Chapter 46: Uncovered

I don't feel any better today. You could say that I feel a little bit worse. It's hard to describe all the emotions that I feel in one sentence. I could write an entire essay about it. If only my English teacher would let us do that. I would get an A+ in the class. But either ways, I stay miserable for the whole day. I have no reason to be happy.

My mom was rather chill with the whole situation. She knew that fights were a normal part of a relationship, because she recalled her and my dad going through one long before they were married. My dad and my brother were livid, however.

After I told them both the whole story, I could practically see the steam shooting from their ears. I'm pretty sure my dad wanted to choke Ray at that point, while Anthony wanted to do much worse. I didn't let them do that, because he's still human.

"You'll need this," Sonia's voice says, while setting down the grocery bag. I don't move one muscle from my bed, and just continue to be wrapped in the many layers of blankets. Sonia sighs.

"Sophia, you can't be miserable forever. You have to get up and actually do things," Sonia says. I sigh. "I have no reason to be happy right now. I feel so awful," I say. Sonia rubs my back.

"I'm not asking you to be happy. I just want you to talk to me. I brought ice cream. Oreo ice cream," she says, and I know she's trying to bribe me with the last option. Smart girl, I tell you. I sit myself up and I look at her. Sonia flinches a little bit when she sees me.

"Yikes. You don't look too good, Sophia," she says. I shrug. "I don't really care, Sonia. I'm too sad to care," I say, as she opens the Oreo ice cream.

"Fine. That's fair enough. But I'm here to help you drown your sorrows. Here," she says, while placing the carton in my lap and handing me a spoon. When my fingers wrap around the spoon, I immediately go in and start to inhale the ice cream. Sonia just looks at me with a weird face while she brings out her mint chocolate chip ice cream.

"I thought you were insane, but then I remembered they're Oreos. Of course you're going to inhale it. But seriously, SLOW DOWN! You're going to choke!" Sonia says. I give her the "don't tell me how to live my life" look as I continue to down my ice cream.

"You know, Sophia, you're going to have to deal with him either ways. You're the VP of the student council, and prom is coming up next month. You're going to have to face him when it comes to those things," Sonia says. I sigh.

"Don't remind me. I'm probably going to have some civil conversation, but I don't know if we're even going to go anything past that. It'll be too awkward for us," I say, as I nibble on a piece of Oreo.

"Well, it's a start. I get that you guys want a break, but honestly, if it becomes too much, I will drag you by the hair and make you guys talk like I did in the 7th grade. I don't care if you're screaming. I'm going to make you guys talk," Sonia says, as she continues to lick her ice cream. I shrug.

"Good luck with that. Ray will probably run as I'm coming," I say, and before Sonia can sass me any further, a knock comes at the door.

"Sophia. I have some people that want to see you," Anthony's voice says at the door. I sigh.

"Bring them in," I tell him. The door then swings open, and three familiar guys are standing there. My three remaining guy friends, Rob, Henry, and Vince. Along with Ray, they've been my friends since I was waddling around in diapers, speaking a mix of gibberish and English.

I haven't seen them in so long. I saw Rob and Henry over Thanksgiving break, and the last time I saw Vince was a year ago, when he was visiting from Canada. It feels good to see them again.

"Rob? Henry? Vince? What are you guys doing here?" I ask. Rob bites his lip a little bit.

"Well, I heard that you and Ray had a bad fight, and we just wanted to check up on you. Plus, Vince just flew in from Canada yesterday, because he's on break. I know you guys haven't seen each other in a while. Reunion?" Rob asks. I shrug.

"Not the union I was expecting, but thanks," I say, sniffling. Vince looks sympathetic.

"Aw. Come here," he says, and he sits on my bed to give me a hug. Rob and Henry also join in on the hug, and that's where I start to cry again. It's not as heavy as when Sonia came, but it's still a little bit more than I'd like.

"We're still here for you. Keep in mind that. Even though we haven't seen each other in person for a while," Vince says, and I hug them all tighter than they're comfortable with.

"You guys are the best. I don't know what I would do without you," I say. They shrug.

"Don't worry. We're here to tame the hot mess that you are," Henry says, and everyone chuckles a little bit. I give him the, "really?" look.

"You want to throw that against me? You were the one who was running around, trying to find sources for your project in elementary. You called my mom at 9 o'clock at the night to ask if I could help you. Don't call me the hot mess," I say, and Rob raises an eyebrow.

"I thought that was fake! Vince, you liar," Rob claims. Vince raises his hands in defense.

"Sorry?" he says, and I shrug.

"Oh well. It's not the end of the world. At least you guys are here," I say. Henry smiles.

"So, tell me this. What exactly went down when Ray snapped?" Henry asks. Sonia sighs.

"Wow. So subtle, Henry," Sonia says. I roll my eyes.

"It's not that big of a deal, Sonia. I'll tell him," I say, and I tell my guy friends everything. When I finish, they all look like they didn't expect anything less from Ray, or they want to beat his face in.

"Wow. I guess he decided to have a glass of freshly squeezed 'douchebag juice,' along with his breakfast that day. Good to know," Rob says. Vince raises an eyebrow at him.

"Douchebag juice? So THAT'S what you always bring in a bottle when we meet at the cafe! Makes sense, considering your attitude," Vince says, while Henry snorts. Rob sighs.

"Okay, it's water. I get insanely thirsty all the time," Rob says.

"Right," I say sarcastically. While they're insulting each other, Rob looks like he's really itching to tell me something. It's like he has to tell me something otherwise he will die. While Rob looks like that, I raise an eyebrow at him.

"Are you okay, dude? You seem a little bit on the uncomfortable side over there," I tell him. Rob shakes his head.

"Oh no! I'm fine! What are you talking about?" he says, but we all know that he's lying through his teeth. I sigh, and I focus all my attention to him.

"Okay, Rob. We all know that I can see through your lying self like you're made of glass. If I wasn't going to do it, then Sonia was for sure. How about you tell me what's going on?" I tell him. Rob sighs.

"Fine. But you're probably going to hate me for this, Sophia," he says. I shrug.

"I'd hate you more if you lied to me about what you're about to say. Now out with it," I say. Rob gulps.

"Okay. We may have found Ray possibly cheating on you," Rob says, letting the news out in one speech. My mouth falls open at what he says, and then my head starts to shake.

"No. He would never do that. He knows better," I say.

"Wow. Real smooth, Rob. Good job," Henry says. Vince sighs.

"Yeah. Randy found this, and he gave it to Henry. We thought you might want to see it," Vince says, while Henry yanks out a crumpled note. He hands it to me, and I immediately snatch it from him. When I read it, it's like someone shoves a needle through my heart.

"You are such an amazing guy. I loved the feel of your soft lips onto mine, and your hands everywhere on my body. You're truly a genius when it comes to those things. I can't wait to it with you again, and I really hope that I can see you soon. Lots of love, A." I read out loud.

When I read those last two lines, my voice starts to break yet again. This can't be true. I thought the notes were just "love you," and that's it. I never knew that they were these kinds of notes.

Also, I thought they had stopped. Ray stopped telling me about the notes, so I thought they stopped. I refuse to believe that's true. Ray would never do that to me. He's a lot of things, but he's not a cheater. He wouldn't even consider cheating on me.

"H-He wouldn't do this t-to me. H-He's not that kind of person. He just wouldn't," I insist, with my voice shaking as I fiercely refuse what my friends are trying to tell me. Henry bites his lower lip a little bit.

"Sophia, that's what we found. I'm so sorry. We're so sorry," Henry says, lowering his head. I shake my head.

"There's got to be some mistake. Maybe someone slipped this to him on accident. Maybe he accidentally grabbed it. He wouldn't do this," I insist, hysterical. Sonia's hand clamps on my shoulder.

"Sophia. Come here," she says, and I bury my face in the crook of Sonia's neck. My arms tightly wrap around her, while I continue to sob. Rob, Vince, and Henry join in on the hug, and they just remind me of how they're here for me.

Even after the note, I still don't believe that Ray cheated on me. Someone must have done that to mess with him, or it was just a mistake. But, I know that I should keep my mind open to a lot of possibilities.

Even if it feels like 100 needles are being shoved into my heart.

I love how Sophia's guy friends came in to comfort her after the whole mess. Do you think that Ray would cheat on Sophia? Let me know in the comments.
