Chapter Twenty
Great.
Katari and DeVante weren't talking to each other, now what?
They had just had a pretty massive argument with each other over whose music was better and the ending result was for them to shut their doors and stop talking.
This had left Severin, Jordan Francis, Solana and Serayah in a very difficult position because they didn't know who to talk to.
DeVante and Katari weren't really ignoring each other though, it was all a prank.
The rest of them had kind of looked down on them because they were single introverts but this prank showed them that they could have had fun too.
"Awesome. If it wasn't for Solana and Serayah getting involved in DeVante's love life then none of this would have happened," Jordan Francis had complained.
The girls didn't mean any harm though, they were lowkey just trying to help.... but come to think of it maybe that wasn't the right thing to do at all.
If they wanted this to work then Solana, Serayah, Jordan Francis and Severin had to split up - one group had to talk to DeVante whilst the other had to talk to Serayah instead.
"Aight, so JF and I will go and talk to Katari," Severin had replied, putting his arm around Jordan Francis. "And y'all can go and talk to DeVante."
"Why can't you talk to DeVante and we talk to Katari?" Serayah frowned, folding her arms. "Or even better, we just go with our significant other."
Solana and Serayah had always talked to Katari.
And they had always talked to DeVante.
They wanted to switch things up.
They didn't want to go with their couples in case they had argued.
There was a higher chance of them arguing with their significant other than the person they were going with.
Either way, these teams were final and they didn't want to argue again.
Katari and DeVante were texting each other and laughing but as soon as they had heard footsteps, they had put their phones away and pretended to be annoyed at the other person.
"Heeeey, DeVante," Solana had said to him when both her as well as Serayah had arrived at his room, without his permission.
They had tried knocking on his door but he didn't reply, which was probably on purpose so they had just come in uninvitedly.
The boys had shared one room whilst the girls had shared another.
Couples would have shared a room but they didn't because not everybody here had a significant other so the makers of the retreat didn't want single people to feel left out.
But then what if your roommates fight? Someone had asked when Alicia Keys had told them this back at that meeting before the retreat had actually started.
Better for you to fight with your roommates than your significant other, right?
Obviously not fighting at all was the best option but even that was impossible for some people sometimes.
"This all your fault," DeVante had scowled when he had seen them, not even looking at them. "If neither of y'all had gotten involved in my love life then none of this would have happened."
The girls didn't say anything to each other, before sitting down on each side of DeVante.
Serayah was on his left.
Solana was on his right.
"DeVante, we're sorry."
"Why are y'all dragging me into your problems for, huh?" He had hissed, standing up, with the girls just staring at him. "You could have comforted Katari yourselves about this. I really don't know why you had to bring me into it."
To be fair that was kind of true.
DeVante didn't deserve to be brought into this at all.
Now he had kind of thought that they were sabotaging his relationship.
Why?
Because Katari might have been the only single girl that DeVante could have met at this retreat.
He could have met other girls too of course, but how many of them would have been single?
And due to Solana and Serayah, DeVante had blown it.
"It's just-"
"And how did Katari know about me before?"
DeVante had ranted. "We had never talked to each other. Were you guys talking about me behind my back?"
The girls had freaked out at that, kind of whisper arguing with each other over who should have answered the question.
Serayah had done so in the end because Solana had seemed to be saying everything.
"Yes but it was only because we believed that you were the right person for Katari," Serayah had replied. "Plus didn't Severin and Jordan Francis talk to you about her?"
"Yes, and I believe that both of us said that we weren't right for each other," DeVante had answered. "Whether we had met each other or not, we didn't need you guys interfering for us because look at what's happened. You guys must have influenced Katari pretty hard if she ended up lying and saying that I was her man during Truth or Dare."
He had lied and said that he was mad about that but he wasn't really.
In fact, he wanted both of them to get out because he couldn't even have looked at them right now, folding his arms at the same time.
They didn't leave though, they really wanted to make this right.
"Look, DeVante, we know you're mad at us for interfering with your love life," Serayah lamented. "But we're really sorry."
"Yeah, and we're tired of saying sorry because then it'll eventually lose its meaning. Just another cliché word. You get what I mean?" Solana had added, nodding. "Either way. You should talk to Katari. How does that sound?"
**********
"That's the worst idea I've ever heard!"
"Katari," Jordan Francis sighed. "No offence but you're kinda blowing this whole thing out of proportion. Okay, so DeVante had made fun of your music. But you made fun of his too, didn't you?"
As Solana and Serayah had suggested that DeVante should have talked to Katari, the boys had coincidentally suggested the same thing at the same time.
But the other way around.
"We made fun of each other's music."
"Yeah, but who started it?" Severin wanted to know, with him and Jordan Francis looking at her.
She didn't say anything, instead she had just looked at Severin... then Jordan Francis.
Then Severin again.
Katari rolled her eyes.
There was a lot of staring but there wasn't enough talking to each other.
"To be fair, we kind of started the argument at the same time," Katari had admitted truthfully, with the boys high fiving each other because that was kind of what they had predicted.
"Yes. Exactly. So if you guys started the argument simultaneously, you should be able to fix it together too, right?" Jordan Francis had questioned.
Seemed as though they weren't taking no for an answer because it was true.
They weren't.
Although at the same time, it had made a lot of sense.
They were all friends here so it would have been awkward if Katari and DeVante "weren't talking" to each other.
"Okay, fine. I'll apologise to DeVante although if he doesn't forgive me then there's nothing I can do, I'm afraid."
Severin and Jordan Francis were perfectly fine with that, leaving Katari's room and going to DeVante's.
Katari had knocked on the door, where DeVante had opened it, with Solana and Serayah watching from behind to see what would have happened.
"What?"
"I'm sorry," Katari had whispered, winking at him secretly. "Your music ain't trash. Jodeci ain't that bad."
When DeVante had heard that, he had smiled to himself and he had apologised.
They had made up, with the rest of them cheering and clapping.
DeVante and Katari had a huge confession to make though, with all of them glancing at them cluelessly since they wanted to know what it was.
"We fooled y'all!"
"We never argued," DeVante smiled, hugging Katari. "We were just messing with y'all 'cause you kind of got on our nerves all day."
The boys got on DeVante's nerves because they had kept on talking about how it was DeVante's "homework" to talk to Katari.
And the girls had gotten on Katari's on forcing her to come to the beach party even though she didn't want to come.
Some people would have been pretty furious at that but not the people this room, they got them pretty good.
Serayah was infuriated because they had all just tried to comfort each other for no reason, until Solana and Severin too for that matter had told her to just let everything go.
After that they had all gotten ready for the beach costume party and the retreat went pretty well.
A few arguments but they managed to solve it.
But the problem had started on Day 5 of the retreat (the retreat was 7 days in total) when Severin had started dreaming about another woman in the room.
That wasn't his girl...
