Song- Welcome to Wonderland

Draco was discovering that being a king was more responsibility than he had planned on.

He sat on a gold throne, with a gold crown, in a gold room.

God, he fucking hated gold.

He fucking missed Harry.

What the pair hadn't realized upon taking their titles as rulers of their own countries was that they would be separate quite often. Harry was often moving between the Gryffindor and Slytherin kingdoms, and Draco was too busy to ever go visit him at either. He supposed Harry was similarly busy.

What if he's found someone else? a voice in the back of his head whispered. You haven't seen him in a month, maybe he's moved on.

He did his best to ignore that voice.

It didn't work very well.

Not to mention, even if he wasn't overwhelmed with work, the screaming people outside the castle would surely kill him on sight if he stepped outside.

Blaise remained as far away from Draco as he could. Pansy was distant as well, mourning the fact that she could never see her lover, who was still hiding in an undisclosed location to avoid being attacked. Ron stopped coming by, too afraid of the crowds outside.

"Me being coronated was supposed to fix things," Draco whispered.

"Being coronated never fixes anything," his mother murmured. "Some things you have to do yourself."

Draco didn't ask what that meant. He didn't care.

Yet another guard came in, the gold of his sword hilt glinting in the light, paper in hand. Draco stood.

"Just set them on the throne. I'll be back," he said. He couldn't stand the gold room any longer. He took off his crown and left it on the throne, before walking out of the room.

He didn't know how long he walked around for. Minutes, hours, it could have been days for all he knew. But he finally found himself on the tower once again.

He was greeted with the sickening sight of Blaise sitting on the edge, legs dangling above the ground a hundred feet below.

"Oh god, Blaise-" he started, but he was cut off by a soft laugh.

"Not this time. I'm just watching the sun set."

"Why do you have to sit on the edge?"

Blaise just shrugged. "If I'm meant to die right now, I'll die. If I don't, it's not my time."

Draco considered this, before carefully joining Blaise in sitting on the edge of the castle wall.

"Are you enjoying being a king?" Blaise asked softly.

"No. It's stressful, and I never see Harry, and nothing is working out, and I fucking hate-"

"-gold," Blaise finished, laughing softly.

Draco relaxed, and let a smile cross his own face. "You know me too well."

Blaise just nodded, a sad smile crossing his own face. "If I were king, I'd make sure no one ever had to go through life thinking they were a mistake."

"I miss you," Draco whispered.

"Please don't," Blaise whispered. He rested his head on Draco's shoulder. "Just watch the sunset with me."

Draco obeyed. They stayed like that, watching the sun lazily settle into the horizon in a spray of red and orange and yellow and deep black that soon stretched across the whole sky.

It wasn't until they were in complete darkness that Blaise spoke.

"You almost kept your promise."

"Hm?"

"You didn't marry Pansy. You punished the people who killed Dean and Seamus. You sentenced Theodore Nott to death. You showed the world what happens to people like us. But you didn't marry Harry."

"We can't. Not yet. I haven't seen him in a month. He might-"

"He might what? Not love you anymore? Draco, I've seen the way he looks at you. It's- well, it's the same way I look at you. Draco, I haven't seen you in a month, and I still love you. It's going to take a long time for my feelings to go away. But my point is, I still love you after a month. I swear to you, he does too."

"How long have you-"

"Years."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be."

They sat in silence for a while longer, staring into the void of blackness in the sky, at the glittering stars that provided tiny spots of light but could never illuminate the whole picture, at the moon that stood prominently in the center of the sky.

"I don't know what to do," Draco whispered into the silence of the night. "The world is falling apart, and it's my fault."

"Then fix it."

"I wasn't made to be a king."

"And I wasn't made to be a girl. We can change our fate, Draco. I of all people know what it's like to feel wrong with what you're born into."

Draco let out a shaky breath. "I'm lost."

"Let's be lost together."
