Percy XXXV
Percy screamed in agony when the knife met his heart, but to his surprise, when he opened his eyes, Kronos was frozen, staring in shock at the knife, it’s tip only touching Percy’s skin.
Percy was utterly shocked that the knife didn’t lead to his death.
“What?” Percy jumped onto his feet and looked around. He winced at the throbbing pain of Riptide in his stomach and pulled it out angrily. He saw blackish liquid splatter onto the ground.
“Did he freeze himself?” he asked himself.
“Hello Percy.” a familiar feminine voice said.
Percy’s head jolted around his surroundings.
“Who’s there?”
The voice laughed.
“You can’t even recognise your own girlfriend?”
Percy’s icy look on his face melted.
“Annabeth?”
“Percy.” Annabeth walked out of the shadows, her long honey-blond hair flowing behind her. She was smiling. “I’m so sorry, Percy.” She walked over to him and embraced him.
For some reason, Percy didn’t react. Something was wrong. He should be happy that Annabeth came. Why did he feel so…
“Percy?” Annabeth asked, tightly clutching his shoulders. “Are you alright? You look so shocked.” Not to Percy’s surprise, Annabeth’s tone wasn’t filled with worry and sadness. It sounded so cold, with not even a small touch of love. Not like before...
“Annabeth,” Percy said softly. “Is it normal?”
“What, Percy?” She removed her hands from Percy’s shoulders.
“I haven’t seen your for two months, right?”
“Yes.”
Percy stared into the darkness.
“Is it true, that people can change?” Percy said, his eyes never looking at Annabeth.
Annabeth gave no reaction.
Percy bit his lip.
“I can’t feel anything at all.”
Annabeth raised an eyebrow.
“Feel what?”
Percy laughed weakly.
“How would you feel if you saw the person that you love after two months?”
Annabeth’s face didn’t show any emotion.
“I’d be overjoyed. Aren’t you?”
“That’s the problem.”
Annabeth tilted her head in confusion.
Percy smiled at Annabeth sadly.
“When I saw you, I don’t have that feeling anymore. Why, Annabeth?”
Annabeth smiled forcefully.
“Maybe it’s because we haven’t seen each other for such a long time.”
Percy shook his head.
“I literally just saw you a while ago. It's just that this is the first official conversation between us after two months. It feels like you’re getting farther and farther away from me, Annabeth… Are you still my Wise Girl?”
Annabeth froze for a second, then it seemed like that she looked highly amused with Percy’s statement.
“You’re so silly.”
Percy frowned.
“What?”
Annabeth laughed.
“I don’t think this is what you should be thinking about now. At this moment...” she pointed at the frozen Kronos. “It’s him.” Percy stared at Annabeth with a sad, longing look, and nodded slowly.
“Yes, of course, Annabeth.”
Silence.
“This is all happening inside my head, right?” Percy broke the silence. Annabeth nodded curtly. “So, why are you here? You aren’t a memory, no?”
Annabeth seemed to smirk at the word ‘memory’.
“I thought only dead people would appear from my memory…” Percy stared at Annabeth. “You… aren’t…”
“Don’t worry.” Annabeth gave a small smile. “I’m not dead. But you are right. When people die, their soul would stay in the underworld forever, but they still live in people’s memories, as their existence disappear from the mortal world.”
Percy frowned at what Annabeth has said.
“What about Luke?” Percy asked quietly. “So he only exists in memories? Does he exist in yours?”
Once again, Annabeth’s face showed no emotion as she ignored Percy’s comment and smoothly continued her lecture.
“I came here to help you.”
Percy decided not to argue.
“How?” He raised an eyebrow.
“It’s your head isn’t it?” Annabeth smiled playfully. “Think what is going to happen first before it happens.”
Percy’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
Annabeth suppressed a laugh.
“It’s sort of like controlling the mist.” she smiled. “Imagine the whole thing that you want to happen in your own head, and it would happen. But only if you focus hard enough.”
Percy blinked.
“So it’s like Hazel? Frank told me she could control the mist to make monsters see what she wants them to see.”
Annabeth nodded. “Exactly.”
“Like, if I imagine myself holding a blue cookie, it would appear in my hand?” Percy wasn’t convinced at what Annabeth has told him.
However, Annabeth nodded.
“Of course. Try it.”
Percy snorted. This was going to be so stupid. He thought. But he shrugged as he focused on imagining a blue cookie on his opened left hand, and to his utter surprise, a blue cookie really appeared on his hand, except it was a bit crushed.
“Seriously?”
Annabeth smiled.
“You need a little practise, I think. But it’ll do.”
Percy grinned, but it faded almost immediately as the thought crossed his mind.
“Hey.” he started in a small voice. “You’re not really Annabeth, aren’t you.”
This question has been bothering him since Annabeth appeared in front of him. No. He was absolutely sure that girl wasn’t Annabeth. Every single time he saw Annabeth, his heart would give a small little leap and he would rush into her arms, considering the fact that he hasn’t seen her for, what, three months? Six months was bad enough. Two? No, thanks. But now… it wasn’t her. that feeling was gone. She wasn’t his wise girl. And there was a weird aura seeping through her skin. Even more powerful that a god. What was it?
Annabeth smiled. And the next thing that happened caused Percy to blink his eyes ten times.
He swore he saw Annabeth’s image flickered into a woman with long brunette hair flowing down her waist, he green dress trailing the floor, which looked weirdly similar to Calypso. But not exactly like Calypso, and back to the girlfriend he has known for so long.
Percy’s eyes widened in fear.
“Who are you?” he gasped. “What are you doing in my head?”
The woman/Annabeth laughed in a non-Annabeth way.
“I’m just a figure of your imagination, Perseus. You must have seen me somewhere.”
She was right. She did look weirdly familiar. Maybe Percy has seen her somewhere in Annabeth’s Greek Mythology stuff…
Hang on a second…
Mnemosyne
Percy could basically hear the words coming out from Annabeth’s lips just only a few months ago.
Mnemosyne, the titan.
The titan of Memory.
The mother of Muses.
“You’re Mnemosyne.” Percy said slowly. “You’re the titan of memory, the mother of the Muses.”
The woman smiled.
“Took you a while.” she examined her or, Annabeth's nails. “That’s why I could freeze my brother like that.” she motioned towards Kronos, who was still frozen with the knife at his hand. “I guess my work is done here.” she grinned at Percy and started to walk away.
“W-Wait!” Percy stopped her. She spun around, obviously surprised. “There’s one more thing.”
“Ask away, demigod.”
“It’s all happening inside my head right?” Percy asked. The titan nodded. “Well…” Percy started. “Does it mean this is all a dream? Or is it real?”
The titan smiled at Percy’s question.
“Of course it’s only a dream, Percy. But why on earth should it not be real?”
Percy somewhat smiled at the answer, and nodded as the titan slipped away into the darkness. Kronos, at the same time, unfroze, and a surprised look immediately dawned over Kronos’s face, as he realised he didn’t kill Percy Jackson.
“Well, then.” Percy grinned his famous trouble-maker smile as he uncapped Riptide, turning it into his loyal, golden sword. “Let’s kick some Kronos butt, shall we?”
AN: OH MY GODS. This was actually the trickiest chapter I have ever written in my life. Seriously. I had to do research on Mnemosyne and think what is the most logical way to let Percy understand how to *cough* defeat Kronos *cough*... and to let Annabeth sort of appear as Mnemosyne's idea to stimulate Percy's brain to let him understand how to focus blah blah blah. Well, anyways, I DID IT ! :D Yayyyyyyyyy. :* Thank you all for reading this, and it isn't ending so soon, (well there is a freaking sequel called... *cough cough*) so please stay tuned for updates! Mwah! :* Love you all :D
