I wasn't ogling him
Chapter 14
"Bro! I can't believe no one told me about this god damn calculus quiz," I say freaking out since we had calculus next, "I'm already doing horrible in calculus, this is literally my last chance to prove that I'm smart."
James raises an eyebrow, "Chill! It's just a Quiz."
"Just a quiz?" I frown, "My future depends on this!"
"Stop exaggerating." He rolls his eyes, turning around and facing the board. The bell rings and my heart drops to my feet as the teacher enters the class with a stack of papers.
I groan taking out my calculator and Aiden snorts from beside me. I shove him as he glares, Rude. The teacher distributes the papers and I look at mine with distaste. I look at Aiden to see that he had already started writing his answers in clear bold writing.
I sigh and try solving whatever I can. What the fuck is this? I don't even remember her teaching us this. Soon enough, the teacher collects the papers and I slump against the table. I look at Luke sitting rows ahead of me, to see him discussing answers with Bella and James. The teacher gives us the rest of the period free since there were five minutes remaining.
I sit up when I hear the bell ring. Quickly putting my calculator back in my bag and grabbing the lunch the Georgie had wrapped, I walk to the cafeteria with James, Bella and Luke.
I sit on my lunch table with a loud thud and open the lunch bag. I smile when I see Georgie's homemade burger with fries. She even put a small note. I open the note and read "Good luck, study well."
Luke gets a, "Don't steal Evelyn's food" and we all burst out laughing. Taking a bite of my burger, I sigh in satisfaction. Nothing beats food. James takes a fry from my box and I swat his hand away when he tries to take another one. He shrugs innocently and continues eating his sandwich.
We eat in peace and my gaze falls on Aiden and Cameron sitting alone. Cameron talks animatedly but Aiden just sits with a blank expression, I look a little closely to see him furrow his eyebrows or bite his lips quite often. He suddenly makes eye contact with me and I stay frozen as his intense stare looks through my soul.
I break I contact at James snapping his fingers in front of my face, "What's up Eve? You look distracted."
"It's nothing," I smile taking the last bite. Luke looks at me with a frown, "What is it Eve?"
"Nothing at all!" I smile reassuringly, "I was just looking around."
"More like staring at a certain someone," Bella smirks nodding towards where Aiden and Cameron sat. James and Luke both turn around to look at the direction Bella nodded at.
"Ohh, I see," James raises his eyebrows suggestively, "No wonder you looked distracted, you were busy gazing him."
An unintentional blush creeps up my neck, "I wasn't ogling him. I was just looking at how someone like Aiden can be friends with a person like Cameron," I say, "I mean they are such different people."
"Aiden wasn't always like this you know," James says stealing another fry of mine, "He was that one charming guy that everyone liked."
I frown, "Wait what? The only vibe he gives is 'Leave me the fuck alone. '"
"I don't know what happened, no one really knows. But he's been like this forever now," Bella says, "it's not that he was that friendly in the first place, but everyone liked him for some reason. But now, he barely even talks to anyone."
James nods, "Yeah, I was surprised when he talked to you the other day in English."
"We were arguing."
"Still," he shrugs, "that counts you know."
"Interesting," Says Luke.
The rest of the day passes by in a flash and before I know it, I'm back home in my room. I decide to do some homework while munching on Flamin' hot Cheetos. My phone buzzes with a text;
Matt: Come on Skype.
ME: Coming!
I grab the laptop from the side-table and video call them. "Hey, guys!" I greet in a tired voice.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Sally inquires, I look at her to see Ricky sleeping next to her with his arm wrapped around her and I instantly smile. Goals.
"Nothing, just been a long day," I say, "and I still have work to go to."
Matt huffs, "of course it was, I wasn't there!"
"Don't shout!" Sally hisses, "Ri is sleeping."
I chuckle and a heavy feeling burdens me, I miss them so much. My heart constricts as I talk to them about anything and everything. I smile again as Ricky stirs awake before pulling Sally closer and sleeping again. We hang up when it's around 5, time to work.
Luke decides to drive me to work, "Because I'm an amazing twin." He says when I ask why.
When we reach, he wishes me luck and tells me to text him when I'm done. I take a deep breath as I enter Target.
"Hey, how can I help you?" An employee immediately greets as I enter the store.
"Oh, it's the first day of my job here," I say with a casual shrug.
"Really, well what's your name? I'll ask my manager," He says, casually pointing towards the door that was labelled with Manager.
"Evelyn."
A look of recognition flickers on his face, "Oh... yeah, I remember come I'll show you around or whatever." He says walking towards aisle one.
"You don't have to show me around the store you know," I chuckle, "Just tell me what I'll have to do."
"Right," he smiles, "okay, follow me." We walk to the back of the store and stop in front of two large doors labelled 'STORAGE ROOM.'
"This is it," he says, "You can restock the stuff from here."
I nod looking around; this should be interesting, "Oh, by the way, you didn't tell me your name."
"I'm Brent, nice to meet you," he says shaking my hand, "Let's go meet the Manager I guess."
We head to the office and Brent opens the door casually walking in. Inside the same elderly man from the interview sits working on the computer, "Hello Evelyn, glad you can make it." I mutter a shy hello as he points at Brent, "Brent here will give you your schedule and you can get started right away."
I thank him, about to walk out when he stops me, "Oh here is your uniform." he says handing me the red t-shirt and brown pants.

"What are you doing?!" I scream just as Luke trips and falls. He is that one annoying guy who never ties his shoelaces. He gets up dusting his pants and walks as if nothing happened. Bella and I make eye contact and laugh.
Mr Rainer walks in class with a giant grin on his face and wishes everyone a good morning, "Okay class, today we'll learn about-"
He continues talking about the nitrogen cycle until the bell rings and in walks our calculus teacher. I frown sharing a look with James.
"Okay class, I'm going to distribute your quiz results. When I call your names, come and take your paper."
One by one everyone gets up and takes there papers. I doze off until I hear my name. I walk slowly to take the paper and visibly wince when I see a 2/10 stamped on the paper. I go back to my seat and notice a 'See me after class,' scrawled down at the bottom of the page.
The bell rings and I wait for everyone to go out, but Brian and Aiden patiently wait in their seats not budging to move. The teacher begins by saying, "I'm disappointed in your grades Eveliosa-" I huff but stay silent as she continues, "-All the teachers are praising your excellent abilities and I'm sad to see your poor performance in Calculus."
"But I'll study on my own," I argue, "I don't need a tutor."
Aiden looks like he's gonna stab himself and Brian just looks terrified. Wait a minute.... "Miss, why can't Brian tutor me?" I suggest. Aiden nods agreeing, but Brian squeaks and Aiden and I both glare at him.
"No, not Brian," she shakes her head, "And before you ask me why it's because you'll ditch him." She then turns and looks at Aiden, "Its either you let Aiden continue tutoring you or Aiden won't get his recommendation letter from me."
At that Aiden immediately gets up and faces me with a hard look. "Fine," I mutter, staying rooted to my spot. Brian lets out a sigh out of relief and I shoot him another deadly glare before the teacher speaks again, "And to confirm your sessions, you will get a paper signed and record audio as proof."
"Anything else?" I question irritated.
"That will be all, now Brian about the calculus competition-"
I walk out angry, someone calls my name out but I ignore it walking faster. Heavy footsteps echo in the empty hallway and before I know, a hand grabs my arm and I crash into a hard chest. I gasp and look up to see a pair of highly irritated yet beautiful brown eyes.
My heart races at our close proximity. We fall out of our trance and he lets me go, "When do we start?" his deep voice echoes.
"I don't know, you tell me," I say.
"I'm on a quite tight schedule, so is it okay if I text you whenever I'm free so we can study?" he asks.
"Yea sure, gimme your number." I hand him my phone and he types in his number while I do the same for his.
I hand him the phone back not before saving the contact. He huffs when he sees it and raises an eyebrow, "You saved your number under 'That one hot chick.' Really?"
"You know it's true," I say with a smile, I look down at my phone to see that he saved his number under his name, "Really? That's the best you've got?"
I quickly change the contact under 'That arrogant jerk' and smile in satisfaction. He looks at it and scowls. Taking his phone out again and changes my contact to 'That redheaded bitch.'
"Whatever," I say and we walk to the gym, more like I stomp inside. The teacher announces that we're going to play basketball and I relax. Basketball is my thing since Luke and I were always alone, we were stuck playing basketball because he wouldn't play doll-house with me. I smile fondly at the memories.
"Aiden, Evelyn you both are in Troy's team." The teacher says interrupting my train of thoughts. I whip my head towards Aiden and scoff. Seriously, life is playing some odd joke with me.
I walk towards the team, Aiden stands there with a scowl on his face. Asshole.
The game starts and that's when shit gets real. Since I was the scorer, I was to stay under the net, but every time Aiden got the ball, he would never pass it to me and throw it himself without even a glance in my direction.
This continued until the scores of the opposite team and ours were neck to neck. Mark, from the other team, silently runs behind Aiden who dribbles the ball. I shout at him to pass the ball but of course, the asshole doesn't listen. Mark gets closer and knowing what he had planned, I snatch the ball from Aiden and throw it in the loop. I don't get time to see if whether or not it goes in when Aiden crashes into me and I stumble backwards, falling on the ground with Aiden falling on top of me.
"Fuck!" we both curse.
"Goddamn," he hisses over the deafening screams, we sort of freeze when we realize the position in which we were. Our team gathers around us and everyone just falls on top of each other and he gets even more squished on me.
I gasp and he grunts as his face nears mine. Our eyes lock again and I'm hypnotized by his now dark angry eyes. Our faces are too close, if I lean a little closer we'll be kissing. He looks at me with an unreadable expression as everyone peels themselves off of us. He too gets up and walks away. I sit up and try to calm my racing heart.
Whoa, what was that?
I quickly get up and run out of the gym.
