Chapter 4

Austin's POV

I lost Lilly at some point and I was more than grateful. She was annoying. You know how in those really cheesy teen movies there is always that girl who is full of herself and walks around chewing bright pink bubble gum and twirling it around their finger, well that was her. There is only one set of lips I would like to see with pink bubble gum in them, wrapping it around their pale finger and-

Okay enough Austin.

I hid in a corner while I watched my dad move around the room chatting with different business associates. I sipped slightly on the tea in my hand, I had never liked champagne. This was boring and I wanted more than anything to get out of here. I didn't want to go sit down at the fancy table and have questions thrown at me. I have answered the basics a thousand times over.

"So Austin do you find your fathers line of work interesting?"
Yes I do. I'm actually studying it right now.

"Is there a special someone in your life?"
No.

"Do you plan on having kids?"
I don't know.

""Are you excited to join your fathers company once you graduate?"
Yes

"How are your grades?"
Pretty good.

"Have you meet my niece so and so she's lovely and newly single?"
Not interested.

I motioned my dad over and he came to me with a grumpy look on his face.
"Yes Austin?"
"Can I please leave." I was close to begging at this point.
"Fine. I'll tell them you got sick." He grumbled and I thanked him before heading out the door. I caught the nearest bus and I knew exactly where I wanted to go.

Thirty minutes later I pulled up outside of the KFC. I hoped he was working. Sure enough as i stepped through the doors I saw his bright hair.
"Hey Alan." I said giving him my best smile.
"Hey." He said and blushed. "What can I get you?" He said and gestured to the menu.
"When your lunch break?"
"Umm ten minutes. Why?"
"Because I thought we could eat together. It doesn't have to be here." Please say yes. Please say yes.

"Umm yea sure." He smiled.
"Okay I'll wait."
"Alan go ahead!" Someone from the back yelled. Alan looked to me then back to the kitchen.  "I said go!" The voice yelled and chuckled.  Alan moved around from the counter after grabbing his bag and pulled me towards the door. We walked around the small shopping complex until we stopped in front of a bakery.
"Sweets?" I said with a laugh. "Your sweet enough." He blushed and pushed me inside.

He went to the counter and ordered for the both of us.
"Two turkey with the usual and lemonade." He said and reached for his wallet. I stood on front of him and paid the bill with my credit card before he could protest.
"Austin you didn't have to." He said.
"Of course I did." I said and grabbed his hand leading him to a nearby table. We sat in silence for a few moments before he spoke up.

"So why are you dressed up?" He asked with a smile. I swear that was the best sight I had ever seen.
"Business dinner with my dad. I begged him to let me leave."
"How old are you?"
"I'll be twenty tomorrow. I know what your thinking, why did I have beg my dad to let me leave it's something about his image as a family man." I said waving it off as the waitress sat our food and drinks down.
"Ohh who is your dad?" He said taking a sip of his lemonade.
"Robert Carlile." Alan spit his drink everywhere causing me to laugh.
"Robert Carlile as is the computer company owner. Big building down town, thousands of dollars to his name." He said in disbelief.
"Yep that's him." I nodded. "It's not as glamorous as it seems though." He cocked his head to the side and wait for me to elaborate.

"Yes theirs money but that only gets you fake friends and relationships. To be honest yes I love and my father does, it interests me but if I barely made anything I would still do it. I'm not in it for the money."
"So you work for your dad?"
"Not yet. I'm in college studying at the moment. How about you?"
"I'm still in high school." He said looking down. "Senior, I'm 17."
"When your birthday?"
"Couple weeks. What about you?"
"Tomorrow."
"Ohh Happy Birthday then."
"Thanks...hey they guys are throwing me a party, nothing to major do you want to come?" I asked hopefully. He thought a minute.
"I'm sorry Austin I don't know if I can. I have to watch my brothers." He said and looked down sadly.
"Hey it's not a big deal. Maybe we can hang out another time if you don't get to come." He nodded and we continued to eat and chat for a bit. I walked him back to work and said goodbye before waking down the street leisurely. I was in no rush to get home.

Eventually I did make it back to my house. No one was there and it was eerily quiet.
I went to my room and fell on the bed. My chat with Alan kept coming back and I smiled. I wanted to ask him in a date. Made I could do that sometime this week. He was so cute. The way he seemed shy and he obliviously loved his family, with the way he talked about his brothers. Alan seemed perfect and I really wanted to get to know him.
