Third Person P.O.V
Astrid heard a slap echo through the hall, she sat up in her bed. "What was that?" Astrid thought to herself. She got up from her bed and opened the door quietly to see Hiccup on the ground holding his cheek and Stoick above him with a scowl on his face. "Why can't you do anything right?!" Stoick yelled at Hiccup. He shrugged his shoulders, "Gosh, I don't know. Maybe I would if you would stop treating me so badly I would." Hiccup replied sarcastically. "Don't give me your sarcasm boy! If you don't I won't let you go out tomorrow, I don't care if it's the weekend. You can stay here and clean this whole place up if you want something to do." Stoick said with a frustrated look. "What?! You can't keep me cooped up in this Thor forsaken place, I don't care if you are the mayor or my dad! Speaking of which you don't even act like one, all you do is make my life miserable ever since mom died! You didn't care even when I was just nine years old! You're not the only one missing her!" Hiccup exclaimed as he got up and ran downstairs, door slamming shut. She quickly shut her door when Stoick looked over at her direction, "What did I just see?" Astrid thought to herself as she sat on the bed trying to process as to what just happened. Astrid looked at the clock and saw that it was only 6:40 in the morning, so she decided to get ready for school since she was up. By the time Astrid was done getting ready for school it was 7:15, Hiccup still hasn't come back since the argument with his dad this morning.
She walked downstairs to head towards the dining room and saw Stoick looking at papers. "Good morning, sir." Astrid greeted as she sat down just in time for breakfast. "Good morning, Astrid. How did you sleep last night?" Stoick asked. "I slept well, how about you?" Astrid replied before eating a piece of her omelet. "I slept well." He replied. After they ate breakfast, Astrid looked at her watch checking the time. "Well, I better get going. See you later." Astrid said as she grabbed her backpack and exited the door. She faintly heard Stoick say goodbye and headed towards the school.
Hiccup's P.O.V
After my argument with dad, I decided to ditch school today. I was driving to Thor knows where I turned on the radio for a distraction, it was playing Hold On by Chord Overstreet. I turned the radio up as the song started.
Loving and fighting
Accusing, uniting
I can't imagine a world with you gone
The joy and the chaos, the demons we're made of
I'd be so lost if you left me alone
You locked yourself in the bathroom
Lying on the floor when I break through
I pull you in to feel your heartbeat
Can you hear me screaming "please don't leave me"
Hold on, I still want you
Come back, I still need you
Let me take your hand, I'll make it right
I swear to love you all my life
Hold on, I still need you
A long endless highway, you're silent beside me
Drivin' a nightmare I can't escape from
Helplessly praying, the light isn't fadin'
Hiding in the shock and the chill in my bones
They took you away on a table
I pace back and forth as you lay still
I pull you in to feel your heartbeat
Can you hear me screaming, "please don't leave me"
Hold on, I still want you
Come back, I still need you
Let me take your hand, I'll make it right
I swear to love you all my life
Hold on, I still need you
I don't wanna let go
I know I'm not that strong
I just wanna hear you
Saying baby, let's go home
Let's go home
Yeah, I just wanna take you home
Hold on, I still want you
Come back, I still need you. . .
Tears started to run down my face as I remembered some of the good times I had with mom, this song just got to me.
Flashback. . .
Third Person P.O.V
A five-year Hiccup was hiding behind a slide at the park, he and his mom decided to play hide and seek. Hiccup quietly giggled as he heard his mom call his name, "Oh Hiccup, where are you hiding?" Valka asked. She spotted auburn hair behind a short slide, she quietly walked over to the slide. "Gotcha!" Valka exclaimed as she grabbed on to her son. He was laughing when his mother started to tickle him, "Haha, stop mom. Please! I surrender." Hiccup said jokingly. Valka finally let go of her son, "Ok, time to go home Hiccup." Valka said. "Awe! Do we have to? I don't wanna leave." Whined Hiccup. Valka chuckled as her son whined, "Yes dear, besides don't you want to see daddy? He misses you." She said, trying to persuade her son into going home. Hiccup gave a pout but agreed, "Ok, fine."
Three Years later. . .
An eight-year-old Hiccup was helping his parents decorating the Christmas tree, "Can I put the star on the top of the tree? Please?" Hiccup pleaded. Valka and Stoick laughed at their son, "Of course you can, son!" Stoick exclaimed. He picked Hiccup up and put him on his shoulders, Hiccup then sat the star on the top of the tree. "Now it's perfect." Hiccup said as he stood by his parents, admiring the tree. "Ok, who wants to help make cookies?" Asked Valka as she headed towards the kitchen. "Me!" Stoick and Hiccup exclaimed at the same time. Valka laughed then told them what ingredients they needed.
One Year Later. . .
Nine-year-old Hiccup was getting ready for bed, his mother still tucked him in bed even though he thinks that he's too old. "Good night love," Valka whispered to her sleeping son. She got up and quietly shut the door, as she closed the door. She felt Stoick hug her from behind, "Is he asleep?" He asked quietly. Valka gave a nod then turned around to give her husband a peck on the lips. They decided to go to bed, as Valka was getting in bed she suddenly collapsed to the floor. "Valka!" Stoick yelled. He hurriedly ran to his wife and picked her up then put her on the bed, he grabbed his phone and called 911. "This is 911, what is your emergency?" The person on the other question. "My wife just collapsed and I don't know why my name is Stoick Haddock," Stoick said with a hint of worry in his voice.
"Ok, Mr. Haddock. You need to stay calm, where do you live?" Stoick gave them his address and then sent an ambulance to his home, "Please Thor, let her be alright." Stoick gave a prayer to the gods. He suddenly heard his son, "Dad, what's going on?" Hiccup asked as he rubbed his eyes. He then saw his mom in his father's arms, "MOM!" Hiccup yelled as he rushed to his dad. "Hiccup, she'll be alright," Stoick said, trying to calm his son down. He then heard the ambulance as they have arrived.
At the Hospital. . .
Valka was rushed into the ER as they arrived at the hospital, it has been an hour or so and they haven't heard anything about her. A doctor then walked out of the room, then greeted Stoick and Hiccup. Stoick immediately got up from his chair, "How is she?" He asked hurriedly. The doctor had a sad look on his face, "I'm sorry Mr. Haddock. But we couldn't save her." The doctor said with a look of sympathy for the husband and son. Hiccup burst out crying and hugged his father learning that he would never be able to see his mother again. . .
End of Flashback. . .
Hiccup's P.O.V
I suddenly heard a truck honked at me, I saw that it was heading straight towards me. I quickly slammed my foot on the breaks, trying to stop my truck. But I was too late, the other truck ran into me and everything went black.
Stoick's P.O.V
My phone started to ring, I sighed and answered it. "Hello, are you Hiccup Haddock's father?" "Yes, this is. Is there a problem?" Stoick asked, wondering what trouble his son got into this time. "I'm sorry, but your son was in a car crash." The paramedic said. "What?! Is he ok?" Stoick asked. "He is in bad condition, sir. His left leg got crushed, he has a sprained wrist, he also got a bad concussion and has multiple bruises and scars." "Ok, I'm heading there right now," Stoick said as left the house and drove to the hospital in his car.
At the Hospital. . .
Hiccup's P.O.V
I woke to a pounding headache, I looked at my surroundings and saw that I was in the hospital. I noticed that I had a hospital gown on and that my arms were uncovered. I panicked and tried to find something to cover my arms. I can't let anyone see my cuts, but what's the point. The doctors probably saw the cuts already, I tried to sit up. But as I did I didn't feel my left leg, all I felt was from the knee and up. I finally looked down at the blanket and noticed that I didn't see my foot sticking up in the blanket like my right. I carefully picked up the blanket and pulled it off my legs, my breath hitched as I saw that bandages were wrapped around the knee. My left leg is gone! How did this happen?! Tears started to well up in my eyes, how could this have happened to me?!
Why is my life a such a mess, first I lose my mother, my dad starts abusing, I'm a nobody at school, and to top all that off I lost my bloody leg! Then I heard a knock I turned my head to the door and saw a doctor standing there with a clipboard in his hand, "Hello Hiccup." The doctor said as he walked towards my bed. "Uh. . . Hello." I replied nervously. "I see that you have woken up, how is your head feeling?" He asked getting ready to write on his clipboard. "J-just a minor headache, no-nothing too bad sir," I replied. "Ok, that's good that it is not that bad. So as I can see you already know about your leg, but I have a question for you. How did you get those bruises and cuts?" He asked with a hint of concern in his voice. "Uh. . ." Think, think, think, Hiccup. I can't tell him that my dad is abusing me and that I'm cutting myself. "Uh, I get them from school." I lied, well half lied. "Ok, do you get bullied I'm school?" He asked. I nodded my head and said, "Yes, sir. I do."
He wrote what I said down and asked, "Ok, and how often does it happen?" "Al-almost every day." I stuttered a little. "Ok, that exclaims the bruises, but what about the cuts on your arms?" The doctor asked looking at me. "I work at a car repair shop and sometimes I get cut by the metal when I fix the cars." I lied. "Ok, thank you for telling me and just so you know. We called your father and he is in the waiting room, I'm going to send him in." He said as he walked to the door. I was about to protest but it was too late because the doctor already left. My father walked in and thanked the doctor, then closed the door. "Hello, son," Stoick said as he brought a chair over then sat down beside my bed. "H-hi, dad," I said trying to avoid his gaze. "You know if you hadn't run away. This would've never happened." He stated coldly.
I scoffed at him, "Really? You're blaming this on me. If you wouldn't have hit me I wouldn't have "run away" as you said." I replied. "Don't get the tone with me boy. After you get discharged from this hospital. You're grounded and not allowed out of the house, only when you go to school!" He said raising his voice. "Well, I don't see how I can with one foot. Unless you expect me to hop to school." I stated sarcastically. "You'll have crutches or a wheelchair until you get a prosthetic," Stoick sighed with a look of frustration. "Just get me out of this bloody hospital," I said. Stoick got up from his seat and walked to the desk to get me discharged.
At the Haddock Residence. . .
As soon as I got home, I climbed the stairs carefully with my crutches and went to my room. As soon as I shut the door I leaned against it and slid down. "I hate my life," I said to no one in particular. "I wish you were still here with us mom. I miss you. Why did you have to leave us?" I started to cry, why am I still living? Why couldn't I just die from the crash, I would've been with mom. . .

I'm sorry if you think that I'm rushing with Hiccup's depression and if you think the arguments between Hiccup and Stoick are stupid, I'm not really good at writing stories yet. But I hope you liked this chapter and give some ideas if you want. -Zoey
