Ch. 8 - Only Her

~ Chapter 7: Only Her  ~

[ Jackie’s POV: ]

“The plan is that you sleepover, right?” Alfredo asked me as he offered me snacks.

“Thanks,” I said, referring to the chocolate bar he handed me before answering his question. “And yeah, Justin said I could stay for two nights, if I wanted to.”

He nodded and I suddenly became quiet. The truth is, I’m actually worried about the fact that I’m even here. Justin burst through that door a few seconds ago and his face just screamed an I want to be alone look. It doesn’t feel right for me to even be here.

What the hell happened while he was gone?

His fists were clenched, he seemed hesitant, sad, lonely, disappointed and worst of all… He seemed angry at something.

“Is Justin okay?” I blurted out, causing Fredo to look at me, confusion invading his features.

“What?” he did a double take. “Why would you ask something like that? Of course he is.”

“You sure?”

Alfredo didn’t say anything at first. He looked down the hallway where Justin had disappeared earlier before meeting my gaze again. “Jackie…” he whispered, sitting down beside me. “What’s wrong? What makes you think there’s something wrong with Justin?”

“I don’t know, he just—… He seemed different. Can’t you go talk to him or something? I mean, I’m a guest and I feel like he doesn’t want anyone here right now. Was this a bad time?” I bit my lip.

He invited you. He asked you to stay two nights. Why are you doubting yourself?” he sighed.

“You’re his friend, Alfredo. You should know if he’s okay or not so.. Please? Just check up on him?” I pleaded, giving him my puppy dog eyes.

“That doesn’t work on me,” he chuckled.

“What doesn’t work on you?” I played dumb, batting my eyelashes.

That. Puppy eyes,” he smirked.

“You sure?” I continued giving him the pleading puppy dog eyes which always seems to work for me. Always. My dad said I had the eyes for it.

“Ugh!” Alfredo scoffed. “Fine! Just stop looking at me like that!”

I giggled, watching him stand up and follow after Justin’s footsteps. In the meantime, I decided to take my mind off of things and began texting Robin—which I promised her I would do when I had arrived at Justin’s.

[ Justin’s POV: ]

I was violently punching my pillow repeatedly when I heard a firm knock on my door. Stopping abruptly, I relaxed my shoulders and breathed out, my heart racing.

I almost forgot Jackie was even here.

I placed my pillow back on the bed so it blended in nicely with my fixed room before walking towards the door and opening it. Seeing it was just Alfredo, I let out a sigh of relief before crossing my arms.

“What?” I spat, annoyed.

“Dude, you can’t be serious right now,” he gave me a stern look, pushing past me into my room before shutting the door.

“What the fuck are you going on about?” I frowned.

“Jackie? That really nice girl you can’t seem to stop talking about? You know—your biggest fan? Yeah, her? She’s out there right now waiting for you to get your ass over there and make her feel like you didn’t invite her all the way over here for no fucking reason!” he raised his voice, pointing out to the door. “What the hell is wrong with you?! You were fine the last time I saw you this morning!”

“It doesn’t matter,” I said monotonously. “My life is one huge pile of bullshit and we all know it.”

“Justin, you’re getting off topic,” he warned. “And you know that’s not true.”

“It’s not, Fredo?” I challenged. “Did you know Alicia sent Cindy to come talk to me?”

His eyes widened, showing complete surprise. “W-What?”

“She said Alicia wanted to talk. She said she wanted to see how I was doing, and that they’d let me know when I can come see her.” I looked down at my shoes.

“Well did you?” he asked quietly. “See her, that is. Did you see her?”

“Yes,” I answered simply. “Tonight.”

“Tonight?!” he asked, clearly shocked. “Is that what you just came back from doing? Seeing Alicia?”

“Yes,” I repeated.

“Justin…” he sighed. “That wasn’t a smart move. Jackie—”

“—Jackie’s bad news,” I interrupted. “She’s evil.”

Alfredo’s face twisted up in shock, as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Justin, you’re not yourself right now. You’re emotionally messed up from seeing Alicia not too long ago. She said something to you, didn’t she? Something you didn’t like.”

“Jackie’s bad news,” I repeated. “She’s here to make me fall for her. She’s here to break my heart. She’s just here so… So that history could repeat itself.”

I felt my heart beating twice its normal speed. Anger flushed through my veins and I couldn’t shake off the image of Alicia in my head. Externally, I was blaming Jackie for all this. But internally, we all know who’s getting inside my head.

“Jackie’s a nice girl, Justin. She’s not going to hurt you, trust me. But you have to go out there and be with her. You’re the one who invited her, you can’t just leave her hanging.”

“I’m digging my heart its own grave, Alfredo,” I snapped. “If I go out there and be her friend, it just wouldn’t be enough. I’ll be stupid enough to start a relationship with her and we all know how that one will end.”

“Jackie’s not Alicia. And she doesn’t have a Cindy in her life either. She’s not out here to get you, I promise,” Alfredo approached me carefully.

“You don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, do you!?” I yelled.

“Yes I do,” he replied calmly. “My head’s on straight, Justin. Yours should be too.”

“What? You’re calling me insane?” I screamed at him. “Huh? You think I’m crazy?”

“No,” he said. “I understand. You’re emotionally unstable but you need to snap out of it.”

“I’m not fucking unstable,” I retorted. “So shut the fuck up.”

“You might want to lower your voice,” he whispered.

“Why?” I spat.

“Dammit, Justin. Jackie’s waiting for you back in the living room. Whatever Alicia said, forget all of it for a while. Deal with your emotions later or you’ll really screw any chances with Jackie. I know you like her, bro.”

I told you. She’s bad news,” I yelled at him before stomping past him, fighting with the doorknob to get it open and stopping right in my tracks, my heart dropping when I saw Jackie standing right in front of me, her eyes watered with tears.

She had heard the whole thing.

“J-Jackie…” I whispered, my brain shutting down everything in my life and only thinking of her. Only her.

“No, I get it,” she whimpered. “You’re the famous Justin Bieber and all. You can get any girl you want and make her feel like you care for just a while before moving on to the next ‘lucky’ girl,” she sniffed. “But if you didn’t really want anything to do with me, Justin… Why… W-Why…Why would you play this game as if you actually care? If I’m such bad news, why did you keep me around? Everyone deals with break ups and exes but your way of dealing with it is beyond what I ever expected.”

There were tears rushing down her face as she spoke, and it felt as if someone was stabbing my heart with a knife repeatedly within every word that left her mouth.

“I’m sorry…” I spoke softly, my head bowed in shame.

“You never really cared, did you?” she choked out, causing me to lock eyes with her.

“That’s not true, Jackie. I’m just… I’m just a coward,” I said sheepishly. “I wasn’t man enough to suck it up and move on. I was hesitant to be around you because I didn’t want to fall in love with you. Then, whenever I was actually with you, I forgot my problems. Whenever I was alone again, I’d continue to ask myself what am I getting myself into? I didn’t want anything to do with love. That thing shattered my heart. But you… There’s something about you and I just can’t stay away.”

Stop lying!” she yelled. “It’s over! You can just walk away now!”

“But I’m not lying!” I countered. “I always cared, I swear. It’s just… According to Fredo I’m emotionally unstable… There’s a lot going on in my life because, well… Because I’m Justin Bieber.”

Jackie sighed, wiping her tears with the back of her hand.

“You shouldn’t have invited me here, you know that?” she whispered, turning so that her back was to me before walking off, heading right towards the exit.

I held my breath, watching her walk away like I was nothing. Exactly the same thing Alicia did to me. I fought back my own tears as I ran after her, catching up and grabbing her wrist, stopping her from leaving.

“You can’t walk away too,” I breathed. “You can’t leave me like she did.”

Not wasting another minute, I pulled her so that my chest was touching hers and I then pressed my lips to hers, the hairs on my arms rising as I felt indescribable goosebumps. It felt as if all my life I was looking for something—something I didn’t know where or how to find—something I found easily within the taste of her lips. I could even taste her strawberry lipgloss mixed with a pinch of chocolate, which I could tell she had eaten not too long ago.

I secured my arms around her waist, deepening the kiss and biting down hungrily on her bottom lip. I heard her let out the most gentle, softest, and most delicate moan in the world and my heart burst with a feeling beyond words. Gasping to regain my breath, I pulled away and felt her breathing down my neck, shocked at the fact that we kissed.
