Leo XXIV
“Excuse me?” Chiron asked.
“We just found a bullet in Travis’s heart.” Malcolm repeated. “It’s a kind of bullet we have never seen before. Never at camp, at least.”
“And you just tell us now?” Leo raised an eyebrow. Malcolm bit his lip.
“We just found out.” he said in a small voice.
Leo looked at Katie’s lifeless body.
“Something tells me Hazel knows about this.”
“Hazel’s in a trauma. You should wait.”
“Oh gods, we’re back.” A panting Annabeth bursted in the entrance. Thalia and Nico closely followed behind.
“Whoa! Who’s this?” Thalia almost tripped over the corpse.
Annabeth turned around. And screamed.
“Katie! Katie!" She ran next to Katie's body. "Holy Athena, who did this to her?” Annabeth knelt down next to Katie’s body. “WHO DID THIS?”
“Annie…”
“WHO?” Annabeth screamed. “How could he do this to her?”
“Well, according to the knife on her hand, she killed herself.” Chiron explained.
Annabeth stared at Chiron for a moment. Then she stood up.
“I’m sorry, I need some privacy.” she started to walk to the Poseidon cabin. She turned around.
“And Chiron, Katie would never kill herself.”
She strode into the Poseidon cabin and slammed the door.
“She is my role model.” Thalia whistled. She imitated Annabeth and strode into the Zeus cabin and slammed the door.
Nico blinked.
“Bye.” And he shadow travelled away.
“Why is she so delicate about the Katie girl?” Chiron was deep in thought.
“Hey, Leo!” Connor ran out from the infirmary. “Hazel is asking for you.”
~
“Hazel?” Leo stepped into the infirmary. Hazel waved.
“Hey, Leo.” Hazel smiled.
“Feeling better?” he asked. Hazel laughed.
“Never better.”
“Well, what d’ you wanna tell me?” Leo asked. Hazel shrugged.
“I just had a feeling you would figure out that Travis was murdered. And also you would know I knew the truth.”
“Am I right?” Leo urged.
“Actually, you are.” Hazel sighed. “It started when Luke or uh, Kronos Iris-messaged Travis.”
“Then?”
“Luke killed Katie.”
“Wait, why was Katie even there at the first place?” Leo shook his head.
“I don’t really know, but I think it’s something about a dream Katie had. She dreamt Percy called her.”
“Looks like we shouldn’t trust dreams.”
Hazel ignored Leo’s comment.
“What happened next?”
“Actually Luke killed Katie who was right next to Percy, and who was trying to protect her.” Hazel tried to explain to Leo in the most detailed way. “Well, anyways. She died, and Travis sort of had a heart-attack and fell onto the ground. I tried to calm him. He was crying and screaming Katie’s name over and over again. I then went to the washroom and left Travis alone, and I heard some crashing and glass-breaking. Oh, and gunshots. So I immediately went out to look and I saw a hooded guy holding a gun, with smoke pouring out of it. And Travis was on the ground, holding a knife and his chest bleeding heavily. I screamed.” Leo raised an eyebrow. “I was scared, okay? And the demigod took Travis’s knife and stuck it into his chest, trying to fake a suicide. I tried to leave to find help by leaving in the front door and then the demigod did something and I fell onto the floor unconscious.”
“That is a heck of a story.” Leo whistled.
“That marked the end of Travis.” Hazel snapped. “Now go tell the others and I’ll sleep.” Hazel pulled up her covers.
So Leo did what she asked.
Of course, no one believed him.
“You believe a trauma patient?” Will laughed. “I’d advice you not to. Who knows if she’s telling the truth. Maybe she made it all up.”
“There’s a freaking bullet in his heart!” Leo face palmed. “What other evidence do you need?”
“It shows that the gun that held the bullet was still in Travis’s room.” Malcolm defended. “We just searched his cabin and found this.” he held up a gun. “And there are Hazel’s and Travis's fingerprints on it.”
Leo’s eyes widened.
“What?”
Malcolm nodded.
“Hazel killed Travis. According to our investigations.”
Leo shook his head.
“Your investigations are wrong, then! How could Hazel do such a thing? She’s basically harmless! She doesn’t even know how to use a sword like Per-…uh… Jason! And… a bow and arrow like Frank!”
“Do you think your puny friends would believe you?” Clarisse challenged.
“I’m sure my best bud Jason would.”
“Leo, actually, Jason aided us on this investigation.”
“What?”
“Hey, Valdez.” Jason stepped out from the crowd. “Yes, I did. They’re telling the truth.”
Leo gaped at Jason.
“Jason? Are you out of your mind? You know Hazel! She wouldn’t do such a thing?”
“It seems like she really did.” Jason shrugged. “I’m sorry, Leo Valdez. It’s just… it's the truth.”
This is making Leo really suspicious.
Firstly, (he asked Piper about this) Jason sneaked away to go with Thalia, Nico and Annabeth and find the gods. Then, he suddenly came back, and he just walked in. Piper had asked him if Thalia, Annabeth and Nico knew about this, and he replied no. Then (Leo also asked Piper about this) he suddenly became heartbroken that Percy was gone. And after a few minutes, he just walked around smiling in a weird way and calling people by their full names.
And Jason never called Leo by the full name.
Leo walked away, and went to the Aphrodite cabin.
“Hey, uh, can I find Piper?”
“Ugh. The scrawny repair boy. Get out.” an Aphrodite demigod wrinkled her nose.
“Hey, he’s my best friend, let him in!” Piper shouted from her bunk. the demigod rolled her eyes.
“Okay. Fine.”
Leo walked in and absorbed the view. Well, he’s been in here tons of times, but it was still, somewhat, making Leo fall in love with the cabin.
“Leo? Seriously, that love magic of the cabin is still working on you?”
Leo grinned foolishly and sat next to Piper, who was braiding her hair.
“Seen Jason lately?” Leo asked.
At the word of Jason, Piper’s spirits seem to immediately drop. She even stopped braiding her hair.
“Yeah. Why?”
“It’s that… No offence, but something is wrong. He’s not himself.”
Piper fiddled with the feather she was going to put on her hair.
“Actually, I’ve noticed.” Piper sighed. “He’s calling me by the full name. And he never does that. And when I want to have some time alone together, he’s like, trying to avoid me.”
“Superman trying to avoid beauty queen? Well that’s a first.”
“Thanks for trying to lighten the mood, Leo. But, this is serious. There’s this time when I was spending time alone with him, his hand was reaching for his sword.”
Leo blinked.
“He wanted to hurt you?”
“I don’t know.” Piper’s hands were tearing strips of feather to the ground without herself noticing. “I think he’s…”
“Hello, Piper! My sweetie!”
Piper jumped up, dropping the remaining pieces of the feather.
“Aphrodite?”
“Yes! Isn’t that nice, my dear?” Aphrodite smiled broadly.
“What are you doing here?”
“Just wanted to give you a blessing! Your clothes are way too out of date!” Aphrodite clapped her hands and Piper was in a pink dress with high heels.
“Great.” Piper muttered to Leo. “I look like a real life Barbie right now.”
Leo stifled a laugh.
“Also, I would like to say, sadly, one of my favourite children, Drew, is dead.” Aphrodite forged a sigh. “Anyways. Good day to you all, my beauties and handsome!” And she disappeared in a bright light.
“Why does she always have to do this?” Piper rolled her eyes. She had makeup on and her hair was tied into a ballerina kind of style. With a sharp pink ribbon attached to it. Her hands and neck were decorated with shiny jewellery and bracelets.
“Whoa.” Piper almost tripped on the high heels. “I can’t run like this!”
She tried to kick off the high heels.
“I can’t take this thing off either!”
Leo was in stitches.
“Oh my gods… you…” he laughed again.
Piper folded her arms.
“And I was saying, try to talk to Jason.” her eyes were filled with worry again. “Okay?”
“Yes, Beauty Queen.” Leo saluted and got a light smack on his head by Piper.
Leo walked to the Zeus cabin.
“-wrong with you Jason Grace? You never call me 'Grace girl'!”
“Can you please calm down!” Jason’s voice shrieked back.
“You don’t yell at your older sister!” Thalia yelled back at him. “What is with that smile on your face? And, oh my gods, Jason your…”
Thalia screamed.
The door opened and Jason walked out.
“Jason?”
Jason jumped.
“Valdez?”
Leo noticed there’s something wrong.
Jason’s eyes weren’t blue.
He slammed Jason to the wall.
“Who are you?” he asked. “What have you done to Jason?”
“I am Jason Grace!” Jason shouted.
“Your eyes aren’t blue. They’re…” Leo blinked. “black. And where’s your pupil?”
Jason pushed Leo away.
“Get away, Valdez.” he hissed. “Before I kill you too.”
Jason shot Leo a glare before running away.
Leo ran into the Zeus cabin, and found Thalia leaning against the wall, pinned by a knife on her shoulder.
“Thalia!” Leo ran towards Thalia, not knowing what to do. “Uh...Are you okay?”
Thalia groaned.
“If I didn’t dodge I would have died. He was aiming for my heart.”
Leo pulled some ambrosia out from his pocket.
“Thanks.” Thalia ate it and plucked out the knife from her shoulder. It was bleeding heavily, but it seems like that she didn’t care. “He’s not himself. Jason would never kill me.”
“He even tried to kill Piper.” Leo explained.
Thalia grabbed Leo’s hand.
"Come on, we’re gonna find Annabeth and Iris-message Percy”
Maybe they didn’t need to do it.
Annabeth was crying when they entered the Poseidon cabin.
“Annie, what’s wrong?”
“They… they…” she sobbed. “They said it. They killed Katie. It was them… and Percy tried to save her… but he failed.”
“What happened to Percy?”
“I don’t know… he…”
“Well, hello, my dear! Ooh, you’ve got friends, now, haven’t you?” A screen showing Kronos suddenly appeared. “The more the merrier. It’s better with Poseidon too, isn’t it? Well, why not?” Another screen appeared next to Kronos’s screen and it was showing Olympus.
“Remind me how on earth can they get this technology.” Hermes muttered.
“What is is Kronos? What have you done to Percy?’ Poseidon jumped up from his throne. Kronos laughed.
“Well, he had a nice visit from Gaea.” Kronos said simply.
“Gaea? She’s still awake?” Annabeth stood up, fists clenched. Kronos rolled his eyes.
“So much from the Athena girl. She isn’t awake, stupid. But Gaea can’t die. If she dies, the Earth dies with her. She’s stirring now. Again.” Kronos laughed evilly.
“Where’s Percy?” Poseidon demanded. Kronos smirked.
“I told you. Before that Grace girl…” Kronos glared at Thalia. “Interrupted our plans to finish Sally and to break Percy, he was being met by Gaea.”
“Sally…” Poseidon narrowed his eyes. “Sally Jackson?”
Kronos rolled his eyes.
“My children can be so daft sometimes.”
“Poseidon!” A voice suddenly appeared. “You’d better explain this well! What’s happening to Percy?”
And Iris-message popped up next to Poseidon. Poseidon stepped back in shock.
“Aww… even Sally wants to join the fun!” Kronos rubbed his hands together. A screen appeared next to the screen showing Olympus and there was Sally, looking shocked and angry.
“I’m just wanted to show you all my newest invention.” Kronos said in an innocent voice. “It’s water.” He stepped back and showed Percy trapped in a transparent box. He looked really tired and his wounds seemed to be reopening themselves. What? Leo stepped back in fright. Percy was still wearing a shirt. Well, if you call that a shirt. It was torn and broken and basically showing parts of Percy’s skin, and they were bleeding. Leo shivered.
“Please…” Percy buried his head into his arms and curled into a corner of the box. “Stop this…”
Leo just noticed that Percy was soaking wet. His hair was dripping with water and his torn clothes were dripping with a mixture of blood and water.
“Young demigod, I just want to demonstrate this once more. I know you hate doing the same thing fifteen times. I do too.”
“What did you do?” Annabeth yelled. Kronos smirked.
“You’ll see.”
Kronos took out a vile of green liquid and (somehow) it disappeared and Percy was withering on the floor screaming. Then when Kronos clicked his fingers the box was filled with some kind of liquid that looks like water.
Well that’s okay. Percy could breathe in water.
However… Percy was clutching his throat and he seems like he was drowning. And that green vile…
“Is that…?” Leo turned to Thalia, whose eyes were widened and a tear dropped down her face.
“Greek fire.”
Annabeth broke into a sob and ran away from the screen. Leo understood Annabeth. He also couldn’t bear to see the torture. He looked at the screen showing Sally.
“Oh gods, Sally fainted!” Leo gasped.
On her screen showed Sally sprawled on the floor, unconscious.
Thalia sprang into action and left the cabin almost immediately.
“Why…?”
A confused and worried look was written on Poseidon’s face. Zeus only stared at Percy like it was no big deal. Artemis was gripping the sides of her throne, and Hera was pacing about, Ares was trying to advert his gaze, and the other gods wore a pitiful and sad look on their faces. except Athena, who was staring at Percy like he was some sort of experiment.
“My son, you still don’t understand?” Kronos laughed. “It’s a kind of water I invented that even your offspring can’t breathe in it. I guess it kinds of fits your son, doesn’t it?” Percy slammed his fist on the side of the box (or glass). Kronos clicked his fingers and the box disappeared and Percy was on the floor choking and soaked.
“And if you’re asking what happened to the Greek Fire, this water can calm the fire. But it still stays in him.” Kronos smirked, grabbing Percy by his collar.
“What do you want us to do?” Poseidon cried. “Please stop doing this! Please...”
Percy coughed.
“I…I can do this dad.”
Kronos punched Percy in the gut.
“Shut up.”
Percy didn’t move. Kronos threw him onto the ground. He groaned softly.
“I’ll treat you later.” Kronos spat. He turned to the gods. “I have a great plan coming up. And it’s happening soon. So soon. You will all meet your doom.”
The screen showing Sally showed Thalia running towards Sally and placing her onto a nearby chair.
“Sally? You okay?”
“Percy…” Sally muttered. “Percy can’t do this anymore…”
“Sally, he’s really strong. He can…uh…do this.”
“Can you please please please just bring him back?” Sally pleaded. “Please…”
Sally fell asleep.
Thalia stared at the screen. An angry look was written on her face.
“You son of a mother!” she shouted. “How could you do that to Percy? He’s done nothing wrong but protect himself and his friends! Why do you have to do this? I can’t b-“
The screen disappeared.
“Annoying.” Kronos said. “I’ll have to go now, to tend some business with Percy.”
Both screens flickered and disappeared.
“Leo?”
Leo turned his head. Annabeth was curled up on Percy’s bed.
“I’m scared.”
Leo walked towards Annabeth.
“Hey… don’t be. He’s gonna be okay! He’ll be back in no time.”
“Sometimes, I think he would be coming back… too quickly.”
“Wait, what? I thought you want him back!”
“Yes, of course. But…” Annabeth shook her head. “Never mind. It’s just me, I am just too suspicious. Let’s just hope he’s okay.”
Leo nodded.
Then a thought struck him.
I have a great plan coming up. And it’s happening soon. So soon. You will all meet your doom.
What if Annabeth is right?
What if Kronos uses Percy?
AN: My fingers hurt. Gods, this is a freaking long chapter!
