Chapter 7
Some time ago, everything was different. I wasn't sick, I didn't have to take care of Jungkook, I didn't have to work, there were no fights(besides our tickle fights), mom and dad were there for us.
I guess it was fate that took them away from us. Didn't I work hard enough? Wasn't I good enough? Or were we to be punished for something I did not know?
It was to never be discovered, the only thing I knew, was that they were gone and it left a big hole in my heart. I remember the times with my dad, laughing and playing together when Jungkook and I were small, and even when we weren't that small anymore.
I remember my mother singing to us when putting us in bed, her delicious cooking I always had 2 plates of, her hair which I liked to braid when I was young.
It was no more, but I couldn't dwell on the past anymore. My thoughts slipped away like shells taken into the sea at tide.
"How are you managing that little rascal?" Mrs. Kim asked.
"Mom!" Jin gave her a warning look to which she shrugged. It took me a few seconds to think about who she was talking about.
"Jungkook? He's-.... I'm managing" I mumbled. I grabbed a spoon of ice cream and ate the cold delicacy, putting the pack of ice on my nose as I enjoyed it's sweet taste on my tongue.
"He's just confused I guess" I sighed. I was making excuses for him, why I didn't know.
"From what I've heard he's a rude little thing" another look from Jin. "What? It's the truth!"
"Please don't talk about my brother like that" I frowned, Jin's mother was nothing like the polite boy himself.
"Of course, excuse my rudeness" she said. I nodded and continued eating my tasty treat, it softened the words she just spoke to me.
I knew Jungkook was rude, but I couldn't let someone talk my family down like that.
"Mom, how about you go help in the kitchen, the chef needs a bit of help" Jin interrupted the awkward silence. His mom stood up and walked away with a small greet.
"I'm terribly sorry" Jin apologised, taking a seat across me.
"It's alright, no harm done"
"It's just-... I know that Jungkook can be a little... difficult sometimes" it sounded more like a question than a statement. "I just want to say that I'm able to help if needed"
Thoughts raced through my head, would he really be able to help? What if I told him about the situation, what would he do? I shook my head, ridding the questions away.
"It's fine, he's not home that much either" I gave him a smile. My energy had just about returning, so I decided to head home before some groceries defrosted.
"I should go, thank you for the treat, I'll repay you" My empty wallet flashed through my head. "Sometime"
"Don't worry about that, we've also stayed over a lot to eat, it's the least I could do" he smiled. I stood up and grabbed my groceries, flashing one more smile before bidding goodbye.
When I reached home and had put everything away, I was completely wrecked. My arms were once again seemingly dead, my legs felt like jelly.
I slowly laid myself down on the couch, grabbing the remote to turn on the tv. I was zapping through the channels when Jungkook came home.
Suddenly the remote was taken from my hand and I watched as Jungkook put it on another channel, showing a boxing match.
I was too tired to argue with him, simply turning around to try to fall asleep.
"What's for dinner?" I was almost gone to sleep when he spoke.
"I don't know" my voice was rasped and low, it hurt in my throat.
"Jimin and Hoseok are staying over tonight" He said. I sighed tiredly, I was not in the mood for this.
"Call them off, I'm not cooking dinner, go get take out" I sighed. I know he wouldn't be happy with this.
"What? I'm not calling them off, it's your job to cook food!" His voice rose to a higher and loud tone.
"It's not my job, I'm not your mother" I sighed. It was quiet for a few seconds.
"All you do is laze around all day, you're practically useless" he scoffed before marching upstairs with large strides.
I laid there on the couch, thinking about his words. He had no idea, he genuinely didn't know what I had to give up for him. A tear ran down my cheek, quickly wiped away by a shaking hand.
The bell rang, I sat up slowly and slugged to the door, resting a second before opening it with faked enthusiasm.
"Hello" I smiled, it was Jimin and Hoseok. They greeted me and walking inside, slipping off their shoes and jackets.
"Where's Jungkook?" Jimin asked. I pointed upstairs and started walking back to the couch. They nodded and disappeared up the stairs.
Just as I went to sit back down, the bell rang again. I walked back once more and opened it, this time not taking the effort to seem less tired.
"Hey Taetae" Baekhyun smiled excitedly. Chanyeol waved from behind him.
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked surprised.
"We are coming over for dinner, so I'll start preparing it" Baekhyun said. He walked to the kitchen before I could say anything else and disappeared from sight.
"Let's sit down, you look tired" Chanyeol grabbed my shoulder to guide me back to the couch. I laid back down and smiled at him fondly. He sat on the ledge besides me, looking down at me.
"Thank you"
"No worries, we're glad to help" he hesitated to say more. "What was it like?" He was talking about the chemo.
"I don't know hyung, it was.... weird" I shrugged, my hand went to the pat-a-cath in my chest, touching it lightly. "I didn't really feel anything, it just took a lot of energy after"
"Just lay down and rest, okay? we'll take care of everything for now" he kissed my forehead and left to help Baekhyun in the kitchen.
I bit my lip, feeling guilty. Jungkook's right,?I was useless and had to let everything be done for me. It didn't feel right, but I knew I couldn't do it myself or refuse their help.
Next thing I knew was being woken up by Baekhyun. I groaned and squinted my eyes. Was it already evening? I realised dinner was ready and made my way towards the table.
Everyone was waiting for me, besides Jungkook who was already munching on his food. I as down and smiled at my friends in gratitude, taking a small bite.
As delicious as the food was, it was difficult to keep down. I pushed the nauseous feeling back and continued eating small bites. My hand was trembling as I lifted it to put the food in my mouth. I glanced down at it and back up to the others, no one had noticed. My energy was about gone as I took a last bite, feeling it coming up already.
"Excuse me, I think I've had enough, it was delicious, thanks guys" I strained myself to smile.
"I'll put some in the microwave for you if you want it later on" Baekhyun said, looking at my nearly untouched food. I nodded slowly and stood up from my place, holding onto the chair for a moment to keep myself steady.
"Why can't he do it himself, he's done nothing but laze around all day" Jungkook scoffed, pushing his empty plate away.
"Don't take that tone" Chanyeol warned. Chanyeol was a nice big fluffy guy, but if you make him mad, you're in for a lot of trouble.
"You don't have a say over me" Jungkook seethed back.
"Jungkook, let's go upstairs" Hoseok proposed, distracting the youngest.
I had already moved to the stairs, but was shoved aside when Jungkook pushed past me. I bumped into a table with magazines and stumbled over it, taking the small table and it's contends with me as I fell down with a soft cry.
"Taehyung!"
I felt pain shoot through my back as I laid on the ground, it was on the same spot as the bruise from a few weeks back which hadn't gone away yet. My arms were lifted and soon enough I was back on my feet. Jimin was standing in front of me and held my arms to steady me, looking concerned. I groaned in pain and my head was spinning like crazy.
"Are you alright?" Jimin asked, to which I nodded slowly. I was taken over by Chanyeol as Baekhyun lifted the back of my shirt to inspect for any wounds.
Jungkook was already up the stairs, leaving his two friends to stare at me shocked.
"I'm going to kill that little wrench" Chanyeol muttered. I held his arm to stop him from moving and shook my head, adding to the headache.
"You can't keep protecting him Tae" Baekhyun sighed softly.
"Please" I whimpered, hissing as Baekhyun touched one of the places on my back I landed on.
"That'll be another big bruise" he muttered.
"Let's get you to bed" Chanyeol sighed. I was suddenly picked up and carried to my room, like he had done so a while back.
I heard some talking from Jungkook's room, but fell asleep as soon as the lights were turned off and before I could make a conversation out of it.
And this was just the first day.
