•okay, so the quote i used for her is kind of a lie bc she's like, the most popular girl in school, but she actually doesn't have any super close friends. maybe the hbif, but she's more of just an ally since a friendship goes both ways and she doesn't seem to know anything about her best friend, oddly enough. to mostly everyone she's a little cold and seems reserved but never too bully like or super mean-spirited. most people would describe her as relatively agreeable, but they wouldn't know too much about her other than she'd the typical 'popular girl' you'd see in a movie-rich, can be a little bit rude sometimes, bit of a snob, but otherwise, everyone loves her. maybe it's sucking up to get on her family's good side, sis doesn't really know.
•but for all of her mostly good traits, there's the side of her that's jealous and unhealthily competitive. with her parents being so influential, there's a constant pressure to be perfect. the best representation of her jealously is probably her hatred towards the giant and the beanstalk, because all her life, meg has been the pretty girl, the smart girl, the well-rounded one that's a pride and joy for her family and she knows for a fact that giant and the beanstalk is prettier than her and it makes her unbelievably angry. for all of her high school career, she's done all the things she should- take hard classes, get a perfect gpa, run for homecoming queen, run for prom queen, try out for cheerleading, do debate club, win prizes for academic competitions. all her trophies are first place, every ribbon blue, sparkly crowns on shelves from parents and everything else. this pressure to be perfect has taken an immense toll on her mental health, making her irritable and angry when things aren't just right, not to mention the overwhelming fear of failure she suffers from, not to mention the anxiety that surrounds messing up for fear of ruining her parent's and her own reputation.
•much to her parent's disappointment, megan is extremely closed off and standoffish to them. she doesn't feel like she can trust them at all. meg feels like the failure of the family, like she can't do anything to live up to the reputation she needs to have. she's been known to lash out angrily towards her mother, not that anyone outside of the family knows this, and she got sent to a christian camp over the summer once to straighten her out, so she hides everything from them now. she's dating the huntsman to make them happy and to make herself normal, because she's horribly and deeply insecure about every single aspect of her- her body, her personality, her face, her sexuality. it feels like the cycle never ends for her, that she's never happy. she has a prescription for an anxiety medication that no one knows about so she doesn't lose her head, and occasionally uses it to get herself high.

•the de loughrey family is easily one of the most powerful families in the entire town. they're old money, generations of hard workers to get to the top, and there's not a single flaw with them. every couple is a perfect match to each other and they never fight, which is actually true. her parents love each other a lot. however, megan's parents are extremely strict, focused on precision and order, keeping close tabs on their daughter. some would call them helicopter parents, but it's worked, hasn't it? meg is the most popular girl in school, is conventionally pretty, and most importantly, is perfect like the rest of her family. this is what fueled her eating disorder, because she'd go into the kitchen at night and eat everything in sight to get rid of stress, which worked until her mother noticed her weight gained and freaked out. that's when she learned to make herself throw up, which kept the weight off. she's been doing this since she was twelve, and it's now so severe that she does it after every meal. beach bunny said shut up, count your calories and sis done listened.
•with the pressure to look perfect comes the pressure to actually be perfect. she discovered she was interested in girls freshman year, and lost her mind. she started dating the huntsman a little while later, to fix herself, to try and fix herself, make it so she didn't like girls anymore. it didn't work, and she started talking to the football captain of the rival school, and before long, they'd met up and started sort of dating, she guessed. it was risky, but they haven't been caught yet, though the distance between them and meg constantly trying to hide each and every flaw about herself is starting to strain their relationship. she knows it won't last, she'll have to marry her boyfriend because her parents like them, will continue her family's legacy as she should, but it's fun while it lasts.
•she's been best friends with the head bitch in following for years now, which is weird, because she knows nothing about the other girl. they're close in the sense that they'll spend time with each other a lot and meg tells her everything, but it all feels... fake, like the rest of her life. for a very brief while, around the time she was figuring out her sexuality, she thought she had a crush on the girl, but it was very quickly written off because she doesn't see her like that. really, meg would be in so much trouble if the hbif ever got angry with her, because she complains about so much stuff to her, including things about her parents, that if it were to come out, she'd be in so much trouble, so she walks on eggshells near her to avoid making her upset in any way.
