Alan's POV
Things had been calm since the funeral, in a way I guess. Things sorta went back to normal. I went back to work and school, Cole went back to school as well, and Well Austin had basically moved in with us. I talked to him about Momma and Mason often, usually before we both fell asleep. I was trying to get back into the swing of things but it was still hard. I couldn't get over the fact that they were just gone.
Mommas room was left just like it was and Mason's stuff was never moved. I often found Cole sleeping on Mason's bed instead of his own. Cole would talk about Mason constantly and it broke my heart every time. It was always Mason would have loved this, Mason would have picked this movie to watch, and stuff like that. He had lost his best friend but he was trying, and successfully, to keep Mason's memory alive. He had also clutched a lot to Austin. He was always wanting to hear stories or wanting him to play with him and Austin just went along with about everything Cole wanted.
Today was a Saturday and they had both left to go somewhere I wasn't sure to be honest. I was just lying on the couch listening to the sound of the tv fill up the room. Besides school and work I didnt go out of the house. I just didn't feel like I could. I didn't want to socialize. Austin and Cole were my social fill. I guess you could say I was in a depressed like funk but to be honest it was expected. I just did not have the motivation to do much of anything anymore and I kind of embraced it.
I'm not exactly sure how long I laid on the couch but eventually I dozed off and only woke up when someone was shaking my shoulder. I slowly opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was Austin's smile. I smiled sleepily and made grabby hands at him.
"Not now Princess. I need you to get up."
I huffed at his sentence but raised up anyway. "Okay once you get woke up come into the dining room. I just nodded and rested my head against the back of the couch I really didn't want to get up.
After a few minutes I got up from the couch and stretched my arms out before untwisting the shirt of Austin's I had been wearing along with plaid patterned pajama bottoms. I walked to the dining room and the lights were off. I felt my way around in the dark and flipped the switch.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" Was screamed at me as those kazoo whistlers went off. I looked to the two culprits and saw Cole and Austin smiling widely a giant cake with 18 flaming candles between them. I smiled softly at them and shook my head.
"Guys my birthday was two weeks ago." I said.
"We know but we're going to celebrate now." Austin said.
"Guys I really appreciate it bu-"
"No!" I turned to look at Cole surprised that he had yelled.
"No Ally we're not going to not celebrate this. I want you to be happy and I thought this would make you happy. I know you miss Momma and Mase and so do I but Ally I miss you too." I stared at him confused at he continued talking. "It's like you're not even there anymore. We don't do the things we used to and you're almost like a zombie. I'm afraid you're going to hurt yourself or if it's possible just fade." His eyes got that watery look and I knew he was getting ready to cry. "It's like you're gone and I can't lose you too Ally. I can't."
I walked over to Cole and pulled him into my arms. "Im sorry." I said to him as he clutched onto my shirt. I looked at Austin and he had a sad smile on his face.
I held Cole until he stopped crying and then I blew out my candles as they sang happy birthday. Then they both handed me a rectangular wrapped gift. I quirked an eyebrow at Austin since i knew he had to buy it then I tore into the paper. I was now holding a new guitar. I smiled at the both of them and pulled them in for a hug.
After that I helped them clean up the mess from our little celebration and we all went to watch a movie. Cole sat on the recliner under an old blanket of Mommas and I was cuddled into Austin's arms. Halfway through the movie Cole fell asleep and I turned to Austin.
"Was I really like Cole said?" He hummed and nodded his head.
"Yea. You really worried us Alan."
"I can't believe he got he idea I would hurt myself."
"I don't know either, he's talked about it non stop. Well more like just that fact that he's afraid you'll leave him." He said and I sat up straight and turned to look at him.
"So you're telling me my seven year old brother has been talking about people committing suicide and you didn't tell me?" I said kind of angry.
"What was I supposed to do Alan? You were kinda locked inside your own head." He said with a look of disbelief on his face.
"Don't blame this on me!" I shot up from the couch.
"I'm not! All I said was how was I supposed to break it to you that your brother was talking about suicide when you were basically nothing but a moving piece of mass and I was afraid it would put ideas in your head." He said also standing up in front of me.
"You really think I would commit suicide! I'm not that weak, I'm not a coward." I said with a laugh then looked at Austin his face was blank.
"Well some of can't avoid being a coward." He said quietly. Before I could process what he said he had picked up his phone and keys and was shutting the door behind him.
