"So that's it." Jack said darkly. "Youse really are a brat with a rich bastard for a father."

"No Jack-"

"Your a liar, I should of seen it from the beginning!" He snapped.

Her anger boiled so hot she feared she may explode, how could he accuse her like that?

"Well your a thief!" She shot back.

She wanted to slap him again but before her hand could make contact he grabbed her wrist and twisted it forcing her to buckle at his feet. She cried out in pain as he yanked her back to her feet and held her up by her arm pinned behind her back.

"The man ya call your father is the reason I had to steel that stuff!" He said darkly in her ear. Over head thunder clapped so loudly it shook the sandy floor.

"Y-your a coward! You left Crutchie to the police! Your the reason he was a crip! Your the reason he's dead!"

She should not of said that. She should not of said that. She should not of said that.

Instantly she felt his grip tighten on her arm, he yanked it so hard she felt a muscle pull. She cried out in pain as she felt him lock his arm around her.

"Don't you even dare bring Crutchie into this, you have absolutely no right!" He snarled in her ear.

"Let me go!" She said weakly the pain in her shoulder making her sick. He didn't listen to her he only tightened his grip and kicked the back of her knees making her fall to the ground.

"I can't believe I'se neva saw how much of a brat you are!" He said flipping her on to her back and pinning her to the ground. He let go of her arm and Katherine found herself unable to move it more than a few inches. Tears were now streaming down her face as he settled his full weight on her. Normally she would of loved having Jack on top of her but not now, not when he was yelling at her. Not when he was hurting her.

"I can't believe I actually fell for you." Katherine gasped through her tears.

"Yea well, that makes two of us." Jack muttered pinning her arms to the ground.

Small sobs were escaping her lips by now and she felt like sinking into the sand to never be found again. She squeezed her eyes shut willing herself to die... but it was no use. She'd already dogged a bullet so many times over the month, why would fate be kind now?

"Hey." Jack said his voice surprisingly soft. "Look at me." He said. When Katherine refused he grabbed her face and forced her to look up. "I'm not sorry, but I sure as hell hate seeing you cry."

"T-then get off o-of me!" She snapped getting a fist full of sand and flinging it at his face.

He cursed and sat up but Katherine didn't have enough time to wiggle out from underneath him. He had her pinned again furiously trying to wipe sand out of his eyes. Thunder clapped again but it was much farther away now and the rain seemed to have died down a bit.

"Get off of me!" She yelled as loud as she could but he wasn't listening.

"Just... hold still! Let me say something!" He said pinning her arms to her sides so she couldn't throw sand again.

"No!" She spit furiously. He promptly ignored her.

"Ya wanna know why I flirted with ya? Ya wanna know why I tried so hard to get to you?" He asked his voice no longer angry but... annoyed and almost hurt. "Because I liked you, you was different from anyone I had ever met. Your so damn beautiful and smart and... and independent. I would of never guessed you was a scab under neath, then I actually start falling in love with you an-an then you gotta turn out ta be a bitch! Why does everything I want have to be impossible... or overpriced?"

Katherine was unable to speak, it seemed her throat had completely seeled itself off. The only thing she could manage was the constant stream of tears running down her face. Did he just compare her to being expensive? Is that really how he saw her? Did he really think he couldn't afford to be with her? Then what about the impossible? Was he talking about that stupid Santa Fe place or was he talking about the two of them? He must of thought it was impossible to be with her because she was rich... overpriced.

She sobbed harder unable to take her eyes off of his hardened ones. It was as if he'd turned into a statue, she knew she shouldn't ever of let him know.

She was going to dearly regret it.

"G-get off!" She yelled struggling to form the words.

But he wasn't moving of of her, nor was he moving at all. It really was like he'd turned into a statute.

"HEY!" A voice boomed at them. Katherine snapped her head to the side to see David and Clara running at them at full speed. "What's going on?" He asked breathlessly as he reached the canopy of trees.

As soon as David saw the tears in Katherine's eyes he got angry.

"What the heck is going on Jack?" He asked taking in her ridged form under him. Jack put his hands up in defense but before he could say anything David was yanking him off of Katherine.

Katherine rolled over feeling her lungs fill with hair she hadn't realized she had been holding,

"Oh Katherine are you okay?" Clara asked crouching down next to her.

"N-no." She gasped immediately grabbing hold of Clara for protection.

"Jack you better start explaining or your going to be sorry." David said and Katherine had never seen him look more threatening.

Jack still had his hands in the air as if he'd done nothing wrong.

"I didn't do nothin' Dave! She's the one you should be mad at!" He said throwing Katherine a glare.

Katherine hid her face in Clara's shoulder feeling her body shutter violently. She couldn't doubt she felt guilty for lying to him and every one else. How would David and Clara react?

"Are you delirious? I just found you pinning her to the ground against her will! She is crying! Can't you see that?" David snapped pointing at Katherine.

"She wouldn't listen ta me." Jack said sounding annoyed. "I wasn't trying ta do anything!"

"That's not what it looked like to me." David said slowly and straightened up. He turned to Katherine who was furiously hugging Clara trying to make everything go away. "Kath, what happened?"

Jack scoffed "Don't ask her she ain't gonna tell da truth! She's been lying to all of us!"

Katherine shuttered at the truth of his words but pulled away from Clara and looked up at him. She didn't want to lie anymore, but she knew if she lied to David and Clara they would believe her, not Jack.

She could do it, she could lie. But what kind of person would that make her? That would just give Jack more proof that she was nothing more than rich scum, nothin different from her father.

"J-Jacks right, I h-have been lying to you all." Katherine said weakly.

"What do you mean?" David asked looking confused. Katherine took a deep breath and prepared herself.

"My father is Joseph Pulitzer, the man who owns the World. A-And the man who steels from the poor."
