Chapter 51: Innocent?
(Sophia)
"Well, this is a very serious matter, ladies," Ms. Robinson says, as we sit in her office, nervously. My lips are pursed together out of fear, and Victoria herself looks incredibly uncomfortable. She knows that she screwed up when it came to this, and she hates herself for it. I can see it through her eyes, and how she moves around.
I'd be lying if I said that I didn't feel a little bit bad for her.
"Victoria, you are facing a lot right now. You are facing a possible suspension right now. Do you know how severe your actions were? This is something that cannot be looked over," Ms. Robinson says. Victoria doesn't move from her sitting position. She just continues to look down on the ground, and act like she regrets everything.
"I'm sorry," is all that manages to come out of her mouth. Her voice is distant, cold, yet with a hint of remorse in there. Ms. Robinson sits back in her chair.
"Victoria, 'sorry' doesn't make up for everything that you've done. This is so serious, Victoria. You did so many things wrong," she says, and even Ms. Robinson looks like she doesn't know what to do with Victoria. She looks like she really wants to punish her, but at the same time, she can't do so. When I see Victoria, I know that she's actually truly sorry for everything that she's done. She won't even look me straight in the eye right now.
I can hear the guilt that's interwoven throughout her voice. I can't let anything happen to her. And, on the plus side, she backed out right before Lisa falsely accused Ray and I of everything that we had supposedly done. She didn't have the heart to humiliate me in front of our whole senior year. That really shows that she does care, deep down. She just made the wrong decisions in life, and she regrets it fully.
"Ms. Robinson?" I ask. Ms. Robinson looks over at me, with a questioning look on her face.
"Yes, Sophia?" she asks. I gulp.
"I don't think you should be too hard on Victoria." Ms. Robinson looks extremely shocked at my words. She looks like I have a unicorn horn growing out of my forehead.
"Why do you say that, Sophia?" I sigh.
"Ms. Robinson, I feel like Victoria is truly sorry for everything that she did to me. I can see it in her eyes and her body language. She's truly sorry, and I appreciate that. Not only that, she actually backed out of the whole thing right at the last minute. She didn't have the heart to do anything that bad to me. That shows me that she's actually insanely sorry for all the pain that she has caused me throughout this whole process. I think she shouldn't be punished for being sorry and for showing some mercy for Ray and I."
Ms. Robinson looks at me, then at Victoria. She's studying Victoria at that moment, analyzing all her facial expressions and her body language. With a loud sigh, Ms. Robinson shows a little bit of mercy.
"Very well, Sophia. Victoria, you got very lucky. You should be lucky to have someone like Sophia right by you. But, I do believe that you have to be punished. Victoria, you will have detention for three days, after school, for one hour. If you don't attend, then you will have to attend Saturday school." Victoria looks up a little bit as she types it into her computer.
"Okay," Victoria says softly, as Ms. Robinson types up everything that she needs to.
"Very well, then. You're both dismissed," she says, and we both get up, grab our belongings, and just get out of the office. I felt oddly stressed in there, and I don't even know why. I wasn't even the one who was risking anything remotely punishable.
When I get out of the office, I face Victoria again. She flashes me a slight smile, as I flash her another smile in return. "Thank you, Sophia," she says. I look at her, slightly confused.
"What do you mean?" I ask, as I adjust my backpack. She chuckles.
"Are you serious? You saved my butt there. My parents would've actually killed me had I gotten suspended. It's all thanks to you." I shrug.
"Well, you're human too. I couldn't do that to you." She smiles.
"Also, I wanted to actually apologize. I gave you so much drama and trouble that you didn't deserve, all because of a little bit of jealousy that I'm not entirely proud of. I should've never done that to you. It was stupid, I was stupid, and you didn't deserve it. For that, I'm really sorry." For the first time in a while, I hear a genuine apology from here. Those were rare when we grew up together. It's refreshing to finally hear one. I smile.
"Well, you're forgiven, Victoria. I actually have to thank you. Thank you for not taking part in the false humiliation at prom. I appreciate that." She smiles.
"Hey, it's all good. I think I finally realized that I was being totally irrational, and I shouldn't have done any of this to you. Plus, Lisa isn't worth it. She doesn't deserve me anyways." I nod.
"I actually didn't tell Lisa anything dramatic. I bluffed the secrets a little bit too much because I wanted her to embarrass herself on stage. I felt a little bit evil, but it was totally worth it." I chuckle. Man, she can be evil, but when she is, it's usually pretty awesome.
When she says, "evil," something crosses my mind. I remember the situation Caitlin and Steven in. Gosh, I can't imagine how awkward and stressed the whole situation must be. I really hope Victoria is doing alright. "Are your parents alright?" I ask.
Victoria looks a little bit uncomfortable, and I immediately feel bad. I probably shouldn't have asked her about her parents, considering the situation that they're in, but I just had to make sure that everything was okay.
"I mean, the relationship is really strained. And I mean really strained. But, at the same time, I'm glad my dad's lies were uncovered. I think that he was glad too, because he didn't have to hide anything anymore. Plus, my dad said that we may see my brother in prison sometime," she says.
My eyes widen at her revelation. I mean, I totally understand where her dad's coming from. But I'm kind of shocked that she'd want to meet Roman. "You're going to see Roman?" She nods.
"Yeah. My dad says that I deserve to see him, and meet him after all these years. He is family, despite how cruel and evil he is." I shrug.
"That's fair." Victoria nods. Our conversation is cut short when the familiar ring of the school bell hits our ears.
"Well, I'm out. Later," I say, and I turn and head to my next class. While I'm walking there, Sonia catches up with me, and she grabs my arm. "Everything went well?" she asks. I nod.
"Yeah, everything's fine. Do I look like I'm about to break down?" She shakes her head.
"No. I just wanted to make sure that everything went well in regards to Victoria and the whole prom drama." I smile.
"That's sweet. Yes, everything went fine. I told Ms. Robinson that she shouldn't be hard on Victoria, because I thought she was genuinely sorry, so she wasn't hard. Plus, Victoria and I made peace." Sonia stops in her tracks.
"Really?" She looks a little bit suspicious of everything, like I have something up my sleeve. I nod.
"Yeah." Sonia looks really shocked. She looks like she didn't expect any of that to happen on my behalf.
"Why would you do that?" she asks. I shrug.
"I don't want any more beef between us. I think that she's genuinely sorry, and I'm tired of all the drama that happened this year. I think we all need a break." Sonia smiles.
"You know, Sophia, you've got a really big heart. I don't know if you ever admit this yourself, but you really do have a really big heart. Sometimes, it's a lot bigger than what's good for you." I shrug.
"Hey, there's nothing wrong with that." As we walk towards our class, I smile. You know, I know they say that you should forgive and forget. Granted, I probably won't ever do the latter. I'll always remember everything that happened between Victoria and I. Whether it be the nasty fights that we had growing up, the civil, yet awkward conversations we had in middle school, or the oddly kind peacemaking like the ones that just happened.
But, throughout the whole year, I've learned that you shouldn't hold grudges like these. Her torments will always haunt me and I'll always remember them, whether I like them or not. But, there's no point in having any bad blood between us. My genuity sensor down below knew that she had good intentions.
She just made some wrong choices, like we all do in life. But, at the end of the day, she still had some heart, and backed out. I don't know if it means that we're friends or not. But, at least there's peace between us. And honestly, I'm glad that we finally made peace, after years of feud and fighting.

Awww, this was actually really really cute. So, I guess the years of fighting and bitterness have finally come to an end between Sophia and Victoria. Do you think Victoria got lucky with Sophia saving her? Let me know in the comments.
