was bright red. I'm sure mine went red as well. Grace just sat there laughing. After that little incident Carl stood up and played by Carol and her family's Cherokee.

Dad had come back a few hours ago now and was teaching us, including Carl, how to tie knots but I already knew how to tie them seeming as mom taught me before she passed. My dad was teaching Carl while I was demonstrating to my sister. She finally got the hang of it and gave me a high-two. That was our special thing.
All of a sudden T-Dog's voice could be heard, in between static noises. "Hello, base camp! Can anybody out there hear me?" I could hear T-Dog say though the C.B.
"Hello? Hello? Reception's bad on this end." Dale said. I stood up and so did Grace. Aria started walking over to me. "Repeat. Repeat."
"Shane is that you?" T-Dog asked. Does my dad seriously sound like an old man, no offence to Dale or anything.
"Is that them?" Lori asked. Of course it is.
"We're in deep shit. We're trapped in the department store." T-dog said. I felt bad for them. I would go after them but I wouldn't be able to leave my younger sister to be at camp by herself. Even though dad was here I couldn't trust him.
"He say they're trapped?" My dad asked.
"There are geeks all over the place. Hundreds of 'em. We're surrounded." T-Dog said to us. What if they don't make it out alive?
"T-Dog, repeat that last. Repeat." Dale said. But the radio went static and stopped.
"He said the department store." Lori said. Thunder rumbled in the background and I wrapped my arm around Grace's shoulder and gave her my plaid shirt that I had over the top of my white t shirt to her.
"I heard it too." Dale said.
"I did as well." I said speaking up.
"Shane?" Lori said.
"No way. We do not go after them. We do not risk the rest of the group. Y'all know that." My dad said to all of us.
"So We're gonna leave her there?" Amy asked my dad.
"Look, Amy, I know that this is not easy-" My dad said. How would he know?
"She volunteered to go help the rest of us." Amy said. I hugged Grace seeming as she looked anxious with what was gonna happen to them.
"I know, and she knew the risks, right? See, if she's trapped, she's gone. So we just have to deal with that. There's nothing we can do." dad said to Amy. I felt so bad for her, her sister might die because she risked her life to get us supplies.
"She's my sister, you son of a bitch." Amy shouted at dad. I was hoping she was gonna slap him but that didn't happen. Amy walked off somewhere I wanted to follow her and keep her company but I couldn't leave Grace. Another rumble of thunder went off again.
"Amy..." I said but it was to late. Amy was like an older sister to me.
"Come on. It's all right, buddy." Dad said to Carl. He never reassured us, his daughters, his own flesh and blood.
