Chapter 2

Dan stumbled dazed towards his body and Phil. He dropped, rather fell: down to his knees and crawled over closer to Phil who was still clutching onto Dan: well, what used to be Dan.

"Phil, what's going on." He gazed glazy eyed at him as there was no response. "Phil..." He whimpered more tears starting to work their way out. He buried his head into the crook of Phil's neck. Phil moved his head up.

"Daniel... please, come back." He carefully pushed Dan's hair back, blood smearing his pasty white skin. He was a mess, both of them were. Well three if you were to count Dan's metaphysical form. Dan moved back from the crying Phil. Phil looked up at the sky his eyes filled with anger and sadness. "Why!" He cried out, anger twisting throughout his voice. He turned back to Dan's limp body and gently caressed his face, each breath hitched. Dan couldn't stand to see him like this any longer. He gripped at Phil's shoulders and attempted to shake them violently.

"Phil, look at me." He didn't budge. Dan wiped his tears away with his forearm. "Phil, look at me." He screamed. "Phil, I'm still here." He couldn't stand this any longer. He lunged towards Phil's chest and wrapped his arms around him tightly. Phil just stayed there, blank faced. Dan sobbed heavily into Phil's shirt leaving no mark but there they stayed for a few passing minuets. Phil started to stir as the paramedics approached him cautiously. One knelt down next to him and put a solemnly put a hand on his shoulder. Dan pulled away and fell down onto his rear, palms breaking the small insignificant fall. Dan watched mindlessly at the paramedic; a young woman, who talked quietly with Phil. She directed him over to nearby police officers who started to interview the crying mess.

Dan pushed himself back up to his feet and clumsily ran after Phil. He stepped over his lifeless body which frankly he found quite disturbing and made it half way to Phil but quickly stopped when he heard the crinkling of plastic behind him. Dan spun on his heels only to witness his body being zipped up into a black body bag. "No, no, no." He whispered under his breath, not that it would matter of the loudness of his voice. He ran more steadily towards them and gripped his hands on the side of the stretcher. "Please, don't take me away." He pleaded. "Phil..." He looked back behind him. "Don't let them take me away. I'm still here!" He shouted even louder. He dropped his hands to his sides as the stretcher was ripped away from him. The ambulance doors slammed shut and it sped off down the street leaving Dan surrounded in a fume of exhaustion gas. Standing still he craned his head to look towards Phil. Hopelessness waved over him as he stared at the ebony haired man. Shaking his head slightly a glimmer caught his attention. He staggered over towards the objects shattered on the ground. The headlights from the car that was stopped in front of them cast no shadow of Dan. He knelt down on one knee and stared down at the objects that were none other than the trophies they shared. Scuffed, damaged and broken. He bit his lip slightly and reached down to pick them up, but nothing happened it. It was if he could touch his surroundings but he had no reaction to them, if he were to push an object it would stay in place no matter the strength of the force. He rubbed his eyes furiously hoping to wake up but all that resulted in was patters forming behind his eye lids.

He rose from his keeling position and stood up straight. "Okay Dan..." He muttered to himself. "It doesn't have to make sense, but this is what's happening right now and you have to deal with it. Okay?" He reassured himself expecting an answer. He frowned and scoffed at himself. He looked around him, at the confusion of the events, the mess it had created then spotted Phil. "Phil." He walked slowly over to him and listened into the conversation. He watched as Phil wiped his eyes with his forearm.

"I'm so sorry, but you are a witness of the accident so you will have to answer our questions" The police officer interrogated.

"Y-Yeah, I understand." Phil sniffled.

"What was the victim's name?"

"Daniel James Howell." The physical pain Phil felt saying those simple words was like a stab wound to his chest. He fidgeted with his belt loops on his slacks. The officer scribbled something down in his note book then looked back up at Phil.

"This may be hard for you but I need you to describe the events of the accident and everything leading up to it as well." Phil gulped and nodded. As Phil described the situation the officer kept writing notes. Dan lent his head on Phil's and put an arm around him. The only thing he wished for was to be able to comfort Phil, to let him know that he was still there and that he would never leave him.

"Everything's going to be okay Phil" He whispered despite not being heard. "I promise."
