Chapter 2: Lore

He never stated his name to anyone before. Not even the teacher called him by actually name, everyone just knew him as one name; Tribute. Tribute would usually walk in class early and not talking to many people. He would sit down and listen to his music with his head down. No one was concerned about him at all. As high school went on, he started neglecting taking care of himself. People now started to pick on him and make fun of him but he didn't care, he was numb to the pain.

Sometimes after school, two kids in his class would taunt him as he was walking. When he didn't give a response, they pushed him on the floor. He didn't do anything after that, he just got up, looked at them with a knife in his hand and slit his wrist right in front of them. They didn't bother him anymore after that.

Tribute's parents kicked him when he was only 9 years old. By that point, he was already self-sufficient enough to apply for jobs. He applied to any job that was in the town, but no one hired him. He didn't get angry or anything like that. He just took his things and lived on the street. He survived by fasting 3 days a week and robbing nearby grocery stores and delis. He was never caught because he was so small until one day, he was caught stealing a weeks' worth of chips and water from a smoke shop. The cashier took out a gun and pointed it at him. When she saw that it didn't faze him, she was hesitant to shoot Tribute. Tribute put the muzzle to his head and looked her stone cold.

"Shoot me, I dare you," Tribute says while laughing. "I would've done it by now, especially since I'm taunting you." The cashier was confused. Why is this kid laughing? What is up with this kid? The woman puts the gun down and looks at his clothes and sees how dirty and tattered they are.

"What the hell?" she shouts. "How old are you?"

"I'm 9 years old," Tribute says. "I haven't eaten in days I need something to eat."

"Where are your parents?"

"They kicked me out 8 months ago, now I'm on my own," Tribute says while eating a bag of chips.

This kid forced this woman to change her perception of people. These people in the smoke shop are only desperate to change their living situation. With this new change of thinking, she decided to remake the smoke shop into a full-fledged charity market. And she decided to call it, Tribute.
